| Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | Willem Gutterson This was my original character submission that was turned down due to alignment. I have been playing on Layo for more than two months now and would like to re-submit a char with a CN alignment
Name: Willem Gutterson
Age: 19
Class: Rogue 10 & Cleric 10
Race: Human
Alignment: CN
Deity. Branderback
Domains: Trickery & Destruction
Bio:
Born the bastard son of a Pranzis , Willem was an quiet child (as one had to be whilst his mother was working), and always rather inward looking. His natural introspectiveness was forced to change when he was 12 and his mother died leaving him a penniless orphan. He was taken in by a former friend of his mothers who may or may not have been his father. Thus his 'father' taught him a trade, that of thief. A small and dexterous child he could wriggle through windows that others couldn't. It was also his father who showing a humour typical of the rough world in which Willem lived, gave him his surname.
As he became more useful to his father and his cronies he was taught how to read and write and basic numeracy - after all what good was breaking into a safe if you couldn't read which documents were merely shopping lists and which were bank bonds!
Willem learnt that to one such as him life gave nothing. To get, you had to grab. The only time you didn't grab with both hands was when you had a dagger in one hand at someones throat. That said Willem never killed or hurt his victims unnecessarily. After all a corpse always got the watch asking *lots* of awkward questions, and the man you hurt unnecessarily had the image of your face burnt into his mind.
Willem's real speciality was with locks though, and getting into houses past the guards without being seen. Just as it looked his future was to be set as a stealthy lockman, an event changed his life. Still a quiet lad of deep thoughts he was on his about to enter a large mansion when he felt a voice telling him it was a trap. He listened to this inner voice, and warned his colleagues that job was a trap. They went in and he stayed. It was a trap, and while Willem fled his colleagues weren't so lucky.
Two days later as he watched his colleagues (his 'father' amongst them) kicking their heels together at the end of a rope he realised that his life had been saved through divine intervention. Branderback, the Wary Shadow had spoken to him, and saved. From then on he knew he was Branderback's tool, and he would follow his will, while continuing to pilfer his way to a wealthy retirement!
Now Willem has two goals in one. To steal the wealth of the world, and to do the bidding of Branderback wherever there is shadow and a full vault!
Willem has never been arrested by the watch due his appearance. It is in a word non-descript. Of mid height, with mousy brown hair and dark features he will disapear and blend into the background in most cities. In addition he has a rather less than sparkling personality (although by no means obnoxious) that means people who has spoken to just forget he ever existed.
Cleric/Paladin/Champion required paragraphs:
1. I have read the information on Branderback and I will play Willem as a faithful priest of Branderback to the best of my abilities.
2. Branderback expects, nay demands, that Willem makes as much of himself as he can. It is his intention to rise to the top through means both foul and fair. Willem has no preference for colleagues either good or evil, as long he makes a tidy sum at the end. That said an alliance is only an alliance when it helps him, and should the balance of an alliance chance to not be in his favour, then he will loose interest, and maybe even swap sides!
While Branderback prefers use of the bow, one of Willems quirks is his attachment to the short sword or dagger, especially when in enclosed areas. This comes from an incident several years earlier where he accidentally shot a friend in the backside with an arrow whilst involved in a minor scuffle over guild turf. The friend, 'Lame Marrick' is still not talking to Willem.
3. Still young, Willem desires to prove himself, and realises that always moving about will help. In addition it is never desirable to spend too long in a location when in his line of business! | | |
