Elrys is the only child of Otik and Praetir. His father, a net weaver, was killed when Elrys was 6 in a freak fishing accident. Praetir was forced to take employment as a barmaid which eventually drove her into prostitution. Needless to say, Elrys found himself with many unsupervisized afternoons in which he roamed the shoreline - usually alone - gazing out over the vast waters. He strongly disapproved of his mothers lifestyle (over which he took much ridicule) and was therefore almost relieve when she fell victim to the plague when he was 13. That very day Elrys gathered his meager belongings and hopped aboard the first vessel leaving town - ready to start his new life.
