Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Default New character- Glorb

Name: Glorb
Age: ? Older.. I'm not sure the exact age for an old goblin
Race: Goblin
Class: Rouge (trader probably best as rogue maybe wizard someday)
Deity: (Whatever the default Goblin one would be, or the god of trade)
Alignment: NN
Bio:

Glorb is older and fatter than most adventuring goblins. He is greenish in hue with grey/white facial hair, which he wears in a long thin Fu-Manchu style moustache. (That is a trait as well as most goblins do not have facial hair, how he achieved this he doesn't discuss, whether because of a mutation or magic no one knows)He is fond of drink and women although being a goblin it takes more gold than others for him to acquire his fill of both. He also distrusts all humans, he is polite if nessisary but would prefer not to do business with them. He can be seen wearing many pouches and belts with items ready to sell to any passerby. He is a merchant out in the world to make a buck.

Long ago in Glorb's past...

It was a nice day for cave fishing, which are most days when the caves are free of bears, dragons or other inhospitable animals. Glorb being a young goblin had travelled far in the caves to find a good fishing spot. Glorb and his friends would often explore the caves looking for good fishing spots, after all we all know that albino cave fish are the best to eat raw, anyway. While this small group of young goblins was enjoying their day they heard a ruckus outside of the cave they were fishing in. Being curious they went to go see, but of course being goblins they decided against intervening.

Outside the cave a human girl in her finery and a knight of some sort were travelling along the nearby road. It seemed another group of humans, perhaps bandits decided to stop them, an argument followed and eventually the girl and the knight were slain. The goblins being creatures of opportunity decided to inspect the fallen humans after the bandits had left of course. The girl and the knight were very dead, but the goblins found several items among their things that they thought would be quite valuable. Collecting the clothes and trinkets (no gold however the items the goblins got the bandits must have thought were of no real value, except maybe to cave fishing goblins that is) the goblins returned to the cave to eat their fish and go through all of the their newly acquired merchandise.

After a few hours, and after the goblins had tried on some of the clothes they had found (which I must say a goblin in velvet red gown is some sight) dark figured slowly approached the group of goblins. Because the of the good spoils and good fish, as well as a few ales the goblins did not hear the figures approach. Coming into the fire light, the figures manifested themselves as humans, at first the goblins thought the bandits had returned but the young man that led the group was not wearing the bandits garb, in fact he had armour much like the fallen knights with an emblem that matched the jerkin one goblin was now wearing. The young man appeared to get very angry and said something in the strange human tongue which none of the young goblins knew. Before the goblins could explain what happened and how the knight had fought bravely, the young man ran the goblin wearing the jerkin through.

Others that came with the knight also began attacking. Glorb fairly smart for a goblin had backed away from the intruders early on so he quickly ran to make his escape. The other goblins quickly fell to the overpowering adventurers. One of the group noticed Glorb running away and threw an axe at him. The axe landed on Glorb’s leg just below the knee taking the lower leg with it. Glorb looked about him and seeing a crack in the cave wall slid himself still bleeding into the crevice. At first the humans looked for him briefly then they left. Luckily Glorb was able to reach the clothes still lying on the ground about the cave and used a belt to stop the bleeding of his leg. Eventually he returned home and recovered.

A couple of things please:

Details on age and races etc can be found here: http://nwn.layonara.com/StartHere

Should your aligment be TN? These is no NN.

While this is great its really only one event in his life...would love to see a bit more detail on why he got into adventuring etc..obviously at this encounter he cannot speak common...how did he learn that? etc

If you arent sure on gods and he is not overly religious then dont worry about one...or else explore the dieties and choose something appropriate

Default RE: New character- Glorb

I still couldn't find the ages for a goblin, I figure he will be about middle age, about 50 if he were human. I checked the link you posted but I didn't see the ages for goblins just most of the other races. And I wasn't sure how to put True Nuetral but that is what i was thinking. Also can I wait on the God and pick it later?

Well after his encounter with the humans he had begun to study common, as it is tradition to learn your enemies tounge.

Several years later...

Glorb appears over the stones viewing the nearest village of humans. It has taken him many years to peice together the humans complex and harsh language. HE still keeps notes in a small brown journal in one of his many pouches. In the years following he had first hated humans with all his heart but as most passions do his hated also began to fade. HE began to look upon the village more like a boy studing ants in his ant farm than planning an attack. Also Glorb being one goblin knows he couldn't do much if he wanted, He had seen many strong goblin warriors fall to many adventurers.

It was a sunny afternoon toward the begining of fall, this time was always Glorbs favourite, he loved to sit and watch the leaves change. Other than a slight breeze from the southwest nothing was unusal about that particular afternoon. As I had said Glorb still had no love for the humans he watched, but for so long his hatred of them lead him to this place, his hidden cliffside overlooking the town that to tell the truth it was habit to come and spend the afternoons watching the events in the village. On this particular afternoon there was a bit of ruckus down below.
Glorb peered over the edge wondering what was happening, was it a union between sexes? Glorb had seen several of the strange customs, this particular one he found most odd, the humans called it a wedring. But that was not what he was seeing, a small hooded wagon entered the vilage. A wagon itself was not that uncommon. Glorb had seen many wagons come and go.. well not many but enough. This one did seem odd though. For one it seemed smaller than the others and it was painted with bright colours and designs, at least maybe 10 years ago they were bright and colourful, but still more fanciful than anything he had seen past through.

As he was watching he was a little taken back by what he saw. A boy climbed out of a wagon, a boy with a moustache? Now this was odd.. Glorb's tribe was pretty confined to the mountains, and kept to themselves and to the caves. They would occasionally trade with Hobgoblins or the milder mannered orcs but they saw little of other races. Glorb had met and elf once, though he did not know what she was at the time, and even a Dwarf. Infact some of the underdark races would occasionally come around, but this was new.

The small man gave a large bow to the crowd that had begun to collect around him. HE wore a red coat and a large black hat. He seemed to be very rich from what Glorb could tell, yet he had no shoes. This was common enough with goblins but the humans always had some type of shoes, also the mans feet were rather large compaired to his short stature, not enormous yet not childlike either. Infact the more he watched the less childlike the man seemed.

For hours he watched amazed by what happened the man would produce one fantastic thing after another out of his small wagon. Glorb wondered how it all fit n such a small space. Each thing he would reveal it seemed was something one human or another desired most in the world, as if his cart carried not curiosities but dreams incarnate. HE was amazed at the power such a small man could have other the town of humans. They sang his praises and brought him nothing but the best of what they had to offer. Treasures all that the town had flowed like water into his pockets. Glorb almost fell off the hill at one point amazed at exchange below.

Long after dark this continued until it seemed every one in the village has recieved the item of thier foundest dreams. Only when the people stoped comming did the small man begin to close up his wagon and pack whatever he must have left, Though Glorb couldn't belive thier could be much left. After the last of the human fires had long been out, yet still sometime from dawn the wagon started to pull out of the town.

Glorb shocked by someone so small and weak having so much control over so many strong humans, started to follow the little man.

After the 3rd or so small town the man had noticed his stalker, he desided to take pity on the creature, or maybe he desided to sell him later which could be the case, he allowed Glorb to accompany him. After some discussions he told him why he leaves in the night, how the magical gifts are really nothing special at all, and how most people will notice after a day or two. After Glorb knew that not only did a small a seemingly weak man collect so much treasure by doing so little, but also that the man had basically tricked the humans out of thier gold he was sold. Glorb knew that this must be what he will do with his life, and became an apprentice to the halfling hoping someday to be a trader and merchant. Also knowing he can collect more treasure than 100 lifetimes of his fellow cave dwelling goblins.

Nope, attaching a picture like that certainly does not help the situation. Not sure why you did it other than perhaps to be aggrevating, and I hope that was not the reason.

This character is approved as TN and a middle age goblin.
