<font face="Times New Roman" size="3" /> Quill sits down in his office within the Freelancer Tavern shifting through papers and back order receipts with a lone candle casting light over the room as the shadows dance across the floor and on to the walls. Old trinkets are scattered amongst the papers and lying on the bookshelves surrounding the walls with what appears to be his home away from home. As he tries to make order out of the chaos that he has neglected for so long, he comes across some papers that Ahndar seemed to have laid on the desk before he set out on his holiday. They were orders that had already been filled back when the Freelancers were working out of Seteeces and Pathfinders house. Quills smiles a little as he thinks about how much the guild has grown within the past years. How five people set out with a goal to help bring fine wares to people at one place rather then hunting down crafters for days on end just to get a descent sword or armor. “But, those days are gone now. Our dreams have come our reality, or have they?” he says to an empty room as he takes the old orders and slides them into a trashcan. A draft comes in through the opened door and increases the dance of the light and shadow around the room. Quill glances around through the opened door and to the tavern. He stays still for a moment listening, thinking someone may have entered. Time passes and he is content that no one has entered so he begins to sort through more papers. With a smirk “ I do miss the adventure of us going out for months on end with not a care in all the lands. Where the past truly escaped me and I was born anew with a new family.” He grins a bit “Five brothers looking out for each when one of them got carried away or bit off more then they could chew.” He looks around the room and his gaze stops at a set of old rusted iron armor that seemed to have more dents the smooth patches and he smirks. “Some more then others.” Now the Freelancers have more then 15 members, most have put their careers on hold to enjoy life’s blessings, but they will always remain Freelancers. As our skills developed so did the business flourish. We finally decided that time working out of Seteeces and Pathfinders home were soon coming to an end. Our needs for resources have become too great to contain in the small house. The guild began saving money from what was earned as a profit of what we sold. To pay for a construction of a guildhall and with a little persuading from me, they also began work on a shop as well as a tavern in Port Harbor. Quill finishes sorting the desk and moves on the bookshelves where trinkets of his past adventures now lay. He slowly begins to go though the items, remembering where most were obtained. The corner of his eye catches a shimmer from a lone gem resting on the third row of the bookshelf. He smiles as he looks upon it. “I hope you made it out my friend.” He says as he picks up the gem reflecting back on when he helped a fellow cleric of Beryl who had gone missing while mining garnet in a cave near the Ireland Mountains. He remembers being summoned to help find the deep gnome and to bring him back if found. With the help of Bruenor Wildbeard, Quill was able to find the gnome and bring him back safely to the Stone where the he helped in the ceremony to promote the gnome into the rank of Garnet. Quill sets the garnet back on the bookshelf. “I am sure he was back within the underdark before Stone was attacked.” With the thought of the deep gnome he help bring back, thoughts of Stone and of its destruction. He turns from the garnet and then focuses on a small bag of dirt. His eyes are filled with sadness as the light from the candle begins to wane. He whispers softly to the small bag, the only thing from Stone that he brought back from the battle. “ I am sorry I failed you, but I work to correct what I couldn’t do. What he did will not be forgiven.” He closes his eyes tightly, while his hands clinch.“ I will not stop until I have taken back what he took from you. That is my vow to you Mother. He thinks back while the tavern was being built and how his world was turned upside down by Milara’s attack of Stone and how it was destroyed. Quill’s face filled with anger and sadness, the scars of his face appearing deeper in the failing light of the office. For what had happened at Stone and that he wasn’t there to stop it. Even if Beryl has forgiven him, He still has yet to forgive himself. He wasn’t there when Her Perfection needed him. He sighs as he opens his eyes and reaches slowly touching the dirt within the bag and rubbing it in-between his finger. “ Can some things never be truly forgiven?” He then turns to the rolled up scrolls next to the bag. As he unrolls them he sees the tactics that he and Ael laid out for the retaking of Stone and the temple. He thinks back on the day he found out and knew what needed to be done. With the help of Ael and the Freelancers he began to gather an army to retake the desecrated lands of his rebirth. Many people took up the call and helped gather needed supplies and materials. When enough supplies were gathered and enough people assembled, they began their attempt at retaking the town of Stone. They all fought bravely and managed to hold the town for some hours. During this time they heard calling from within the temple. 20 deep gnomes were trapped inside the crumbled temple of Beryl. The adventures began to excavate the opening with all haste because loud thundering sound could be heard coming from the south. We all their combined effort they were able to free the deep gnomes and lead them to safety. They knew that they could not hold the city for call had gone out and the full force of Milara’s army was coming to reclaim what they had taken. With a last look around Stone Quill then knew that the town was no longer there to save. He called for the retreat of those the remained and headed back toward Point Harbor. He rolls back up the scroll and sets it back on the shelf. “I will never be able to think you all for your help. You all sacrificed so much to help me. May Her Perfection bless you in all of your deeds.” Still a great deed was accomplished, 20 deep gnomes were saved and most were clergy of Her Perfection. It brought comfort to Quill knowing that he was at least able to save some lives. The gnomes stayed with him in the newly finished guildhall for a couple of weeks so they could regain their strength. Then when they were ready the deep gnomes left each offering their blessing up on Quill and the Freelancers. In time things settle down for the Freelancers but not for Quill. He still felt great anger toward Milara and his army for what they did to Stone and for what they had done to Rilara. He knew as long as Milara was around that the lands and the people of Rilara could never truly be free. He heard of a party setting out to destroy Blood Pools that gave power to Bloodstone. What he found along the way was much more then he bargained for. They traveled for many days on the continent of Xantril. Finally reaching a cave that would lead them to their goal. It was nothing like Quill had ever seen hordes of undead with powerful magic. The dungeon reeked of death and decay. They battled through the army of undead guards until they reached a place that appeared to be a ritual room with what appeared to be a stone hand holding a gem. After much discussion they took the gem, its purpose still unknown, and set off to the Blood Pool. The Pool was heavily guarded by Eon’s golems as well by Drezneb’s undead. Which brings us to where we are now. Quill looks for a way to end Milara’s control and has started a mission that will hopefully lead to the downfall of Milara and true peace to the lands of Rilara. With the help of Freelancers and others he is to investigate Karthy and to see if major supplies are coming into the city to support the growing army of Milara. If it is true that Karthy is helping supply the army with resources then he will begin gathering a large army with the help of other races and continents to cut off the supply route and hopefully weaken the army so that when the time is right defeat the army and Milara once and for all. With a last look around the office, Quill smiles knowing that there are many great adventures to come and more crafting to honor his deity’s name. He walks to do the desk and lifts the candle to close to his face and blows out the light. What you would like to see happen for his epic? I like to see Quill do something surrounding Beryl and hopefully become diamond or another high-ranking cleric in the guild. Maybe perhaps find the why Milara attacked Stone and what he took from the temple (if anything) and return it to the Church. |
