| Eliriana Lei'lyn - Depth Required? Depth Aquired. To be reasonably perceptive, not take things for granted, and actually think things out for oneself, instead of just copying others opinions and worldviews, is something many wants to be able to do. One would think this was a good thing, too – and it is, as long as the society one lives in is not too rigid to be able to handle intelligent questions. This “thou shalt not question” trait is common to both fanatics and fundamentalists. Sadly, it is also a common trait in extremely traditionalist societies.
Even when society is too strict (or fragile and afraid) to be able to handle such questions, a certain way with words and a quick wit can save the individual who thinks for herself. But only for a while. In the end, it often becomes a choice between brainwashing oneself, being crushed, or escaping that society.

Full Name: Eliriana Lei’lyn
Age: 127
Class(es): Ranger/Bard/Swashbuckler 4/6/10 if possible*, 5/5/10 if I have to
Race: Elf
Subrace: Sun Elf
Alignment: CG (As opposed to most of Sun Elf society, which is LN)
Deity: Primary Folian S’pae, but often sending a thought to Ilsare, too.
Short Bio:
Eliriana was born into the Lei’lyn merchant family. A family perhaps a bit traditionalist even for Sun Elves. Given a traditional upbringing, with education in the elven culture and the arts. Painting, music, etiquette – The temples of Ilsare are quite educational when they want to be. Through that church came some contact with the followers of Folian S’pae – wich resulted in some quite interesting fencing lessons. Of course, the followers of Ilsare were Quite positive about the more romantic aspects of fencing – leading to a surprisingly in-depth store of tales and lore about adventuring in general and swashbucklers in particular. A happy and carefree time, with more than a few daydreams about how things could be.
The decades turned, and it was decided that scribe, and later bookholder was the appropriate profession and life path for the young lady. Caligraphy proved to be a favoured subject, perhaps only followed by poetry. The “art” of keeping books, on the other hand, proved.... Too easy. And very soon, extremely uninteresting. However, because this had been decided to be “the” life path, any protests or arguments to the contrary were more or less politely ignored, as the young lady obviously did not know what was best for her. A Very fine calligraphy – even by elven standards - was often used against her at the end. And soured her against that art. Artistic skill does not equal scribe – unless one wants to interpret it that way.
One late evening, after a formal extended family dinner, she simply snapped, went to the stables, and rode away into the night.
Since then, she has made her living (barely) as a hunter and (occasionally) storyteller, with no contact with the family. Of course, it has only been a year or two.
Lifepath choices:
Why ranger? A small fragment of the fae blossoms once again, and connects to nature, in a way that elven nature (and Folian S’pae) agrees with. Not to mention that rabbits one has hunted oneself tastes Quite good, if prepared with the right herbs.
Why bard? Artistic flair, wits and diplomacy.
Why Swashbuckler?
Eliriana Lei’lyn sees most things worth doing as arts. So. Why fight with a sword when you can fence with a rapier? Why drag along a (too) heavy armor when one can learn to dance around ones foes instead? Why solve all problems the stupid way, when one can use ones wits to make a tale worth telling happen?
Swashbuckling includes some skills, true. But in many ways, it is a mindset. A playfull mindset, when many would gibber in fear. To insist on doing things either with style, or not at all. This mindset Eliriana Lei’lyn has in spades. The skill? Only in part at the start of the tale.
Details:
- Tends to present herself with only first name (since she is not sure if she is still a member of the Lei’lyn family)
- Colored hair: red
Game technical details:
* If it ends up 4/6/10 or 6/4/10 depending on how Eliriana fits into society in Layonara – Primarily as scout (ranger), or primarily as bard... If it ends up as 4/6/10, that would most probably also mean a shift towards Ilsare. |
