*Please note: This post is under construction! I expect that many details--especially those pertaining to my GM style and expectations for my quests that you should be familiar with--will change as I find my feet as a gamemaster. I'll try to remember to update this thread accordingly.
That said, I'm twenty-three, and currently still doing the student thing as I finish off my second university degree. I'm a voracious reader and a student of literature, and my non-Layo study breaks often involve great books. My guilty pleasures (other than Layo and literature) are coffee and tea. My geographical location puts me firmly in the PST timezone but when not restricted by schedules imposed upon me by "The Game Of Real Life" I've been known to take a tour of the world timezones.
Until joining Layonara, I had never roleplayed a day in my life. I've never played PnP, any incarnation of DnD, and Neverwinter Nights was my first RPG. Moreover, I hacked and slashed my way through the original campaign module and its offspring, pillaging, looting, and acting with a deep sense amorality that quite horrified my partner. Thankfully, I saw the light when he introduced me to Layonara, and now I cannot imagine playing
without roleplay.
My vision for my quests (and here we will see how much this changes over time, and once I've truly gotten my feet wet!) is a fun, enjoyable and often challenging experience for all players. "Challenging" does not refer to a CR rating, either! I am a firm believer in variety, and I want to challenge players to think, to solve puzzles, to grapple with moral issues, to explore ... and yes, sometimes to beat the big, bad villain at the end of the day. The one constant you should expect from my quests is roleplay. Come prepared to roleplay your character, and to interact with other characters and engage in the situation that will frame the quest.
Most of all, I recognize that we are here to enjoy ourselves. In order for as many people as possible to enjoy themselves, I am firmly committed to the server rules, Layonara's family friendly policy, and general principles of respect and courtesy. My PM box is always open, and I am always happy to hear concerns or constructive criticism (but be nice!). I hope that you will find my quests engaging, creative, interesting and challenging but it's a learning process and I welcome feedback.
A few guidelines for my quests:
(again, subject to change)
- Please respect level limits. Usually if they are in place, they are there for a very good reason. If your character does not fall within the appropriate level range for a quest but you'd like to attend in some capacity, please PM me for permission. It is helpful if you can give me at least a day's notice, as I may have to adjust the strength of encounters to compensate for any changes, or tweak my plot somehow to allow you to get involved.
- Unless I give permission to do so, please do not loot on my quests.
- If you would like to rest, please ask permission first and do so in an RP-appropriate manner. There are times when it doesn't make sense to rest, such as when you are in a very dangerous area. There are also times when resting will affect your potential success on a quest, such as on a timed quest. I will endeavor to be clear when resting is appropriate, but feel free to ask.
- Use your skills and abilities, and use them creatively, but work with me to do so. If you would like to use a skill or ability or attempt a spell that is not supported by NWN, please let me know what you want to attempt through a tell and we can discuss it.
- Know the difference between roleplaying and rollplaying. Dice are lovely things, but they are not the be-all-and-end-all of roleplaying. Also, if you spam me with dice rolls there is a very good chance the pace of the quest will slow dramatically, as I will have many things to respond to!
- Always, always, always treat other players with courtesy and respect. This applies at all times, and not just during quests. Your character may hate their character, but there is a person behind that screen. Make sure in character tensions do not lead to out of character hard feelings.
- If for any reason you need to leave a quest early, please send me a tell. If you know in advance you will have to leave early or arrive late, please contact me (preferably in advance) so we can arrange something. If an emergency arises or for whatever reason you need to leave a quest, I will make sure your character is given any XP owing and ported to an appropriate area.
- If you have a question, ask! If something is unclear, ask me to clarify it. However, be aware that I will be very busy during a quest, and consider saving certain questions for after the quest is over or in a follow-up PM.
- Come prepared to roleplay and have fun! Because after all, that's what we're here for. Right?
I hope I'll see many of you on my quests as well as in game.
