Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default Calvin Ry'n

Name: Calvin Ry’n
Race: Half-elf
Age: 23
Classes: Fighter/Sorcerer (8/12)
Alignment: Neutral Good
Deity: Az’atta

Calvin Ry’n was born in a small elven village in northern Mistone. He was an abnormality amongst his people, as his father was a human. His parents had met outside the village, fell in love, and returned to his mother’s home. They were to be married, but his father was called off to fight in the war. He never returned back.

When Calvin was thirteen years old he began to notice there was something odd about him. He had a feeling, an almost sick feeling inside him. He had difficulty getting to sleep, and he felt uneasy during the day. After enough time had passed with these odd symptoms, he began to feel more attuned to the weave around him. He felt that he could tap into it, and with enough practice, he could do great things with the weave.

However, the people of Calvin’s village were not used to someone having a natural talent with the weave. They told him that it would not amount to anything and he should instead train with his weapons. With Calvin’s human blood, he was naturally tougher than most of the elves in the village, so he would make an ideal guard.

So for five years Calvin trained and served as a guard in the village. He became rather skilled with his weapons, and was one of the stronger guards in the village. However, he still liked to use his ability to tap into the weave on occasion, to help him perform his duties.

The villagers were not fond of this and told him that he should focus more on his physical training and guard duties than on his magical prowess. They, for the most part, believed that talent with the weave was reserved for full-blooded elves, and not a lowly, part-human guard. The head of the village reminded Calvin of this.

Calvin was not pleased. He returned home filled with rage. That night he felt himself become sick again, much like he did the very first time he used his magical powers. He felt uneasy and was filled with a rage. He needed to calm it. So he wandered the village at night for a time. There was almost no one on the streets that night, and the village was very quiet.

Eventually, Calvin came to the head of the village’s home. He could hardly stand the sight of it. What gave this man the right to tell anyone who was allowed to use the weave? Again, the sick feeling returned to him, and before he could gain complete control of himself, he had set the building aflame. At first he felt that it served the man justice, but as he watched the building collapse in the fire, he realized something was wrong. But it did not stop there. The guards witnessed the fire and the entire spectacle and made an attempt to apprehend Calvin. Instead, Calvin lashed out, and fought the two guards off, killing both of them. After he killed the two, he looked around the village, and it took a few moments for Calvin to realize what he had done.

He fled.

He fled to the forest, and hopefully to human lands. He could never return to his home, as they would know he had been responsible. Instead he would redeem himself, he would find forgiveness somehow.

Spiritually, he turned to Az’atta. He had heard she felt no one was below forgiveness, and he wanted a chance to redeem himself for what he had done. He would make amends for the death of the head of the village by embracing Az’atta and doing good acts. He vowed that he would put his magical talents and martial training to good use, and he would never again harm an innocent person.
