Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Registration is fast, simple and absolutely free. So please. join our community today!

I'm the father of a four very active children and in my time away from work and the computer I'm often taking them swimming, fishing or working on any number of house projects or chores. Give me Tai Iced Tea and a platter of Sushi at the beginning of a gaming session and things might go smoother but there's no guarantees. I reserve the right to make your character's life very interesting (though hopefully in an enjoyable and enhancing way) and I am a big proponent of holding a character to the consequences of their own decisions.

I am a seasoned veteran of pen and paper as well as computer gaming. The list of pen and paper systems I've played here and there is fairly lengthy and I may pull the entire quest into pen and paper mode occasionally which means that I describe things and ask for rolls but we use our imaginations and ignore game mechanics. In many computer RPGs I've enjoyed going back after I've finished the game and seeing just how evil I can be. I played through the entiredy of Baldur's Gate and the proceeding games, the second time, laying waste to the Temple of Lathandar and its occupants as well as other areas.

On my quests there will sometimes be fighting. Sometimes there may be more than others based on the choices made by the characters. My quests have goals and sometimes optimum paths to success but ultimately the character's are open to make their own choices and conclusion and act on them and there are often other ways to achieve the same or a similar goal. I encourage players and characters to think out of the box, beyond simple game mechanics.

Above all I want everyone to have fun. I limit the numbers on my quests to manageable groups so that everyone has a chance to interact with PCs and make a difference if they so choose.

Rules and Guidelines for my quests:

* I rarely limit the levels of characters on my quests without good reason. If I do list a level limit or range your character is outside of that and you think you have a good reason for needing to attend please contact me via PMs and try to do so as far in advance as you can to give me time to respond and make appropriate preparations.
* No resting without permission or at time I designate. Keep things within reason of RP and the context of things going on during the quest and I'm likely to approve.
* No running unless there's good reason.
* You aren't tied to game mechanics. Skills, environment and spells are not as inflexible as the game mechanics make them seem. If you have an idea let me know. Sometimes experimenting and unexpected results can bring interesting rewards.
* Do not roll dice without accompanying emotes or without justifiable reason. I may ask for rolls from everyone or from individuals from time to time but if you roll without so much as an emote regarding what you are doing that is initiating the roll I will probably ignore it.
* If you are initiating an action for a roll, doing something unusual or taking an important action please repeat or give me a cue on the dm channel. Because we no longer have a dedicated quest server and we can not filter based on players or specific groups it can be hard to pick everything out from what is going on.
*Also, try and be patient. If you are taking an action or something hold until I can get back to you. I may, at times, ask everyone to hold while I catch up. Please hold all RP and questions till I indicate that you may resume.
* If you need to leave early or will be arriving late please contact me or let me know as far ahead of time as you can. If there's an emergency or something that causes you to drop out we'll get together at a later date so that you can receive the XP that was due at that time.
* Be proactive. Ask Questions. Take actions that your character would even if you wouldn't
* HAVE FUN!

NOTE: This is likely to change occasionally.
