The official line is that we really don't know how much time will pass between the end of Layo on NWN1 and the beginning of Layo in NWN2. That there will be a jump forward once we do go to NWN2 is a given. Whether that jump is 5 minutes or 5 years or 500 years or 5000 years has yet to be determined.
In other words, there's no answer that we can give you, because it hasn't been decided. Your new character can potentially be an acestor of your current one, but it's really quite impossible to say whether he/she can be a child of your current character.
