Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

| First Character: Lotharian Luin'Xarrnis Full Name: Lotharian Luin’Xarrnis
Age: 165
Class(es): Fighter(10)/Rogue(10)
Race: Elf
Subrace: Moon Elf (Standard Elf)
Alignment: Neutral Good
Deity: Shindaleria
Ears Requested: Elven(Racial), thieves cant -Note: Lotharian will have 14 intelligence.
Description: Lotharian (or Lothar as he is more commonly known) stands at around 5’3” and 135 lbs. He wears his azure hair long, though tied back from his emerald-green eyes. His face is kind and shows one who enjoys a good laugh and often at that. He appears strongly built and fairly hardy. Despite that, he moves with grace and agility, much like an acrobat at times. His skin is rather rough and slightly tanned, showing hard work and much time spent outdoors. Around his neck he wears a silver necklace with a blue-crystalline jewel shaped like a water droplet.
Biography: Lothar was raised by his parents in a small cottage on the coastline of Voltrex. Vilandu Luin’Xarrnis, his father, worked as a sailor and mercenary in his youth before settling down with his mate, Shillani Luin’Xarrnis. Lothar’s mother was an acrobat and traveling entertainer. Vilandu bought a small boat and starting fishing as a job at the insistence of Shillani, who just wanted to settle down with their new-born child. Lothar’s family lived for the most part off fishing and food they grew, trading the excess to buy other necessities.
His childhood was a happy one, filled with stories of adventure. Vilandu remembered his life as a sailor fondly and recounted many tales of those times to his son. Tales including pirates, storms, and other dangers common to life on the high seas. Living at home with the ocean gave Lothar a deep love of the water and took after his Father in the fact he worships Shindaleria, the Mother Ocean. Lothar even to this day will often give thanks to the Mother Ocean when near a body of water. Not surprising in the fact his family survived by the oceans bounty and gifts.
Lothar picked up many lessons during his time at home. His father passed on to his son his sailing expertise and love of the sea, as well as, his skill with blades, particularly the rapier. His mother taught him how to move with balance and precision, coupled with the ability to talk convincingly and influence others thoughts.
Lothar left home after his 128th birthday. The final gift from his Father and Mother was the blue-crystalline, water-droplet jewel amulet her wears around his neck. If asked about it, he’ll likely only reply that it’s a good luck charm though he values it much, much more than that.
He left Voltrex within that year as wanderlust had captured his soul. He found during this time he loved the ocean even more and worked aboard all sorts of different ships including merchant, guard, and trading ships. He worked these easy, though boring jobs for around another two decades just enjoying seeing the world and learning what more he could about it. This was not to last as a great opportunity was waiting just around the corner.
It was in a small portside town where Lothar met Captain Falian. Lothar had just finished his latest contract on a trading vessel and was looking for his next job. Captain Falian and him bumped into one another and began a long chat, both finding a kindred spirit that day. It turned out Captain Falian and his crew were pirate hunters, scouring the sea with the intention of making it safer for everyone. After warning Lothar about the dangers of the such a life, the Captain offered Lothar a job as his lookout in the crow’s nest. Lothar accepted this job earnestly and started his life as an adventurer.
The life was a dangerous one and while Lothar had some skill with his sword, it was not nearly enough to fight alongside the rest of Falian’s seasoned crew. He virtually remained in the crow’s nest during the battles, watching the fighting carefully. None of the pirates ever bothered him, as they had more pressing concerns when dealing with the actual warriors on Falian’s crew and he was well out of the way in the crow's nest high above the actual fighting. The crew would often spar with him though on the slower days, teaching him finesse and how to parry and shield himself from attack.
It was in the first few weeks with Falian when Lothar ran into his first bad storm in the crow’s nest. He was able to tie himself in securely but could not relay any of what he saw down to the crew with the howling wind. When the storm passed Lothar took this concern to the Captain. Falian was a clever man and had faced this problem before and knew a way around it. Lothar was sent to speak with the first mate of the ship, Alduran Kesstha. Lothar had seen him around but never taken the time to speak with him before. After a long chat with first mate Kesstha, Lothar discovered Falian’s idea. Alduran was to teach Lothar thieves cant so on the windy days he could relay what he saw down to Alduran to be passed on to the Captain. Alduran’s father had been in a thieve's guild for many years, so Alduran had learned the language since he was able to first speak. Lothar picked up the basics of the language quickly, and by the end of his sixteen year run with Captain Falian and his crew could communicate easily and effectively in sign language with Alduran and the few other crew mates who knew it.
After sixteen years in Falian’s crew Lothar was forced to depart when Falian retired. The Captain was only human and after so many years on the sea just wanted some peace. Lothar left the crew and Captain on good terms and has just started to look for new adventure... | | |
