Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

Default Raknur - new character submission

Full Name: Raknur
Age: 17
Class(es): Fighter \ Weapon Master
Race: Half Orc
Subrace: Half Giant
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: none
Domains (if cleric): none
Biography and Description:

Raknur was born among a traveling people...several families moving about to sell their wares. Mostly small time trades of furs and weapons. The life was hard and constantly the group bickered amongst itself on where to go and what prices to charge. The group sold to many of race, religion and lifestyles.

It was by chance the group of peddlers had taken their small group of ox and carts along a dangerous road, when a giant waylaid them. Even those few that could fight were no match for the giant. the large form took a liking to killing their men and left the women folk alive so that they could serve the giant for a time. The three became slaves of sorts and did his bidding or became the target of lashing with a whip.

Not even weeks later, the giant grew tired of the crying and the pleading and began killing the most emotional of the slaves. Two women did escape the giant as he killed the third picking her up with one hand around her throat. The remaing two ran as fast and as hard as they could, grabing some food and drink but nothing more. They manage to escape the giant's pursuit when they fell down a steep embankment into a river. Both Nervea and Trenoan swam for their lives, fighting the current as they sped away down stream.

By the luck of the gods Trenoan made land by grabbing a branch of a tree that had fallen over the river. For Nervea, none can say what happened to her, she was never seen again. Trenoan looked for her time and time again up and down the banks, but she dare not call out for the giant might find her again.

Trenoan managed to forage for food and take shelter here and there. She knew enough to keep clear of the bigger animals of the forest and she never stayed in one place long enough for anyone to find her.

Months later Trenoan realized she was with child and knew that she knew not man. She cried deeply for she knew the giant had caused this in his short time of keeping the women as slaves. Months later, a son was born, though she thought to kill the child for the father's crime. She raised the sharpened stake she and and she looked into his eyes. The sight of him looking back at her made her stop and she knew she had not the heart to kill an innocent baby.

Trenoan named the child Raknur and raised him as her own. He grew quickly ... to quickly and had the stength of an ox by the time he was 8. Trenoan kept the secret from him as long as she could but by the age of 16 Raknur stood one and half times Trenoan's height. The pair made their way to a small village and Trenoan confessed she was the mate of a barbarian of the wilds.. though she did not tell him that giant was one in the same. Raknur accepted this but said nothing in return to his mother.
Trenoan taught Raknur as much as she could about survival in the wilds from the little that she knew. She also tried her best to teach him to read and write from the two books that she had borrowed from folks that she worked for. He would write in the dirt with a stick as his canvas and she would help him for his words during their short meal time periods.

The two lived outside the village and visited often to offer labor in exchange for food. Living close by offered shelter and protection when beasts and such came out of the wilds. Raknur was happy and grew to know a simple life. He worked hard to feed, cloth and provide all that his mother needed. She was beginning to age and she no longer was able to do all the work herself.

One day Trenoan led her son to a farmer, Regutin, one she had bartered with many times over the past months to do work for him so that she and her son could eat. The farmer took a liking to the pair and finally offered that they could live with him now that his wife had died and he had two young children to care for without the aid of a woman. Trenoan agreed to care for the children, a girl, Moirar, and a boy, Hithura, if the farmer agreed to accept Raknur as a son too. After some whispering and arguing in hushed tones, the farmer, Regutin agreed. He was to teach Raknur all that he knew so that he might defend the home, the children, and Trenoan as Regutin when away to work. There were several days at a time when Regutin would travel that he was to trade his crops for things they needed all year.

Raknur grew strong, tall and proud. He quickly learned of weapons and some simple tactics for the farmer had learn but a few things working in the town militia years earlier. The farmer had done some traveling of his own and revealed he was a master of the greataxe... something that a master had taught him long ago. His great axe was sharp and with the right swing he could hit many targets at will in a short period of time. Raknur studied this technique and was encouraged to pursue it himself one day.

It was by chance that during one of the training sessions that Regutin was accidentally wounded by Raknur. A strange occurance of mis-balance, Raknur fell over backwards and landed on Regutin, pinning the smaller male between the half-giant and the ground. It was only after Raknur struggled like a turtle to gain his feet that he realized Regutin had fallen on his on great axe that was twisted between him and the hard ground. A chance slash that was not to happen.. a mistake that cost Regutin his life.

The children Moirar and Hithura vowed to never forgive Raknur for the death of their father and they made Raknur feel so guilty inside that the half-giant ran away into the night, taking only a few provisions and a basic weapon. He never did say goodbye to his mother, knowing Trenoan had begun to love the farmer, Regutin as her mate. His own mother said nothing to calm the children when they accused him of murdering Regutin... she too must want him gone like the others.

So Raknur struck out on his own. He traveled far from the village for he knew in his heart that no one would believe him when the death was just an accident. The villagers would tie him up and swing him on a rope before they would believe him. They would grieve long for Regutin was well liked by all the folk around.
Raknur managed to survive for a time based on what Trenoan taught him as a boy when they did so much traveling. Between the foraging and the training of steel, would it be enough for Raknur to survive alone on the road? Only time will tell.

Default RE: Raknur - new character submission

Only one thing, a PrC is not granted upon a character submission. They must be gained through Character Development Quest (CDQ). The rules concerning CDQ's are here. Other than that, approved as fighter only for the time being.
