Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Default character developement for the mental midgets

I was giving this some thought tonight, and wanted some GM feedback, as well as from the rest of the community.

Gork is a half-ogre, and his int is a meager 6. I didn't hit the "Int is my dump stat" button in order to buff him up or anything, and I honestly think I do a pretty good job of playing Gork's low intelligence.

What I am getting at is I would really like to shift Gork's alignment towards the Chaotic Good, instead of Chaotic Neutral, as he has developed a few friendships and such, and having been shown kindness and fairness on a pretty regular basis from these few people (though theres still plenty of hesitant, untrusting and even somewhat hostile encounters) Gork is responding kind of like a dog, treat it nicely and show it attention and it becomes more trusting and affectionate.

My problem lies in the fact that Gork isn't ever likely to read ANYTHING, let alone write anything down... or have a real deep thought for that matter. What manner of journal or record could I keep that would reflect happenings with Gork?

My best idea to date is to have Gorks journal be the notes of a Gnome biologist, who is studying the integration of 'Beast' or 'brute' species into civilized lands and how they adapt to life in civilization. This fellow would be a completely mythical third party observing Gork and describing what he sees.

Would something like that work?

A character development journal is not necessarily a journal by your character (but it can be), but it is always a journal about your character, and by extension, their development.

A previous conversation on a similar topic.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, having a third-person "journal" is perfectly fine. The point is to outline the character's experiences. In matters of alignment, the third-person observations need to be reflective of the character's internal thoughts, which can be tricky, but doable.

You can also do it by typing up his thoughts.
He wouldn't write them down, but it'd be something he thinks about when eating, or sitting at the fire, or whatnot.

"Pete wanted chicken today. Gork no like Pete though, but Gork like chicken, so me clobber him. He no more want chicken then"
*takes another sip of ale*
