Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

| Character Submission: Nepp'akyo. (Revised) EDIT: Please view my second post!
God I suck at writing! Please bear with me, any suggestions are welcome and appreciated!
Name: Nepp'akyo Do'Urden
Age: 167
Race: Elf
SubRace: Drow
Class: Ranger
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Description: Nepp'akyo Do-Urden(Nepp for short) Tall for a drow standing at 5'11, around 168 pounds, long white hair(ofcourse! Im drow), except for a scar from the corner of the right eye, down the cheek to the chin, which happened during youth, in weapons practice. Few years later, my 'fellow' student that gave me the scar, is sporting one of his own. I may of gone a bit too deep, his head landed 6 feet away from his body. Oh well.
Biography: A member of the Do'Urden house, a very minor son, beneith notice of the matron. I Was intrigued by the exploits of the elder Drizzt(Shh! we are forbidden to use that name!). Defying Drow law, killing of fellow drow, escaping to the surface, what was not to be interested in him? This made me want to escape the wretched underdark, and explore the surface world. I've always had an interest in roaming, looking for new experiences. In a long life span, what else is there to do? The intrigues of the houses gets pretty boring fast. Same with the endless killing. Now all I had to do was make plans on getting out of here.
After many years(Over 130!), finally made my escape to the surface. No one will miss a couple of females. Not my fault they fell on my blade. Repeatedly.
My, no one said it was this bright! And my weapons and armour! They lost their Drow magical properites and once again became just plain metal. Black, and stylish, but still servicable weapons, I'll miss my purple glowing blade. It took over a year just to adjust to the brightness, hiding out in caves, slowly venturing out and withstanding that bright orb. Now, I can walk in daylight. That burning orb, its extremely fascinating, sometimes I just sit there and stare at it as long as I can...The forest, it calls to me. The hunting of game, the magnificent of the trees..the solitude..I can be free here.
After a few years wandering this great forest, it started to thin out, then disappeared completly, except for a few trees here and there, nothing to justify calling it a forrest. It took mecouple months of wandering, living off the land, I came to what looks like a city. I wonder what will happen when I get there?

| Re: Character Submission: Nepp'akyo I cannot approve this character as CN...this is a restricted alignment.
You will also need to change your last name as that one is copyrighted to Drizzt...well not to him but to those who created him.
And also being a drow I need a lot more bio here to explain how he came to be on the surface...and some of the acts you allude to are more of an evil alignment. Please look at these aspects.

| Re: Character Submission: Nepp'akyo Thanks I will try. Whew. Its hard to do this! I never gamed with paper, so this is all new to me.
I guess the above post is irrelevent now. Do I repost it here, or created a new thread? I guess for now I'll repost it here.
It will prolly suck a bit. Hopefully I can get it right.
Name: Nepp'akyo Da'Ladiûm
Age: 137
Race: Elf
SubRace: Drow
Class: Ranger
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Description: Nepp'akyo Da'Ladiûm (Nepp for short) Tall for a drow standing at 5'11, around 168 pounds, long white hair(ofcourse! Im drow), except for a scar from the corner of the right eye, down the cheek to the chin, which happened during youth, in weapons practice.
Biography: How does one hold honour in a hounorless society? Answer: Carefully. One small misstep, and its off to be sacraficed. Something mot very pleasent.
My name is Nepp'akyo Da'Ladiûm. My so called brethren like to call me Nepp, since they don't like a Drow from a minor house. We're so called inferior to the major houses. They seem to think this bothers me. It does not. I learned at an early age to ignore slights and insults. What can you do? Being in a minor house. and all the students are from the major houses. I hold my tounge. I shall not be in this forsaken place for long. I just have to survive weapons training.
My house you ask? Well, nothing really to tell. The Matron Xuneera Da'Ladiûm, a vile Drow as they come, obessesd with the power of the major Drow houses. Sadly, she doesnt have the power, or the resources to confront them, nor any other minor houses. Which is a good thing for me, I escape her notice, and that of the priestess.
Lets see. Where did my journey begin? Probably when I killed my sister, Jelia. My mother's so-called 'High Preiestess". It started when I stumbled appon her in the slave pens. I had never been allowed there, nor to associated with any of the slaves. I came across her tortureimg an impaled human slave. I don't know what came over me, torture and crueluty are the norm for the drow, but this scene it seemed to say to me "Enough is enough". So with rage in my heart, I withdrew my swords and killed her. I had done something unspeakable. I killed a priestess. When found out, I could look forward to weeks of torture, then a very slow death. Something I wanted to avoid with all my being. As I approached the human slave, he looked at me, the he said "Please. kill me. Release me from this pain" A feeling I never felt before came over me. Later I found out its called compassion. So, i pulled out my dagger, and stabbed him in the heart, giving him the quickest death I could.
Not knowing what to do, I released all the slaves, and started a fire in the pens. I fled the city of Tlethtyrr, many weeks I survived on local fauna, my wits and my swords. I eventually met up with a group of strange drow. They seemed to be a mix of human, some other kind elf I have never seen and drow. What kind of race is this? Also some of their number were made up of full blooded drow too. What a motley group. I told them my story, and what I had done. No one seemed to care. A couple smirked, like they enjoy seeing a drow fall from grace.
They told me they were traders and were on their way up to the surface to do some trading. I had never heard of drow going to the surface before. Suddenly I wanted to see this world, a world of light. So I asked their leader if I could accompany them on their journey. I could be a guard, since all I knew of was fighting, I wasn't far from begging them. It took a bit of convincing, and my house ring to be able to accompany them. Oh, when we got to the surface, everything was strange! Almost frightening! One half-drow took some pity on me, taught me the "common" trade language all the races use, and how to survive in the surface world, slowly to tolerate the light of what they called that fiery orb, the sun. I seemed to loose most of my pitifull magic, except the globe of darkness. That and my weapons should help me survive up here.
While camping near a huge forest one night, I was drawn to it. So large! I never seen a tree before, let alone monsters that reach 200 feet high! So while they slept, I quietly melted away into the forest. I never saw those traders again.
Let me tell you, those woods! Magnificient! I have never felt so alive. It seems I have developed some kind of teleapathy or rapport, whatever it is, with various animals in this forrest. Not much on conversation, mostly about who eats whom, Im hungry that sort of thing. I dont know if this was latent, or not. Its the most strangest thing I have ever encoountered! I have come to love this life of solitude. At least the animals dont care that I am drow.
One day I was roaming the woods, like normal, I came across this strange elf, I guess he'd be called a surface elf. I heard stories as a child about them, I just thought they were characters made up, to frighten and disgust drow children. As quietly as I could, I snuck up, he must of heard my passage or something, he whipped around, sword out calling out "whos there!" When I cam closer to him, he mutter angrily "Drow!" Luckly I never neglected my weapon training, and I was able to hold him off. I tried to radiate that I meant no harm, like I did with some animal preditors. He stopped, backed away and said "You feel like a ranger!' I replied "A what?" Then he went on an explained what a ranger was, how they have an affinity with the forest and the animals. "My name is Laender Silverhead" and I gave him my name, since honor demanded it of me when he told me his. He said "Its very strange to see a drow up here, and a ranger at that!" So with that, I told him what befell me. We talked for a good 3 hours, and I got alot of information about various races and the area in general.
He had some business else where and had to leave, but he gave me a token, a ring with his symbol on it. He said to approach any city and present the ring to the guard, and I would be allowed in. He pointed the way to the nearest city, and departed on his way. I very lucky to have ran into this elf, he explained alot about me, and of the surface world in this area.
Now I'm off to this city he spoke of, light of heart, I wonder what will happen next?
