Default Re: CDQ's, GCDQ's, ECDQ's

CDQ Request Rule Changes

Too many people are seeing a CDQ as a way to get a private quest for themselves or their friends. That is not the reason for CDQs, and never has been the reason for them. CDQs are to allow players the extra resources (GM time/guidance/effort) to effect large-scale character changes and development (not minor things). I still hear people comment on how they can't make scheduled quests so they are going to request a CDQ. This can not happen any more, the GM’s bare time is getting eaten away by nonsense CDQ’s, or CDQ’s that just do not need to be run. Please make sure you request a CDQ only if it is needed for a character, not because you want a quest to be run for you or your friends.

Look at the calendar these days, there are a great number of quests and the team is quite large. Unfortunately a lot of the quests are CDQs. If half of the CDQs on the board were not there, then more normal quests could be run and people might be able to fit in more of the scheduled quests—this is one of those catch 22 things that we keep talking about. So again, please make sure you request a CDQ only if it is needed for a character, not because you want a quest to be run for you or your friends.

To remind everybody of the rules for a CDQ and this is going to be strictly enforced—as well we are adding a few changes to the process because of past abuse and team burn out.
1. The player can only have 1 CDQ per 2 month period.
2. The character must be at least level 10 to have a CDQ.
a. The only exception is a character looking to move into a PrC before level 10.
3. The CDQ must have a valid purpose, and this will be enforced by the GM’s running the quest. Don’t request a CDQ just because you want your own personal quest or a quest for your friends.
a. A CDQ to move into a prestige class is valid.
b. A CDQ needing DM intervention to help a character change realize itself is valid.

We need the help from the community on this front. If this system continues to be abused we are going to be forced to drop this system entirely, and that would be a real shame.

So, before requesting a CDQ (or GCDQ), step back and think about things.
1. Is there a real and valid point to the outcome of the quest (good or bad)?
2. Is it needed now?
3. Does it need to have GM involvement at all?
4. Is it such a small CDQ request that in actuality it will just be wasting the time of a GM running the CDQ?

CDQ's can not last more than a total of 6 hours or two game sessions, whichever comes first. On top of that a CDQ must be completed within three RL weeks once the first session has been run.

One last, very important note, all future CDQ’s will not be rewarding any XP to those that participate at the end of the quest. A CDQ is to advance a character in some purpose and that should be the reward. I really hope this keeps CDQ’s what they should be all about—character development—not focused quests “just because”.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
