Vin Onyxshade started his quasi-heroic career as a true neutral. He was this in almost every aspect. He was nice enough to most folks
and for the most part he did "good." His evil tendencies, if any stemmed from his systematic and direct approach to things. He most
often would accomplish a goal in the most straightforward manner, even if it did not morally sit 100% with other people.
Vin's years of adventuring have slowly changed him, shaping and molding him with each encounter and choice. He has become greedier, almost to
a fault. His greed often endangers himself as well as others. As such, he finds more often than not, he is looking out solely for himself
and any help or assistance he lends to others is often a veil of duplicity with an underlying motive for personal gain. He often finds himself
manipulating people and situations for his own benefit.
Vin has killed countless times over his career. The vast majority of those kills have been "evil" people or creatures, yet with so much killing,
it becomes second nature and the cause, reasons, and justification tend to blur for him. While he only has one clear instance of killing an
innocent, it does stand out as it was a young boy. He slit the boy's throat as he viewed it the quickest solution to ending a great threat.
His history with death and killing, combined with his mounting greed has begun to develop a mental state in which he sees little reason not
to kill someone or something if the reward was great enough.
Since childhood Vin has held a deep hatred of Drow. He rejoices in killing them in his trips to the Underdark. Killing members of this evil race
can easily be seen as good, but for Vin it is far darker. His hatred has festered over the years and he has fed it and encouraged it. While
he often kills Drow on his Underdark excursions, he would likely, if given the opportunity torture and prolong the death of many he kills. He
often takes trophies as well and uses them for jewelry and adornments. He carries a Drow skull on a stick in his pack and pulls it out on occasion
to remember the day he took it. Hatred this deep for a race, no matter what their intention is not healthy and feeds Vin's darker side.
As the years progressed, Vin has made numerous friends and acquaintances. Some of the most respected and renowned people in the land know Vin and many
actaully trust him to an extent. The roguish bard Acacea often acts as his fence along with her cohort Triba and amazingly he has yet to
double cross either. The Bird Lord's companionship has ebbed and flowed but currently is amiable though after an unfortunate accident, Plenarius
learned first hand the sadistic retaliation Vin is capable of when hate fuels him. The great bard Ozymandius wisely does not often trust him, but
does tolerate his presence. The wizard illusionist Rhynn has had a varied relationship with him. At one point he double crossed both her and the
entire group he was with for his own gain and for what he saw as the best way to further the group's goals. The man who was often closest to Vin
over the years was the elf priest of Beryl, Quillwem. Quill trusts Vin and considers him friend. Vin knows this and very likely will use this to
his advantage some day. The great wizard Rufus, though not a friend or companion, has held discussions with Vin and they often saw eye to eye.
Vin's devotion to Beryl originally was due to family ties and was encouraged in his gem crafting and early friendship with Quillwem. Over the years
his faith has waned and he has felt Beryl is not watching or caring for him. Anytime he fails at crafting a gem or piece of jewelry he blames Beryl's
dislike of him. When he succeeds it praises his own skill. His distancing from Beryl is most likely due to a schism in his own mind where he
cannot justify some of what he is becoming with worshiping Her. The further he slips toward evil, the more his faith crumbles. At the same time
he has met several Branderback followers, wears a Black Hound Belt, and has studied some of the dogma. He sees this god and his dogma as a better
fit, though has not been willing or able to make that change in his life.
//This is a request to officially begin an alignment shift for Vin Onyxshade from TN to NE. This is also a request to have Beryl removed from his
deity field and eventually, once the shift is complete, have Branderback added. I have been lax in updating Vin's CDT, though I could backfill some
of his experiences upon request. His WLDQ submission has a more recent snapshot of his life but even that is aging at this point. If this shift is
approved, I will make a concerted effort to reactivate the CDT and track his progress.
