| Ask A Gamemaster Post here if you need help in the NWN world or if you have a general question for the gamemasters. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | Influencing a Quest To CDQ or not to CDQ, that is the question...
... And here is mine!
Over the past week or two, I've been brewing up a lot of quest based ideas that could be done in Layonara (or anywhere else, really). What I want to know is, how much can I really suggest to the DMs for them to be done? I don't need my character involved, I don't need to even know of it, but maybe I could suggest a ton and at least watch them run about in and maybe learn about it ICly if I'm lucky.
Basically, I'm afraid that any quest suggesting that may remotely involve my character would be counted as a CDQ. In fact, I'm afraid to ask much of anything in Layonara because I don't know what constitutes as RP with DM attention and asking for too much. My main problem is that I never seen to be able to log in when a DM is, and the quests in the calendar are too late or too early for me to make. There's a lot that Llane could do on her own free will that I would like to try, but I'm also afraid I may be crossing the line by asking for any of it...
Am I worrying too much? There's so much underground stuff that I want to get involved in and help influence in its creation, but it seems like there's a lot going on with the DMs already that I'll just be a bother... or trying to DM shop or something.

| Re: Influencing a Quest Quests-ideas-discussion
This would the the forum for such ideas. The final plotevents surrounding the defeat of Bloodstone were for example seperated in three simultaneous events.
An idea that took shape when players discussed ideas in this forum.
EDIT: And if you mean getting involved in the plot? That's not too hard, there's a whole topic about it already in the plot forums. | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Filatus For This Useful Post:

| Re: Influencing a Quest That's the thing... my quests wouldn't have anything to do with the world event at the time since there's a lot of player work going into that already. Trying to aim closer to home like in Mistone for suggestions.
For getting involved in the plot... not gonna happen. I can't find anyone in Hempstead, and I'm only level 5. Storold was like the only person so far even remotely in the plot that I could speak to as well as Steel, and neither say enough for Llane to actually actively seek out to get involved through.

| Re: Influencing a Quest It doesn't have to involve the world plot. You can suggest whatever you want in that forums, and maybe people will think it's a good idea and it gets picked up.
And getting involved as a lvl 5. It's a step by step kind of thing. With gaining trust from someone involved usually being the first.
People aren't too keen on sharing secrets with strangers after all. | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Filatus For This Useful Post:

| Re: Influencing a Quest Ironically, I have the information.
It's actually asking to be involved that's turned out fruitless.

| Re: Influencing a Quest Side question.... can I get some IG info to request a CDQ through? Is that allowed?

| Re: Influencing a Quest If you want to use a CDQ for a fact finding mission, that's always allowed. The current plotquest even allows for a lot of player initiated quests.
The question you have to ask yourself is whether what you want is better suited for a CDQ, an open quest or even just a pm to the plot gm. | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to Filatus For This Useful Post:

| Re: Influencing a Quest Also keep in mind that Layo does have a wonderful skill called gather information...
I've occasionally just talked to DMs on IRC or via PM, and said "My character knows x and y, she's going to try and talk to people like this to find out z."

| Re: Influencing a Quest OK... I'm not entirely sure if this addressed my particular thoughts, but it got some other information that can lead to better avenues for my gameplay.
Thanks.

| Re: Influencing a Quest CDQs require level 10 unless they are for the purpose of taking a PrC before level 10.
My suggestion is to speak with as many other characters who could be involved. There is a lot that can be done just through PC interaction. Perhaps a Group CDQ if you can get enough involved.

| Re: Influencing a Quest @Interia: What are your play times? I'm not going to favor anyone and do quests just for him/her, but I will run quests in this time frame or even on weekends.
Mine are from about 7pm PST to about 1130pm PST. You supply me with quest ideas, the more generic the better, I could probably get a quest in once a week. Single events are better, right around the three hour mark, because I start to lose focus after that time.
PMs would be best so there are no spoilers for anyone joining the quest.

| Re: Influencing a Quest Will PM you, Twidget... and I don't need quests done for just Llane. Completely fine with missing out on things. If I want it to revolve around me, that's what a CDQ is for.
Thank you.

I hope everyone else does to so it doesn't look I am playing favorites or anything. Also, if I know you will be on a quest that you suggested, it will likely not go the way you expect . Heck, for that matter, I don't know what to expect most of the time.
I do like impromptus, though. They are spur of the moment and when an opportunity presents itself. If your horse starts acting up, if the Mage and Florist in Fort Wayfare get into a bicker, hmm...have to keep things 'alive'.

| Re: Influencing a Quest PS. Also, feel free to send me any ideas for a quest you think interesting to be run in the AEST timezone .. that way, there is virtually nil possibility of you attending and the resultant cry of favouritism!
I welcome this from you and anyone else. Otherwise, my next quest was going to be those durn black-clad Corathite necromancers seeking an ancient tome of evil in a crumbling dwarven ruin infested by all manner of ecologically nonsensical beasties .... again.

| Re: Influencing a Quest I don't intend to control a plot... I'll suggest one to you in a simple phrase, both you and Pseudonym, Twidget. You guys can take it from there. The farthest I'll go is probably in descriptions of NPCs that could be involved.

| Re: Influencing a Quest One thing I have noticed is that the world of layo is very flexible if you have a creative mind, my characters for the last two years have been very limited to play time because I work during the day, or worked during the night, usually when plot quests are being run and couldn't attend. I hardly worry about those anymore, but more try to develope my own character in ways that can help those who are.
aka School in Port Hempstead, teaching, scribing scrolls. I may not be right there, but part of me feels as though it has an impact on the world around me because of the small contributions I am able to make.
Something else that really helps is sometimes trying not to be the center of attention like a few I know, who seem to always be, it can backfire on you. DM's sometimes will make it a point to notice the quiet ones and give you a chance to shine as long as you emote, and don't just tag along. Be your character as much as possible.

| Re: Influencing a Quest Anamnesis, thank you. I've been wanting to go down a few social routes with Llane sort of what you described with the school and such, and you addressed one of my unspoken major concerns with my own character regarding quests and DM attention. It's nice to hear that even the most quiet of characters in terms of speech can be treated equally.
