| Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | First Character Submission: Damien Sagito Full Name: Damien Sagito Age: 42 Class: Monk Race: Human Alignment: Lawful Neutral Deity: None -- Physical Traits:
Damien is a lean-built, average-heighted middle aged man. He has dark brown hair, with greyish areas over his ears, brown eyes and a distinctive scar over his left shoulder. -- Bio: Damien was born in the outskirts of Nogar and since youth was comitted to a simple country life. As his father before him, Damien planned to grow and become one of the best deer-hunter in the region. He married at the age of 25 with his spouse, Nelia, and had a son, Terrick. About 10 years ago, while doing a deer run with his young son, tragedy struck on Damien in the form of a rabid wolf pack. Uncommon to those areas, the wolves caught Damien and Terrick by surprise and slain the infant. Barely escaping alive, Damien was found in shock by his fellow hunters nearby, who nourished him to conciousness. Learning of her child's loss, Nelia blamed Damien for what had happened and left him to grive. With his life torn, Damien decided to pick what little posessions he had and journeyed west towards the hills. Ill-prepared for the harsh climate of the Greypeak Mountains, Damien was caught in a snowstorm by the third week of his journey. Again feeling that all hope was lost, Damien wandered with no food and little water for several days until he reached a concealed settlement on one of the mountains. Pale and weak, Damien knocked at the massive oak door and was recieved by a bald, old man. As soon as Damien greeted him, he passed out. What Damien had found was the hermitic camp of Khaij, home of the Children of Stillness. These men and women had long ago secluded themselves from the outer world in the mountains of Greypeak and managed to sustain a balanced community in the mountains, feeding of inner-grown vegtables and animals. Damien woke up from his weakened state after a few days and was welcomed to the community. Damien spent the next 6 years in Khaij, learning the ways of his hosts and helping around wherever needed. But the time had come when Damien had his inner wounds supposedly forgotten and decided to walk outside and make a new life for his own. Making a vow of silence concerning the encampment, Damien headed out into the World he had left so many years ago to start anew... -- Personality Traits:
Damien is not a monk in the real meaning of the word, since he follows no strict conduct or deity. Alas, Damien even despises deities in general, since he felt abandoned by them at the loss of his son. Damien seeks to know more about the world, helping around wherever needed and perfecting his inner self by both mental and physical training as he conducted with the Childer of Stillness. He is often reserved and of little words, but gentle and calm. However, there is still an inner bitterness for all that he has lost that somehow, sometimes, still shines through...
Due to his vow of silence and painful memories, Damien is highly ellusive on talking about himself and his past, generally making up facts to cover up his griefs. | | |

Also, if you would like to expand the world of Layonara and get an official entry on the Children of Stillness to the Layonara handbook I would suggest that you do a small writeup on them and send it to EdTheKet. He will review it and incorporate it to the Layonara lore. This is however by no means mandatory.
