Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

Default Roduna Hollowhill

Full Name: Roduna Hollowhill
Age:78
Class(es):Paladin
Racewarf
Alignment: Lawful Good
Deity:Rofirein
Bio/Description:

Walking down a long dusty trail, a short stubby person apporcaches. On first glance, you grumble and think "oh gosh, another money grubbing dwarf" Then, this short person comes a little closer, and something seems, amiss. This dwarf has hair slightly sticking out from under its helm, and it looks like its been on the road for quite awhile. For some reason, this dwarf looks... different. Its smaller frame than usual makes you want to laugh, but at the same time it gives an air to itself... HERSELF! The lack of a beard (you later ask why-she SHAVES of all things, so people can see the truth on her face) is almost the only thing that gives this dwarf away as a her. After staring in amazement at a female dwarf for awhile, you see the gruffness that is equal to her counterparts.

As she draws closer, and the startlement of seeing a female dwarf wears off, you start to wonder why, and after a brief introduction the question comes up as to why a nice dwarven woman would leave the confines of her hill.

"Well child" (you notice that her accent isn't as thick-odd, but you listen) "the world needs one o my skills in deese here parts, so e came when e wers callid in. E be hearin o some catthule missin near these parts, so e be seartchin owt the pwoblem. May need some bashing later... You seen som catthule lately? Herd o bout 20. No? Well, E should go..."

Not having the answers you seek, you stop her again as she starts to pass you on the trail. "Whats that child? No, I dunno bout no axe. Rofirein taught me o da use o da sword. Meets justice better an a axe could. Dunno bout torturin puor souls with hakin. Bash, nahh... Nice sharp steel gud for me. Oh, how did Rofirein teach me? E jus wanna learn bout somethin diffrnt than what me ma was teachin, so E told em all g'nigh and left em. Wandred round a bit, and came pon a temple. Wers Rofirein's will, twas. Would neer found it, cept me wandrin across da sea on a boat *looks sickened* da boat tried to make me puke me guts outta me, iffn ya belive it. Fam'ly came frum Redstone, jus normal dwarves they be. Get gold, like normal dwarves. Jus not E kind o life, ye know. Dey jus wanna sit roun tables, making pretty stuff frum dem gems, crawl through cavz to git them.

"E wood rather DO somethin wit me live, go out and fin me a livin. Forget them men, wannad marri me off, dey did. Canna do dat, would radder serve my Rofirein." And then, she starts to tap her foot impatiently, looking around at the ground for something. You don't know WHAT, since she looks at a rock and mumbles something about 'catthule' tracks and that they are near. "Iffn Rofirein dinna fin me, E probly be out wid da fam'ly minin and makin gold jewels. Got a couple o child, crawlin through silt. Nahh, E likin de open skies a bit mor an my fam'ly ever did. Sit outside on da city walls, watchin da sun come up and dey all wonder why. E watchin de sun nuff, fin out bout where come up in da sky on days it rain. Me fam'ly conna fin sun on a sunny day, right!

"E wanned a go out an fin out bout da world, an travled o bit afore Rofirein foun me outside o his house. Took E in E did, told me bout LAWS and JUSTICE before tellin me to LEAVE to fin out bout more n just E house o worship. Meetin the clearks in deer temphule, E did. Thought it odd a dwarf like meself would want to learn bout a Dragon, but E did, and dey taught me likin dey should. Rofirein burn der toes iffn they don't, ya know. Eh? Dragons ain't bad, well, most o dem aint. Sum are, like that pyrethechion feller. Gotta shut im up afore someone learns HIS form o justice. Twisted, it be.

"ye be a catthule theif, be yea? Stoppin me in me tracks, ye are. Stallin me, I think. Eh? No? Well, Why ya askin so many questions? *she points up* See deem stars? Rofirein gots em-them gold and white ones. Aye, e watches us. See his eye? It be knowin iffn ye be a catthule theive or not. Yea ain't seemin be tha type. I must Be goin, fer da farmer gots ta feed hes fam'ly soon, E be thinkin. E needs it, E does. Good news, ta him. E want gimme a ward, so somethin, but E dunno bout dat! E needin nuttin o de sort."

And as the Dwarf wanders away, looking at the ground, she suddenly dissapears in a flash of light, leaving you wondering what happened... *to the dragon summoning*

//yes, I have read and understand what it will be like playing a paladin of Rofirein. I know I will make mistakes, and I plan to learn from them.
I also know that I'm going to have to add alot to CHA to get a dwarf up fromthe -2 cha. I can live with that, I promise. heres the break-down I'm looking at:
Str: 16
Dex: 8
Con 14
Wis 14
Cha 14
int 8 if ya see any problems (only 2 are under 10-I THINK thats the limit...) pm me, I'll happily change things round. this looks to be interesting. (a female dwarven paladin of Rofirein... must be rarest in the game, huh?)

Hi there
This is a very interesting bio and concept.
Could you please tell us a little more about her characteristics.
Also the following statement bothers me and need to be explained please. "no, I dunno bout talkin TO Rofirein, E got to much to do. Clrks did talkin fer him" Any paladin can cast divine spells which will only be possible by the grace of their deity and therefore I would believe that a paladin will have tohave a very close relationship with his deity.
Thanks

BUT, in the character submissions, it specifically states that you should not have divine intervention, etc. etc. under CHARACTER BIOS!-Please Read
10) A deity appearing to the character or a deity taking active part in the life of the character will not be approved. This also applies to dragons.

and having Rofirein 'interfere' by making her 'discover' his temple was probably pushing that rule a little bit, since he IS a dragon, and he IS a god... Don't want him to take an ACTIVE part, and I don't want him to overpower the story... I CAN change that part, easily, but I also didn't want to break any rules, so I thought that having the god give direction instead of instruction may fit in a bit better. I do not think that many clerks or paladins MEET thier gods until they are higher ranking-not just low-level wanna bees.

and, a description will be added shortly... as in, within 2 minutes of me posting this... or as soon as I can figure out what to say other than a female dwarf... brown hair, nothing fancy... ok, a paragraph has been added a little bit about what her family was like, and a bit on what she looks like. (and how silly she is for a dwarf) Can't think of much more.

You understand me wrong.
I did notsay anything regarding divine intervention and I am not suggestion that Rofirein speak or appear to yourself directly. All I am saying is that the spells that a paladin can cast is due to the grace of his deity.
If you dont talk to your deity, i.e. worship or pray, I dont see why you would receive his grace. I dont say Rofirein will answer you personally but he will aid you without answering.
Faith is exactly that, you ask, speak without answer. But you believe by asking you are getting. I mean how else do you explain something like being able to cast divine power without you asking your diety to give you the power?
And with characteritics I dont necesarily mean brown hair, I mean tell me about her personality. Is he short tempered, quick to be angered, rude, friendly, helpful, patient, etc?

ok, hehe.... by that phrase I put in there, I ment to make sure the rule was followed, although she DOES worship him, and does all the praying, and aided her... see point: she was 'brought' to his temple, and she does talk about him teaching her, and how it was his will for her to find him, things like that. I added that sentence so that it doesn't seem that he MADE her into what she is, but since its 'only' a sentence it is easily removed... I wanted to make sure that it was clear that hes not taking an active role in her life, but a passive 'yes, you are my paladin, my champion' type role...

and I'll add the characteristics here, so that its easier to 'see':
shes long-winded but short tempered: thats why she thought that he was trying to stop her, and got short with 'you', but still didn't get horribly mad about talking while she was being helpful to the farmer (no reward, and she just heard that it was needed-so there ya are, helpful!!!) Kinda strange... I don't know how else to describe her.

Otherwise, she will be determined to finish whatever she started. Wether it be rescuing a cat from the horrors of a cave, or getting flowers down the road. She will be one who upholds LAW and ORDER, but only the law and order the way she sees it. Mostly, whatever Rofirein thinks, she will do. And since Rofirein doesn't directly speak to her, it'll be what SHE thinks HE wants. If she thinks he wants her to kill all of the zombies in a cave, she will go out of her way to kill each and every one... determined is the best word to describe her there. And, if people try to distract her from her goal, she will have a tendancy to talk thier ear off, then go and do what she was doing.

I think another word to describe this character will be steady. She will never fail her comrads, unless they do something unlawful. Once her friend has done something wrong (lets say her very-best friend killed a npc on accident) she will not waver from hating them, and will never speak to them again.
