Tari Ilmenmor was born in the Forest of Mists on Dregar. Her father, a temple guardsman at the Folien S'pae temple and her mother working in the Temple of Folien S'pae. 3 siblings all older than Tari. The oldest brother became a Templeguardsman as his father, a long tradition in the family. The next brother in line became a Animal trainer training panthers for the trackers in Forest of Mists. The sister where married to a family in the forest.

Tari had since childhood a wish to become the greatest marksman with the bow in all of Mists forest. Her uncle, mothers brother, is a ranger in the Glade and taught her from very early how to handle a bow with the grace it deserves. She very quickly learned to handle the big bows used by the adults and showed very promising talent. But she also showed to be even more agile and could sneak very close to the animals without detection, both in the forest and in caves. She also had nimble fingers and understood the principles of mechanincs fairly easy. But unlike her youngest brother, she had very poor empathy concerning the beast and animals of the forest.

During her "teens", she won a decisive number of contests held in Forest of Mists and was developing into quite a markswoman. When she came of age to marrige, she asked her father and mother, with support from her uncle to go to Sielwood and learn from the Rangers there instead of getting married. Also the increasing infestation from the Giants and the Bugbears in Forest of Mists made that choice easier as Tari is not yet seasoned to face those mighty forces pressing into the Forest. Her sisters husband had a relation in the Rangers Vale and it was arranged that Tari could be sent to work as an apprentice in the Vale. Upon goodbye with her family, the mother gives her the bow and rapier of her grandfathers and wish that Tari's dream may come through.

Travelling the long journey to Hurm with her uncle accompanying her, she took the boat to Leilon alone. There came a ranger to meet her and escorted her to the Vale. In the Vale the where surprised with her ability with the bow and took her as an apprentice. But showing no skills in the art of ranger and having no intension on becoming a dedicated follower of Aeridin, the rangers thought it might be better for her to go and seek work in Hlint.

On the way to Hlint, she dreams of a dragon speaking to her about the Bloodstone. As she wakes from the dream she find herself in the middle of Hlint.
