Grote's life has been unhappy and dreaded.
He was born to a human mother who died giving birth to him due to his size, how did she end up giving birth to a half giant no one knows.
He was taken by a local military commander who saw potential in his size and strength and knew he would grow to be a strong man.
His adopters weren't kind with him and punished him harshly for any mistake he did (Which was quite often due to the clumsy nature of Grote)
When Grote reached maturity he was forced into military service by his owner and was an excellent frontier soilder, known for his fierce nature and the fact that he is too dumb to know when to flee, many times he was left mortal wounded only to be healed as the battle ended and only enough to walk home.
By the age of 24 however, Grote grew tired of his master, he decided he no longer wants to be his masters toy and thus decided to run away, however, being as big as he is meant it was a problem.
Grote knew not how to plan an escape so he decided to wait for the next battle where he would simply switch sides for a little while enough to cause distraction and flee.
So when the next battle came, Grote, with all his might simply picked up the commander and threw him to the enemey lines.
The commander was slain by the impact of the throw and fear broke lose within the ranks of his army, giving Grote time to escape to a nearby mountain where he spent the following year living off what little cattle he could steal from local villages.

When Grote turned 25 he decided he cannot stay any longer in the mountains due to the villagers growing aware of his pressence, he fled deep into a cave he found that leaded him to the vast Underdark, there he was captured by Drow and forced into slavery due to his size and strength.
Among his time as slave he was to carry a drow weapon machine to the surface in order to raid an elven settlement, followed by a drowish warband he left the underdark to the hills above the settlement and set the warmachine, when battle broke lose Grote went berserk on both sides and attacked both elves and drows, ripping off his collars and chains and smashing everything in his way he then escaped to a forest nearby where he wandered for a couple of months living off the meat of bears and the like...

One night he fell asleep after eating a big dose of fish, he dreamed of his mother
and of his frobbiden human side, he dreamed of a savage giant who he thought of as his father, and he dreamed of a dragon...
