Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Registration is fast, simple and absolutely free. So please. join our community today!

Default Sea Dog

GM Name: Sea Dog
Forum Name: twidget658
Bioware Name: Rodlin Serim...mostly
Real Name: Mike
Age: 37
Location: Washington (PST)

About me:

I played paper AD&D back in the day when it was okay and before it started getting a bad name. Then the computer age started and I played games like The Bard's Tale, The Magic Candle, Might and Magic and the Ultima series. Layonara is the first and only multiplayer game that I have played. Before that, I didn't really know what RP meant. I have been here for almost four years. Over those four years, my playing style has changed... a lot.

I am currently serving on active duty in the US Navy in the Submarine Force. My forum name, twidget, is actually slang for my rate, an electronics technician. The 658 is the hull number of the first submarine that I served on.

I have a great family, which plays here as well. I'm so proud! *wipes a tear from his eye* My wife, Lynn1020 (Tiffany) and I have been married for 18 years and going strong. My two boys that play here will remain anonymous .

My plans as a GM:

Watch that next corner; you never know what will be there. I love surprises. My impromptus will be random and I do them A LOT. I prefer them over calendar quests because it is hard for me to justify why all of a sudden a herd of people show up in one area and wait around for 'something' to happen. I rather the world be 'alive' and ever changing. I never know exactly what will happen, I play as I go, mostly. Therefore, YOU will drive the interaction.

I normally do not do CDQ's. Trust me, this is definitely for the sake of the community .

I am an Aries and my attention span is short most of the time. I do not expect to have long quests; two or three hours at a maximum. If it exceeds that, then there will be a continuation.

Quest Considerations:
  • Be flexible and open minded. Use what you see and what is available to you even if it is part of the layout. If it makes sense, then I will try to incorporate it. If I don't want you to use it, then you will fail using it, it will break, etc., but you are more than welcome to give it a try.
  • Party roles and your character. Know what your character can do and the skills that he/she possess. Know your character's place in the party.
  • Looting. If I was on a quest and had to accomplish a mission, would I be stopping and going through the clothes of the creatures I just killed? Think logically and put yourself in your character's shoes. I'm not saying no, just be aware of the situation.
  • Resting. Basically, my stance on resting is about the same as it is on looting. Just because you can do it doesn't mean that it is right. I will try to prompt the party when it is a good time.
  • Participation. Participation is required by all. My definition of participation does not always mean that it has to be in line with the quest. If your character is easily distracted, then so be it. RP is a must from everyone. I really try to pay attention to everyone. If you don't get a response, send me a tell, I probably missed something.
  • Accountability. You will be held accountable for your actions; even if it is someone in the back mumbling something out loud. This goes back to the participation thing.
  • Party Limits. I will have party limits. This is for my sake because I know my limitations. I prefer smaller parties so I can pay attention to everyone.
If in doubt...ask.

And above all...HAVE FUN!

I think that is about it in a nutshell. I am certain it will be modified as I gain more XP in the GM arena.

See you all in the world of Layonara,
~ twidget

Updated. I have returned from my latest adventure from under the seas. Once I get familiar with the tools and commands again...watch out!
