Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Default Mallok Dv'ragormann

Name: Mallok Dv’ragormann
Sex: Male
Race: Gnome
Age: 298
Class: Wizard (illusionist)
Alignment: True Neutral
Deity: None

Mallok stands no more than three feet high, heavily cloaked with a slight curvature of his back accented by hunched shoulders. He walks holding a magical staff he uses for support, occasionally grunting with effort as paces along. His face is weathered with a combination of age and battle-scars. A thick bulbous nose protrudes the veil of darkness cast by his hood, bordered underneath by a grey-white well trimmed beard. When spoken to he has a rich deep and strong voice, almost ambiguous to the frailness of his body.

Mallok is old for a Gnome. His life began in a typical subterranean Gnomish village where he was raised learning the art of the weave specialising in illusion. After many years he was caught by the desire to travel and left his subterranean abode to enrich his life with new sights, experiences and more importantly treasures.

Life on the surface was a real treat for Mallok. However, after some years exploring Mistone he eventually settled at Point Harbour where he tried his luck trading on the docks. He excelled at mercantile. The innate gnomish aptitude at appraising coupled with his high intellect allowed him to articulate and negotiate deals that brought him a fast and healthy profit. What he lacked, however, was the knowledge and street wisdom required to protect his business. As fast as he built his fortunes he lost them to the street vagabonds and secretive rogue factions. This battle he fought for many years and eventually succumbed to.

Losing everything he owned and desperate for an alternate source of income he joined a group of mercenaries. There he quickly found his place, becoming an asset by appraising the spoils from battles, identifying magical treasures and adding to the group by using his illusion expertise to sneak them into places they would normally avoid.

The mercenary life agreed with Mallok. He found many magical items and increased his spell repertoire from the many scrolls found along the way. Due to the life of a Gnome out spanning the life of humans he would often find himself with a new band of adventures every decade or so. Life was always on the move, occasionally settling in new towns or cities to spend the small fortunes gathered along the way. His geographic knowledge increased as did his wealth and expertise with magic.

After many years the only thing against Mallok was time. He was getting old and his body was starting to feel it. It was cruel. His mind was sharp and his intellect growing yet the body was less nimble and forgiving as it once was.
The only thing that seemed to grow within him was his knowledge and magic. So Mallok made a decision to pursue his career in magic. He hoped that his own personal gains in the weave would expand his time on Layonara and supplement the flaws in his physical diminishments.

Packing his personal belongings and banking his fortunes he set sail from Loriander, the town he had spent the last three years. His target, the Great Library on Mistone, would be the beginning of his new adventure, the quest of power and knowledge.

Along the way aboard the ship his sleep was troubled one night. He was greeted by a golden dragon, an image that he thought was the greatest illusion he has ever seen...

I revel in their sheepishness, the way my eloquence can baffle and confuse the most confident of assailants."
