RE: Merrick Petterson HE now has some point of veiws and attitudes to his life. Is this what you talking about also added a couple of this in his bio excerpts. Full Name: Merrick Peterson Age: 19 Class: Fighter Race: Human Subrace: Tiefling Alignment: Chaotic Good Deity: Depends on the situation at hand Bio/Description: Merrick was born in the town of Algorin on the continent of Dregar. His mother was a local apothecary owner & widow, named Annemarie Peterson. Who had lost here husband a trapper & guide 10yrs prior to her Merrick’s birth. Merrick looked the same as everyone else in town, except for two slight differences: Eyes as red as the deepest blood red ruby, and a slight grayness to his skin. This little fact always got him teased by the other children of the town. He was often shunned as a child by some of the adults as well. When he told his mother, she would reply that,:” those adults were just envious of him. They knew he was destined to do great things. And they are not.” That would ease his concerns for a little while. When Merrick turned 10, he started asking his mother about his father. For 2yrs she would only blush & Say he was a very handsome man and then change the subject. Finally after persistent asking she told him the story of his father. {Excerpts from Merrick’s personal journal}”15 yrs ago a cloaked figure came wandering into our town. Looking for supplies, when he entered the apothecary he removed his hood. He was good looking & he had the most stunning black eyes I had ever seen. I knew that he was quite human, but I didn’t care. His gold was good.” *she blushes for a moment and then continues*”He smiled at me & asked to see my herbs and roots. We chatted for some time, he said his name was Talinon, and that he was a blade for hire. “I said I knew not of anybody looking for that service at the moment.” He stayed around town for a few months here & there. He would do occasional guard duty on jeweler’s shipments to other towns. He would always come to see me when he returned. I grew quite smitten with him. He was always charming as well as courteous around me. Others in town did not trust him. Despite their reactions we fell in love and had 2 wonderful years together. Then he heard of a great need for his service & blade against Blood’s armies to the South. He promised to return as soon as he was done. 3 months after he left I discovered I was pregnant with you. I was so overjoyed by the news.” She goes on to talk about how she still hasn’t, give up hope of his return. After her tale I start having other concerns, like what did she mean by not quite human. What could I be half of? She never told me what she thought he was, just that she was happy with him. 3yrs have passed since she told me of my father. She has come to the dreaded conclusion that Talinon must have perished when he went south. She has since met a Banker named Petroff Greilic and has settled down with him. He treats her well which is most important. Petroff and I have an ok relationship, it is not too strained & he’s never been mean or cruel to me. They have a Daughter & I have a half-sister named Emerson Rose. I would often sneak off to watch the locale militia practice with their weapons; I became very fascinated by their training. I would secretly practice what I saw with a wooden practice weapon I acquired. I became quite good or so I thought. I was discovered by one of the militia, he startled me, then asked “who was training me?” “I said no one. I was just coping what I seen on their training grounds.” He was shocked to hear that, he said my mechanics & technique seemed just as good as some of his fellow militia. I thanked him for the compliment. He asked me my name. I replied “Merrick Peterson sir.” *He scratches his head in thought* “AH!!! You are Annemarie’s boy. I’ve been in her shop now and again.”* A stern look then appears on his face* He said for me to follow him. I figured I was in very deep trouble. We went to the training grounds, where he turns & looks at me, He sees the concerned look on my face & his features soften & he smiles. “Don’t worry little man. I’m not going to punish you. I’m going to test your skills.” By then a large crowd has gathered around us. He bends down by the weapons racks & retrieved another wooden sword. Comments start being made. “Hey Serge! What’s this kid’s day?” “Can’t handle sparring with the men? So you have to fight little boys.” The Sergeant ignored their jibes. “ Ok Merrick let’s see what you can do.” The sparring went on for about a half hour, starting off slow but built up in intensity, Till Merrick faltered on a parry. The man halted the exercise. All around us was silent. The man turned out to be Devon McCreedy. He was the militia’s drill sergeant. Sergeant McCreedy had a look of being a little impressed. “Merrick, I think with the right training you could be a great swordsman if not a weapons master.” A few chuckles were heard after that last statement. “ Hey Devon, I admit the kids pretty good, but why fill his head with fantasies?” “Are you serious Sir?” I asked. ”Yes I’m very serious Merrick” “where would I get this training Sir?.” I’ll train you.” *Merrick smiles* “Don’t smile just yet you’ll be paying me for the training. I’ll have some tasks and chores to do as payment.” “I’ll do it!” I told him. Good be back tomorrow at 2pm. I agreed & was off to tell my mother…. Mother got a very strange look in her eye when I told her the news. A single tear rolled down here cheek. “If that is what you want?” I said “yes it is mother.” “I always knew you would follow in your fathers foot steps”…”And so my training has begun…..” Even after he began his training Merrick was still not accepted by many in Algorin. At first that had bothered him having most people ignore him as a child into young adulthood, but his mother’s words would come to mind & his attitude changed from slight despair & loneliness to one of almost pity and sympathy for these people. He never became overly arrogant mostly due to his training the growing respect he had for Sergeant McCreedy & some of the other militia members. His only real regrets were no girl in town ever had an eye for him & never having any friends few would even say hello. This left plenty of time for helping at his mother’s apothecary & his training. Merrick continued his training for 4yrs, excelling with his skills till none could best him & Sergeant McCreedy said he could teach him no more. McCreedy would have loved to have his blade in the militia, but new that that wasn’t what Merrick would want or do. He saw the great potential in Merrick’s skills. So with a heavy heart he didn’t ask him. The sergeant said he should seek out somebody else to complete training. Merrick was a little disappointed that he couldn’t keep training with the militia. He enjoyed their company for the most part. He went home packed a few of his belongings said goodbye to his family. Said he would return when his training was complete. As he leaves the town gates he turns looking back, and he wonders when he will see his family again & how they will fair without him. He adjusts his pack & heads down the road. Now a new adventure awaits him |
