Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Default New Character Submision. Forest Gnome Rogue

Full Name: Eevan Vogrith Bergo (insert 1524 additional family names before finishing with) Doragon (Commonly known as "Helper")
Age: 80
Class: Rogue
Race: Gnome
Subrace: Forest Gnome
Alignment: Neutral
Deity: None

Bio:

Helper is the youngest of 19 children in a small gnomish family who dwells in the dark forest on the continent of Dregar. It's a small family because his mother died of complications soon after his birth. This tragic event is something his father, Vogrith, has always attributed directly to Helper. All throughout his early life father berated him regarding this matter and held him in disfavor. Not that Helper didn't try to earn the respect and notice of his father. He was an exceptional student and craftsman but it was never, never enough to overcome his father's perceived shortcomings of his abilities. On the anniversary night of his mothers death it all came to a nasty event when father, drunk on mead and sorrow, beat Helper unmercifully. The injuries were substantial and it took many weeks for his sisters to heal his wounds. When he was strong enough to travel he packed up what belongings he had and a little food and left home vowing never to return and to never be beaten again without exacting some kind of retribution.

It's hard for a Forest Gnome in the world. Generally loners, it took years for Helper to make friends on the outside. At least he thought they were friends. He was working as a tinker in a small village when he was approached by a Halfling named Tarsas. Tarsas said that he was with a group that was in need of someone with talents that Helper possessed. In other words his group needed a tinker to repair or manufacture "certain items". The life would be full of adventure and excitement. Feeling under appreciated where he was he joined this band. At least he thought he was joining. Upon entering the groups presence he was beset upon and shackled. He was now a slave and would be kept alive, just as long he did as he was told, fixed what he was brought, and manufactured the items needed for the group to be the best thieves they could be. The leader of this group, a Drow named Avti, was cruel and callous. Showed no mercy, and was quick to deal out punishment without regret. Many times they would remove his shackles and let him go, escorted, to the nearest village or town to buy food, drink, or the items required to complete his tasks. This was to be their undoing and the key to his freedom. One night, after a very bad result during a small raid and a fortunate escape, Avti and the others took out their rage on Helper and beat him to unconsciousness. The plan was formed in his dreams as he laid there close to death. He could be patient and act when it was time. That time came when months later they once again escorted him to the village and when he returned it was with more than the required items. At least the items required by them. While shopping he made an additional purchase essential to him. The powder he acquired to put in the food of the band to make their sleep deeper, more relaxing, more final was not poison. That wasn't his way. His revenge required more physical action. As he feigned sleep the others passed into a slumber from which they would never awake. Once sure they were under the spell of the mysterious powder he took the keys from his keeper and freed himself. It was easy. Much easier than he imagined. He never thought it possible. He liked to work with his hands but never before in this manner. It was rather exciting.

When Avti awoke he felt the pain in his wrists and ankles as he tried to move. He could take the pain. He was a Drow. What is pain to a Drow such as Avti? But he couldn't move, couldn't see. Blindfolded. "Ahhh!! Awake are we?" said a familiar voice. Small hands fumbled with the blindfold and when it was removed he saw the remains of his band piled before him. Throats slit, bled white, lying in a large pool of their congealing blood. Looking up he saw the Gnome move around the pile with his arms outstretched. "Look at what you caused me to do. What all of you caused me to do". said the smiling gnome. Didn't know gnomes could smile. All the ones he had seen before were either reeling in terror or this one held in shackles. None of them ever smiled. He watched as Helper moved slowly in front of him and removed his dagger from his waist scabbard. Then as he spun it between his finger tips said, "Remember when I crafted this for you? I certainly do. I remember everything I have ever made. Ever repaired. You told me that it had to be sharp. Deadly. Final. Remember? Let us see if I was successful in this endeavor." A flash of his wrist. A sharp pain in the throat. What is that sound? By the gods!! It's me. Can't see. Can't.......

"Guess I was at that." said Helper as he removed the blade from the Drows throat and brain. "I'll keep this as a reminder".

Off again. Free of the shackles. Can't, won't go home. No need for the gods. They obviously have forsaken him. He shall do the same. But where to go? Tired. Must sleep. Decide in the morning.

Helper heaves awake drenched with sweat. Hlint? What is this place called Hlint? Why do I even know that name? Must find out. Yes. Must find out.
