| Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. | New Character Submission - Saith Drekan Character: Saith Drekan
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Class: Rogue
Race: Human
Alignment: True Neutral
Biography:
Saith grew up in Caesin one of the islands in the Dragon Isles north of Alindor. His father was a simple farmer of wheat and his mother was unnocupied. Saith had left the town at the age of 18 when he became a man to make a living in a new area as it was his fathers wish. Saith is an only child and set out only with the clothes on his back and 300 gold which his family had been saving up. His father had died two days before his departure and his last words were to never be too vunerable and to judge the situation based on whats going on; do what you think is the best and other people words aren;t always the best.. Now Saith seeks a new life by the sword traveling from town to town and exploring the lands. He was trained by his uncle who is an ex town guard, with wooden swords. Saith had always used a shortsword as a main weapon and a dagger as an offhand. He is literate though barely due to the fact he taugh himself to read. He lives off what he finds as he never honed a true skill or job and is a jack of all trades doing odd jobs for odd people. From his childhood he exceled at dissapearing. All the children could never find him at hide and seeks and he finds pleasure in people knowing hes not there. He finds some confrontations are best avoided and sneak attacks are his most powerful ability. He is agile and prefers dexterity over brute strength, often tumbing and rolling around in battle and parrying attacks rather than powering through. As a child he helped his parents around the farm and had always dreamed of lands other than where he lived, mainly fueld by his fathers longing to travel, but inability due to their financial situation. If they left the farm, they'd be poor; the farm supported them just enough for them to live a content life.
Description: Five foot seven with a somewhat thin yet experienced build from traveling. His hair is a dark brown with piercing blue eyes. His hair is long and often wear darks attire.
Manner: Saith is often polite on the outside, but cunning and scheming on the inside. He sizes up people as he talks to them and is often distant if he see danger in them. He is somewhat reclusive and doesn't always talk openly to others or start conversations.

| Re: New Character Submission - Saith Drekan Hi there!
Sorry again, but the Evil alignments are far more restrictive than Chaotic Neutral. To submit an Evil character (and Chaotic Evil is never permitted for PCs), you need to have been involved in the community for nine months and have a character of level fourteen or higher.
You can check the Alignment Rules for more information.

| Re: New Character Submission - Saith Drekan True neutral is perfectly acceptable.
That being said, there are a few things that I'd like to see addressed: - First, an alignment change has to be reflected by the biography as well. If the character described could just as easily be Evil as Neutral, he needs to be expanded to illustrate why he is a particular alignment.
- Second, what makes him a Rogue, and not a Bard, or an itinerant Fighter?
- Finally, which distant land? There's lots of space to choose from - the Maps of Layonara can give you all the information you'll need.
That being said, it's a good start!
Thanks. | | |

| Re: New Character Submission - Saith Drekan Good progress - I can see the support for the class and alignment.
However, I don't know of any place named "a Diego" in Layonara - please choose a location extant in the world, even if it's "off the coast of [continent], to the north of [city]."
Also, you've introduced his uncle as the man who trained him in arms - what qualifications did his uncle have to train him? Was he ex-militia? A duelist in his own right?
Essentially, what the character submission should leave you with is the ability, should he be asked, to tell another character about his history. (That being said, he doesn't HAVE to tell them, but he should be able to. )
When the above points are addressed and you've fleshed out his background a bit further, you should be ready to go.

| Re: New Character Submission - Saith Drekan I have fleshed out the bio more and added details. I mean to actually develope the characters story more as I travel the lands rather than his old life as a farm boy. I hope that he can have some sort of claim to fame no matter how small whether it be finding a job or owning a small business. | | |

| Re: New Character Submission - Saith Drekan *smiles* Developing his story is what adventuring is all about. That being said, you have to know where a character came from to know where he's going. (Though Heisenberg would tell us that you can't know where he's going and where he is at the same time... sorry. )
Anyway, after some consultation (sorry on the miss on the Deigo thing - I have to bone up on my islands!), Deigo is not the kind of island one would raise crops on. Or live on. Or, if one could avoid it, set foot on. It's basically untamed jungle, the "Serpents" who give the isle their name abound, and those creatures who do not slither are, without exception, hostile. Boats travel near the islands on an annual basis, at best, and there are no settlements anywhere in the Serpent Isles. If you're determined to have his family live in that region, the best bet would be Ceasin in the Dragon Isles. Even so, they'd have to stay close to the shore... and out of the forests.
Once you've found a more hospitable place for his family to live, post here again and I'll be there to review. | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to darkstorme For This Useful Post:

As some final advice: stick to your alignment, and find some friends in-game - Layo does not treat lonely heroes kindly.
Have fun! Edit: Addendum - do you wish your other submission (the Tiefling) to be deleted?
