Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

| What are Truthes? I am just now returning to Layo after about 3 years of being away, and while I was reading the FAQ, I came across numerous references to "Truth". To make sure I didn't look like a complete fool, I did a quick search, and I found mostly journal entries describing fines payed in Truthes, and buying items with Truth.
Obviously it's some sort of currency, but I was just wondering a bit more about it. I appologise in advance if I missed a thread somewhere that explained this, but I did a semi-thorough investigation.
Thanks!

| Re: What are Truthes? Good to have you back, Endular.
In essence, just replace the word/phrase "Gold/Gold Piece" with "True."
Contrary to the initial writeup, I believe the plural of "True" should still be "True," as it's short for "True One-Ounce Pieces of Gold", rather than "Trues" or, worse yet, "Truths."
Forty true, abbreviated Tr40. Though abbreviation conventions vary.

| Re: What are Truthes? So the "true" is a ounce of gold *grins a bit*. This means that for every 1000 true you have on your person you should add 62 and a half pounds (about). So remember the next time you are running around trying to deliver that 100K true to someone, that you are carrying over 6200 pounds of gold. Even if you fill a Malar bag with them it will come in at over 1200 pounds.
Go with bank notes

| Re: What are Truthes? Every Bank of Layonara offers the service of writing Letters of Writ, authorizing a transfer of monies from one account to another, sealed with the nigh-impossible-to-counterfeit heavy signets the bank managers wear.
I'm Stephen Zuckerman, and I approve this bit of off-the-cuff fluff.

| Re: What are Truthes? I'm actually a big fan of coins having weight, mostly because it makes sense but also because it makes sentences like, "Adventurers love gems because they're small, light weight, and easily concealed compared with the same value in coins," mean something. And if coins don't have weight, then items made of similar materials shouldn't, either, so walking out of lost dungeons and forgotten temples with huge solid gold statues shouldn't be any effort, even for crippled Brownies. Treasure is treasure and gold is gold, right?

| Re: What are Truthes? Bank notes work great and are the best way to RP the transfer of moneys (mechanically you just hand them the gold). But gold piece weight comes into play at the times Gulnyr is pointing at. You go on a dungeon crawl and come out with 2k to 3k gold or you are bringing actual gold somewhere.

| From the write-up: These other coins were and are accepted through out the land but the "True" remains the standard to this day. Throughout the land to this day merchants and buyers alike can be heard asking how many “Trues” or “Truthes” an item, ale, or trinket costs.
Examples:
“A chicken for a Truth”, calls the woman selling hens.
“The blade be two thousand True”, says the dwarves weapon merchant.
The barkeep looks at the downtrodden man and says , “An Axehead Ale be 30 pieces of Truth ser”.
Therefore, True, Trues and Truthes are all correct.
And the prime reason for the True being called what it is is because of Raklin's nickname (yes they're also an ounce, but if there hadn't been Raklin's nickname, they wouldn't have been called that). | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to EdTheKet For This Useful Post: | |

| Re: What are Truthes? Well, if he's Raklin "The True" Diamoniar, wouldn't they still be "True" in the plural, or at least "Trues,"?

We tried to take that into account by the examples given, the spoken word tends to change the official rules of use, until the rules are changed to match the spoken word.
So, True, Trues and Truthes are all correct (and no, that's not a negotiable point ).
