Default New character submission

Full Name: Ch’Tok
Age: 27
Class: Fighter(10)/Cleric(10)
Diety: Shindaleria
Domains: Healing/Water
Subrace: Half-Giant.
Alignment: Neutral Good

Biography and Description:
Ch’Tok has never been one to not be humble, nor do the expected. His mother was one of a handful of Giants who survived the cataclysmic events on the isles, but was marooned. His Human father, a Deckmaster then (now a KIA Shipmaster) found himself adrift after a sea-battle with a vessel from Milara. His father’s piece of hull drifted to the tiny fragment where his mother called home. His father and mother spent almost a year on the speck of dirt alone...it didn’t take long for the size to not become an issue in learning to want each others company. By the time a hospital ship found the two, the soon-to-be half-giant was being created in his mother’s womb. Un-phased his father used his small nobility influence in the Navy to bring his now pregnant Giant back home with him.

And so it was, this half-man and giant was born in the Kingdom of Roldem on the Isle of Calishan. As a child he grew up with the sea. He’d watch his father sail off on his ship, or watch the deckhands at work. His mother, the extreme oddity of the Kingdom, served as a surgeon. Her primitive shamanic magic’s healed some of the more extraordinary wounds. From this he learned to do what was just and right for his fellows, but found that being blinded by laws alone was not entirely wise. Ships officers had to be flexible yet maintain some discipline and healers like his mother put the good of another before pure duty. It seemed only natural for him to feel more of a benefactor, caring for crews and patients alike.

At the age of 18 he went to serve in the Roldemian Navy on the Eternal Resoluteness, as a Gunner and Surgeon’s Mate. His father was extremely proud. For nine years he served with distinction. It was during these years on the sea that whsipers of the goddess of the sea began to sprout. Sailors are a superstitious lot and prayers and chants would be given in her name daily during long patrols. One such patrol brought the Eternal Resolution to the sight of a whirlpool that had suddenly formed amidst a smuggler ship they had been tracking for dealing in illegal necromatic-magics. Whatever was the cause of the whirlpool was soon lost upon the crew, as not only the smuggler was being pulled down, but the Resolution herself.
It was at this moment, something happened. Sea elves appeared trailed by a pair enourmous creatures the sights Ch'Tok had never seen before. At first the crew was panicky, but the officers held fast...the gigantic fish-like creatures were being led by the sea elves and pushed the Resolution out of the swirling waters!
Shouts of praise be Shindaleria were heard at once. But there was a price. One of the large fish-like creatures had become injured in the pushing of the large sail-going vessel. It's soft skin had been cut and a fin nearly dangled off. Ch'Tok as one of the few people on board who could use healing kits, rushed off the boat, forgetting he couldn't really swim. His target had been to do what he could for the beat that had saved them..bu in the process he had neeed saving of his own. Luckily the sea elves helped the half-giant stay afloat, while he pointed to the kit and the injured beast. It was a patched-up job, but it was enough to keep the beast from bleeding to death. While the crew watched in amazement, a sea elf clad in shimmeirng blues came towards Ch'Took and patted him aside, casting healing spells. It was at that moment, Ch'Tok felt insignificant. It was like seeing his mother heal. From that time on he began to learn first hand what he could of the goddess of the sea (since he can't read very well.)

Near the end of those years eventually, with some pull from his father was going to be given the opportunity to be commissioned a Learner, but fate had other plans.
A terrible skirmish with the Milara found his father’s ship lost with all hands. Something in his blood seemed to fold, rather then snap a little. What exactly it was he couldn’t tell...but he found he lost all desire for a career. Perhaps it was something calling him, which he finally heard upon his father’s death.

A month later he resigned, took some basic equipment and charted a ship to the mainland. His mother would have understood, being of giant blood. For now he sees himself as a fledgling field medic and warrior. Perhaps someday when he beats back these demons that have haunted him since his father’s death he’ll return back to the sea for good. Until then, he needs to set some things right...or die trying.

As tall and big as Ch’Tok is, he’s actually extremely conscious of it, and feels uncomfortable when it becomes an issue in 'small spaces’. When not in-battle, he’s usually quiet, because he can’t speak properly but loves to interject some humor, even when trying to tend wounds. In combat though he becomes a polar opposite defending his comrades fiercely and loudly, shouting what orders he can. In some ways he's become a battle-cleric from the seas.
Oh and don't mind his manner of sea-cant speech. He's still a sailor at heart, and will never be able to lose his fore and aft, starboard and port mentality.

1. I have read the information on Shindaleria and I will play Ch'Tok as a faithful priest of Shindaleria to the best of my abilities.

2. As a sailor, Ch'Tok gives his thanks to the goddess of the seas even when not above her waters. Surprisingly he's not that great a swimmer, just more of a 'floater'. To him maintaining ships above the seas, and keeping ceremonies is just as important as those that live below the waters.

3. Ch'Tok may not be the brightest chip in the block, but he is wise enough to know that he can't be limited to one particular weapon or armor that may save his life or others. On ships he wore light armor but used whatever hand weapon he had hold of at the time. Now on land, he's finding such watery tactics are not helpful in trying to live and fight. Being of giant-kin he'll use whatever is closest to his sailor-faring weapons, whenever, as long as it can be made blue in the name of his goddess.

This is a great start but something I would like clarified is where his devotion to Shindaleria came from and how it developed to the point where he became a cleric of a sea elf god. I imagine it came from his fathers influence being a sailor and continued from there...but nice to see how it developed since he is going to become a follower of her.

"Luckily the sea elves helped the half-orc stay afloat, while he pointed to the kit and the injured beast." Heh I imagine you mean Half-giant!

In terms of weapon use I think it would be against your upbringing and learnings about Shindaleria if suddenly you were running around weilding a greatsword....would like to see you stick to traditional weapons used by sailors and such.
