Bio:
I'm a Vancouverite, which lands me neatly in PST. Currently, I'm working as a software developer, which means I'm a nerd both at work and at play. I've a B.Sc. from UBC in Computer Science.
I was first exposed to role playing games (D&D) in Grade 6. I flirted with RIFTS for a bit, but then returned to the True Path.

At some point, I was exposed to Baldur's Gate. Then, in quick succession, Baldur's Gate II, ToB, and Neverwinter Nights. There was something involving the Aurora Toolset and a module... and then everything gets a bit blurry... and then I found Layonara through the Vault. And I've been here for a year and a half.
As a GM:
I've GMed PnP before, written extensively, and know the toolset fairly well - so expect to be a part of a story when you're in one of my quests. You'll be a character with a mind of their own - after all, those are the best kind!
That being said, not every story is the Lord of the Rings, or the Battle with Bloodstone (as the case may be). Sometimes ordinary murders need someone to solve them, hardships of ordinary people need resolution, or ... a wizard needs something fetched for them. This doesn't make it any less of a story - and who knows where even the simplest task can lead? Remember - "every journey begins with the first step."
Also, I like riddles and puzzles - but I'll spend time to make sure they're memorable, and capable of being unequivocally solved, so no worries about riddles with two answers, both of them wrong.
Speaking mechanically...
You will be rolling skill checks on my quests - and I do try to keep things interesting. I don't tend to allow much leeway to let people have their "best" rolls - a high INT and its associated skill points can be very useful - and jewelry is fine, if you can slip it on in time.
Likewise, playing your alignment and your dogma will be rewarded. The converse will not be punished out of hand, (save in exceptional cases, of course), but do bear in mind that
how you do something can have as much impact as
what you do.
I'll flesh this out further later, but for now - happy playing!
Quest Rules- Before the Quest
- If you're above the level limit for one of my quests, no amount of wheedling will get you in - sorry. However, if you contact me in advance, I might be able to find a place for you to RP at the beginning of the quest (strictly bring-your-own-exit-excuse.)
- If you're below the level limit for one of my quests, it is strictly come-at-your-own-risk. I balance my encounters for the level range as it is listed, and if you die/strand to one of my encounters when you're below my level range, my sympathy will be very limited. (Or even nonexistent.
) - If the calendar entry states that "Sign-ups are given preference", then those signing up will be given first shot at slots in a limited-size party. This will operate as follows:
- If there are more people attending, who have signed up, than there are slots, those who signed up will roll for the available slots. Anyone who hasn't signed up is out of luck unless...
- ...one or more of those who have signed up are outside the level range (which is to say, lower). The level range is there for a reason - people within it will be given preference, and this supersedes having signed up.
- If all those signed up and attending have slots, the remaining slots can be rolled for by those attending who didn't sign up.
- The sign-up list for a quest will be frozen as of two hours before the quest that same day, unless the calendar entry dictates otherwise.
- During the Quest
- Unless I state otherwise, assume that looting ist verboten. Occasionally, looting may be just fine, but it defaults to no.
- If you've got a question, or if your character is going to do something out of the ordinary, please communicate it to me via the GM channel. It's easier to handle that way than in Tells or in trying to sift it out of party chat.
- If you die, do not respawn. If you respawn, you are treated as effectively out of the quest. (Exception to this rule: if you die three times in quick succession - which should not happen - and hit the forced respawn. If this is the case, do not recover your grave.)
- I am always open to creative ways of doing things. If you want your PC to do something a bit out of the ordinary, feel free - but let me know via the GM channel before you try it, so that I can handle the mechanics of the situation appropriately.
- After the Quest
- Ask questions! Anything you were left confused about, I will attempt to clarify... unless, of course, you're meant to be confused. Then I will just smile smugly.
- Offer comments/criticism - if something bothered you during the quest, do let me know. It's hard to improve without feedback. Conversely, if there was a moment/story feature/etc. that you particularly liked, let me know! Positive feedback is always pleasant as well.
