If you've got a savegame just before this point, could you double confirm this for me? Do the same thing you did the first time (rob option) and see if it happens again to make sure it isn't a fluke or something weird like an AoE touching another npc...
Additionally, did Jacobson go hostile toward you before you physically attacked him (i.e. damaged him an any way?)
