| Character Submission Name: Creighton Dallorius
Age: 18
Class: Paladin
Race: Human
Alignment: Lawful Good
Deity: Toran
Biography and Description:
Born to simple farm folk, young Creighton's early years were blessed with hardy, virtuous parents, living a good, peaceful life, following the doctrines of Toran. All that came to an end when his parents (and several neighbors) were slaughtered in the night by creatures that Creighton (hidden by his father in the cellar) only remembers as smelling of death. Found (weeping wistfully over his dutifully buried parents) by a traveling group of mercenaries who had been following the trail of carnage, he was told by the leader that it was a group of undead being manipulated by a powerful necromancer. They were on their way to extinguish this blight upon the land. Young Dallorius, a righteous anger filling his soul, sought to accompany them. The leader of the fighters saw not only pain in the boy's eyes, but also something else; a determination to right a wrong. Although he told the boy he was far too young to travel on this quest, he should do his father proud by finding a temple of Toran and praying for their souls; perhaps this would bring him comfort, and he might also find a purpose and a direction to forge his burning rage into something useful. Creighton did as he was asked, and at the temple did find peace in his prayers. Later, a powerful Paladin in the service of Toran came to the temple and informed the clerics that the party of warriors had all been slain, but the Order of the Undead Slayers had eradicated the nest of undead. Sadly, however, the necromancer had escaped. Hearing this, fear that such evil could escape unpunished merged with the vengeance burning in the boy's soul, and in the Ankh hanging from the neck of the Paladin he saw his future; he would take up arms in the name of Toran, and stand firm to ensure what happened to him would not happen to others!
Creighton has grown into a tall, muscular man, with jet black hair and piercing gray eyes. Although he is kind and generous in his soul, it is often said that while engaged in something he sees as important to the good of all, he can become single-minded in the pursuit of it. He has a particularly nasty hatred of the undead, and followers of Corath in general. Becoming a member of the Order of the Undead Hunters has been his goal, but only if it be the will of Toran; otherwise, he will do his best to serve as an example of goodness, protect those who cannot protect themselves, and try his best to shine Toran's light through his deeds.
I have read and understand the information on Toran, Paladins, the Order of Undead Slayers, and everything else I thought would be pertinent to the character. I will do my very best to RP this character as he is written, adhering to the rules of his deity, his alignment, and his status as a holy knight. I'm a longtime P&P RPG player (longer than I care to think about ), but I'm new to online playing. For this reason, I'll probably make some missteps along the way, but I'm confident that I will not violate the Paladin's code.
Sorry I didn't include all of this in the original post; it was late and I wanted to get it done so it could be seen today
Thanks!

| Re: Character Submission First, thanks to Leanthar for his swift response to my meanderings as to where to post this...
Now, for my odd request...
I believe, though the course of recent RP, that Creighton is ready to surrender his Paladinship.
I say this because (as my CD thread and my discussion recently with Ozymandias AND my recent RP in game), I believe the character has evolved in ways that I didn't anticipate. Having played paladins many times over the last 10 years or so (since Unearthed Arcana made them an official class), I know that being true to their deity and their cause is of paramount importance. In Creighton's case, he has learned the value of friendship, family, and love through his adventures on Layonara. Having lost his only family at an early age, he embraced the rigorous discipline of the Paladin and welcomed it, as it filled the yawning void in his soul left by that horrible night. Now, however, he has been exposed to and begun to embrace the generosity and selflessness of others, and has begun to believe that Toran's light need not only stand for justice; joy also could be a vestige of the grand Light. Also, in this "new" light he believes he has found, he firmly believes that he is falling in love; something that he never believed possible. Given this, I don't think the character would feel the bond to his service to his deity as strongly; or perhaps, no PROBABLY, would see the love that he feels as Toran showing him a new, different, and better destiny.
I do believe that Creighton would continue to be a worshiper of Toran (he was raised on those values), but I believe that his alignment would now gravitate more toward Chaotic Good; I say this under the impression that he would now, with the fresh new belief structure that he has formed, place the value of those he cares about over laws if he believed such laws unjust (whereas before, he would have had total faith in said laws).
All of this said, I believe that the character's motives will in the near future place him in a position of leaving the paladinship; not in disgrace, but in what he believes is Toran guiding him to a different end. I believe this would change his class to that of a fighter, and as I said above, move his alignment to CG with lawful tendancies. I was wondering if it were possible to regress the character back to level 7 (I've only just achieved this; I think I have 1800 or so xp into 7th) and pick him up from there as a fighter. He will still maintain his old belief structure; justice and protection will still be strong motivating factors for him, but the love of his friends and his chosen will become the apex of his life.
I already have a pretty good plan as to how I'm going to RP this out; this isn't a spur of the moment decision. I've put a good deal of thought into this.
If any of this is impossible, that's fine. I'm used to making requests of DM's and having them rejected; most times in the past I have found that the DM was right and I was wrong, anyway.
Regardless, I will continue to be a satisfied member of the Layonara community, and continue to enjoy this world you've brought us. http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums...osts=9&start=1
I'm not sure if I did the link to my CD thread right...but I tried
Thanks for your time, consideration, and imagination!
P.S. Any thoughts, opinions, or criticisms are welcome...I'm always looking to raise my game.

| Re: Character Submission Good job on your dev thread. Since the changes have been happening over the past several weeks, and you posted over those weeks I am going to approve this request. There is no going back though because you are giving it up freely.
Ask a GM in game and they will reduce you to 1 xp and then give you enough xp to get you to level 7 (not at your current xp--only to the beginning of level 7).
Good luck. | | |

| Re: Character Submission Yes it is and I was coming to post something like that right now. I thought about this and remember that we have done this two ways...
1) They can not relevel at all and they just do not use ANY paladin things.
2) We set them to a level 5 paladin and they go from there as another class.
3) We set them to a level 5 paladin and give them all of their other levels as a fighter (-1 level).
You are correct Ice. Creighton.. those are your three choices... please let us know which one you want. | | |

| Re: Character Submission Ahh. I just came from in-game, and figured the GMs were busy.
Serves me right for not checking back here first!
I agree with what both of you say; makes much more sense.
Of the three choices, I will take choice #3.
Thank you again!

| Re: Character Submission Alright. So we will take enough xp away to put you at level 6 (since you are level 7).. and you keep your current build and class (up to level 5) and the last xp will be put in to fighter. | | |

| Re: Character Submission Sounds good.
Will this be automatic when I log in, or do I need to let someone know I'm around?
(will probably be half an hour or so before I can do so...)

| Re: Character Submission --Requirements for Dwarven Ear?
Reading back, I realize that I have only mentioned my character trying to learn Dwarven in the first couple of my postings (got off on a bit of another tangent that has kind of consumed my thinking). My original intent to learn it has come crashing back through the haze as a direct result of that very same tangent.
I HAVE been RPing the learning of the language in-game, as three dwarves will attest to, but because of my delinquincy in keeping up with it in the CD thread, I don't expect I've met any requirements (after all, I realize that if the above-mentioned tangent was dominating my character's thinking, he probably hasn't paid enough attention to his Dwarven lessons to have made any huge progress).
As I said, I have been RPing the learning; what I want to know is what are the parameters for the granting of a Dwarven Ear?
It fits in well with the character's development, but I want to do it right.
Thanks for listening!

| Re: Character Submission RP in game about learning the language, usually takes 2-3 RL months but depends on the character, upbringing and training. Must have the intelligence score to support bonus languages. Keep a character development thread showing that you are studying/learning. After an appropriate amount of time has passed request the ear and supply the dev thread link. | | |

| Re: Character Submission Greetings yet again!
I come humbly to request a Dwarven Ear for Creighton Dallorius.
It has been about three weeks since I asked about it...and although I know you said it usually takes 2-3 RL months, you DID say there were exceptions...
I honestly HAVE been trying to learn the language longer than I have been posting it in the thread...I know, I know...like I mentioned the last time I posted, that's no one's fault but mine However, I have several witnesses to my practice in-game (Axodeth, Exodus, and Xain Stonecutter, and Tyrian Dallorius), and I have been trying to make mention of it frequently in my CD thread, although I admit, I've leaned more heavily upon it in game (I do, however, have a legal pad with the first four pages completely filled with words and phrases and their translations...it's funny when I say something in Dwarven to a dwarf and he doesn't know what I'm saying!)
The thread is here...although reading back over it myself, I don't know if it will be enough to satisfy the requirements, but one thing I learned in the military is that it's easier to get forgiveness than permission... http://layonaraonline.com/forums/for...sts=35&start=1
So anyway, that's my two-bits...I throw myself upon the mercy of the team If you guys don't think it's been long enough yet, I understand, and will continue my efforts...and try to keep my eyes open long enough to throw that extra paragraph in the posting each night...
As always, I leave you with thanks for the time and effort you put in to ensure my late nights at this computer...having a blast!

| Re: Character Submission Oh...I forgot to mention...I live with a dwarf, spend a great deal of adventuring time with dwarves, and have been told by a dwarf (Kurgin Stormbrow) that I must have a dwarven spirit...
*sorry, shameless self-promotion...used to work on my P&P DM....well, in the 7th or 8th grade, anyways!)
