Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Default Character Submission: Morgan Whitelock

Full Name: Morgan Whitelock
Age: 20
Class: Fighter
Race: Human
Alignment: Neutral Good
Deity: None
Biography and Description:

Morgan is a refugee from the demon haunted land of Xantril. His family are farmers working a holding along the Shisnee River. Morgan was remarkable among his village for his greater than average intelligence. Unfortunately, this brought him to the attention of his demonic masters at an early age. Because of his more refined intelligence and therefore his ability to understand his situation, he was singled out of his village for "special treatment", tortured and altered for the sake of whim. The experience gave him prematurely white hair, while the evil arts practiced on him left his skin with an ashen cast and patterns of ritual scars covering his entire body. A long, deep scar covers the right side of his face, legacy of a scratch for displeasing a lesser demon.

Unknown to him, his father had hatched a plan years ago to get him out. While not a smart man, his father understood that gaining notice would ultimately be fatal to Morgan. With infinite patience, he gathered stores and other items of need, waiting until the time was right and telling no one of his plans. When he judged the time was right, he put his son in a boat he had secreted on the river with supplies and money, and gave him instructions to find a shipping route where he was likely to find a trading ship. Sailing out to the Glittering Sea, he had a difficult time of it, nearly capsizing and flooding his boat several times due to his inexperience. Eventually, though, he was picked up by a passing ship headed for Lorindar.

Morgan worked his passage to Lorindar, picking up some rudimentary sailor's skills. Eventually he arrived in Lorindar and took up his new life. Vowing never to be at the mercy of evil again, he took up the warrior's trade, enlisting as a common soldier in the armies of Dregar. He acquitted himself well and was discharged after his two years of service were up. His armsmaster was pleased with his thirst for knowledge and mastery of as many weapons as he could learn.

Morgan is a basically friendly person. His time in the military forged bonds of friendship and taught him how normal people behave, uninfluenced by the taint of evil. He is helpful, kind and a steady friend. However, deep within him is an abiding hatred of demons and tyranny. His friendly demeanor leaves him quickly when confronting the servants of evil, leaving the blank, neutral expression he learned to adopt for his survival on Xantril. He is merciless toward the servants of evil, showing no quarter and accepting no surrenders. He sometimes has bouts of moodiness and bad temper, usually when he has too much time on his hands to think about his past.

In appearance, Morgan is tall and stocky as befits a warrior, his skin has a grey cast and is covered with ritual scars in strange patterns covering his body. His hair is white, turned prematurely by the twisted magics and tortures devised for him. His eyes are a striking violet and seem to burn with an emotion that people can't quite identify. On the right side of his face, a deep scar travels from his forehead to his chin.

Morgan's feelings about the Gods are driven by ignorance. In his youth the only gods he was ever exposed to were those of evil. This has given him a lingering suspicion and slight resentment toward paladins and clerics of good, wondering where they were when his family needed them, and why they allow the demons to continue to oppress his people.

While he learns the arts of war, Morgan also reads avidly. He has a thirst for knowledge of other things that originally gained him unwanted attention so many years ago. He usually keeps his reading secret or as low-key as possible out of habit. Of particular interest are books on Demon lore or the workings of evil.
