Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default New Character: Shi Xing

Full Name: Shi Xing
Age: 19
Class: Monk
Race: Human
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Ears Requested: Elven
Biography and Description:
-5'10"
-Brown eyes.
-Black hair.
-Tatoos, most notable would be the moon on one shoulder and the sun on the opposite each entwined into an elven womans face between each shoulder and centralized over the spine.
-Lean muscular build.
-A bit hard on the eyes.

Shi Xing was born in Hap and raised by his mother and older siblings. Occasionally his father would show up in his life but normally for a very short period of time. The last appearance though was marked with regret. His father wished he had remained in contact with his sons and daughters and on this note he insisted he would start now and try to be involved. Unfortunately he died before any of these dreams could be fulfilled leaving Shi Xing and his siblings with a void that can never be filled.

He left home at the early age of 14 and has been on the road ever since. Life was not easy but in many regards it was easier than living with the memories left by home. He learned early on how to fight with his hands having nothing else to defend himself with. Each new road, town or city was another training field for Shi Xing. Being that young you had to do what you must to survive and many times that meant finding oneself in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people.

The combination of this broken relationship with his father and his nomadic like lifestyle have conditioned Shi Xing to hold little merit in forging strong bonds with those he associates with. Finding it far safer to keep a distance. He also finds no solace in preying to the gods. Many would see this as an anti-social behavior, inferiority or superiority complex but none of these are the truth. It is merely a self-protection mechanism on his own behalf. While he does socialize he tends to keep to himself even when amongst his own companions and peers.

The only exception to this attitude would be his association with the elf Aeina. Aeina found Shi Xing after he had been ambushed and left for dead in a road side ditch. No doubt another circumstance of the wrong place, time and people. The elf nursed him back to health and during this time Shi Xing and Aeina came to know and trust one another but also learn much of the others culture and heritage.

By 18 Shi Xing had seen much of Mistone and even visted several of the other continents even if only to a limited degree. While on Rilara he found himself once again at the mercy of circumstance. In Aros he was assaulted by several members of a local gang. He was young and a stranger to the town. He would be easy prey. Or so they thought. He easily fought off each attack with ease. The entire scene was witnessed by an old monk. The real challenge was yet to come though. From around the corner came a very large half-orc wielding a comparably very large battle axe. Shi Xing was over his head this time. The other members were slowly recovering, the half-orc was step ever so closer and Shi Xing was out of ideas. Just then a fist came out of the shadows shattering the half-orcs jaw and sending him instantly and unconsciously to the ground. The other gang members had seen enough and immediately fled.

The old monk who had been watching Shi Xing fight dispatched the orc in one single blow and he also moved like still air, no sound. The monks name was Shaolin Wu and he would take Shi Xing under his wing for the next year teaching him the ways of using ones mind and body as a shield and weapon. Shi Xing found himself a wanderer again when he would discover Shaolin Wu murdered after a trip to Aros.

Perhaps I have done something wrong but I dont seem to have an elf ear. Was there something I needed to do to obtain it? Thanks.
