Default Father Matthias - Cleric

Name: Fr. Matthias (Father Matthias) – Am I allowed to put my name in as “Father Matthias” or do I have to keep it “Fr. Matthias”?

Age: 28
Class: Cleric
Race: Human
Alignment: LE
Deity. Rofirein
Domains: Magic and Protection

Born in Prantz , Matthias was raised well by his loving mother and father (Buggor and Myrtle de Sade). He was an only child. Buggor (his father) was a pig farmer living just outside the gates of Prantz. He raised his son to be honorable, just, and by all means law abiding. The family was regulars at the Cathedral of Rofirein. Barely scraping by sometimes, Myrtle would say “Buggart ye give, and ye give to Rofie, we could have ourselves a holiday, but nay, all ter’ Rofie it goes.” Buggart would proclaim, “I love my city, and my lord protector shall watch over us for it would be times of chaos and darkness, and Pyrtechon would take from us all that we love and cherish – all that our protector Rofirein upholds through his just laws and order.” Matthias was raised in fear of this greater dark force that lurked outside the gates, so much that he would stand in front of the Cathedral urging others to donate what they could or great doom would impede upon them. He got quite creative at an early age on getting unlikely donations for the cause of law and order and an occasional tomato as well.

Pig farming never really interested Matthias, he was much more fascinated with the lay and laws of the surrounding lands and the wondrous system that upheld the city of Prantz. His mother Myrtle called him “The other golden eye” whereas she was referring to the constellation of Rofirein. Matthias came to be very judgmental at an early age, he would go as far as harassing people who would litter in the streets to the point of making them pick it up or threaten to report them to the Prantz gaurds. Some of the times he would even come out ahead a few trues for his promise not to report them. These trues he would instantly take to the Rofirein donation box. His outright demands for justice and law abiding gained him a reputation among the clerics of the Cathedral. His father was quite proud of him and urged him to pursue his dreams of serving the All-Seeing Golden One instead of that of pig farming.

Several years passed as Matthias aged into a demanding, infatuated with law citizen of Prantz. He would go to every hearing in the courts and express his opinion at every chance he would get. He had a lot of friends for he was an outspoken lad. He knew his true friends from the start but had a way of baiting those that followed a path of lawlessness. He honed this ability for one purpose...to make them trust him and tell him things and then when least expected, he would report them to the authorities behind their backs and laugh himself to sleep knowing he had brought another seditious discordant to the jaws of legitimate justice. This would always bring him great peace of mind knowing he had the power to bring about the scales of justice to judge once more the souls of the unworthy, unjust and unruly.

RE-EDIT #2
There were times when poor beggars were droven out of town for littering and loitering , having nothing to give to Matthias he made sure to get them thrown out of town for not contributing their share and quite possibly indirectly punished them to death by having them thrown outside the city gates by the roaming hordes of monsters. He didn’t necessarily feel bad about this, for he saw them as leeches, always taking and never giving homage to the growth of the city...only destroying its beauty with their foul smelling breath and body odor. But it was the way they disrespected the law by littering the streets with their rags and garbage collections that really got under his skin.

One day while wondering the least noble of districts in Prantz he came across a small girl who tried to pickpocket him while trying to peddle what most likely was stolen jewelry. Caught in the act he threatened to turn her in , he let her beg and plead a bit, this sort of wallowing usually bought a smile to his face. He said to her, “I have this problem you see. There is certain Paladin of Toran who seems to have a problem with my collections for Rofirein in the town square...he never once has made a donation and is always giving me dirty looks and mocks me while I do the work of my Lord.He even went as far as kicking over my donation jar in public....that is not Toranite behavior and something must be done to see that he losses his Paladin hood and is barred from the city at all costs.....And I simply don’t know what to do to see to it that this stops. Being a Paladin of Toran gives him a lot of leeway and here I am to suffer at his disrespect.

*The girl chimes in* “I managed to get a ring from this kind old woman...she was so old she was about to die anyhow....she was walking along and saw me and asked me if I had seen her granddaughter....I asked her what her granddaughters name was and lied and said I knew her...I told her I could get the ring to her and save her that long walk across town and that she should go home and rest up...Now, you say this man is causing you problems, well what if I could help you, if you agreed to not say anything about my little habit of stealing? Look, I don’t want to know what your going to do...you just see to it that that Paladin suffers the consequence of mocking me somehow and in some way. There must be a right for ever wrong...what you do is up to you, for I can see you are quite the cunning little fox. Oi’righ sir, *rubs her hands greedily* but yer gonna ave’ te help me out a bit with the weight of tha’ coin purse ye gut on yer thar...Why you little! Fine, here is 50 trues......just see to this matter, or you’ll be all on your own outside them thar’ gates te fend from the wolves and giants alike. Trust me.

“Quickly, there he is now, go and do yer deed, we must see to it that this one never interferes with my preachings again. The nerve to mock me and disgrace the very words of Rofireins teachings...and he calls himself holy warrior of Toran. “ *Matthias slips around the corner and watches unnoticed....*twiddling his thumbs with a worried look*
So the little girl , smart as a whip, goes and plants the ring and screams “There he is , the man I saw sneaking around Mother Henrietta’s house! The guards are there in a flash, and Father Matthias shows up with a questioning and concerned look...”Empty his pockets we must see if this man has any proof of breaking the law before we take action”.....”Low and behold, a ring, a very expensive looking one at that”.....Father Matthias kicks in,”That is Olde Mother Henrietta’s family heirloom, so many times she told me of it....I know it without question....we should go talk to Henrietta”.....(Mother Henrietta just so happens to be dead)-- (from old age I guess)....*Matthias thinks to himself that this is unfortunate because he was going to turn in the little girl over to them for being a thief with another story he weaved involving how he saw the Paladin handing over shinys to the little girl earlier that day in exchange for the ring....hence doubly serving the law without having to kill anyone....something he would never do without a life threatening reason.* “ What did you do?” “I didn’t do this! I would never hurt an old woman....well she doesn’t appear to have any bruises, but it could be poison.....however, you have her ring...that which she always told me was to be her granddaughters”...*to the gaurds* “Make sure this ring gets to Mother Henrietta’s grand daughter if you would be so kind....this man is obviously guilty of thievery to say the least...but however with no proof or blood spilled, we must assume she died of old age.” *He screams* “I don’t know where that ring came from, I never, I .....I......”

”What should we do with him Matthias, clearly you are a witness to this.....we should see to it that he is judged fairly in court....for the law never lies....may he be sentenced and thrown from town I say never to return.” If you want to know what I think.........strip him of his belongings and Paladin hood and let the world outside the gates of the city deal with him.....it would be right to give him that chance at least. Let the wild world outside of the bounds of this wall have him....then he will learn to appreciate how Rofirein helps build our stable lifestyle and why our city has lasted ages in the barbarism that goes on just outside its gates.

Later on, Matthias takes the girl to the Rofirein orphanage and admits her. You shall pray and give homage...and perhaps when you grow up you will thank me from saving you from a life of despair and thievery. Rofirein shall be the judge of that....don’t worry , they will care for you and feed you here....I will visit and teach you the will of Rofirein , who knows something good may come of you yet little girl.
/RE-EDIT #2

As more time passed, his outspokenness and generous donations to the Cathedral of Rofirein got him initiated to serve within the sanctity of the great church doing chores, washing floors, tending to the law books and such...he was ever so appreciative to serve under the Great Rofirein be it scraping scum, or discussing the loops coming undone from within the great gates of Prantz. It was within the confounds of the Great Cathedral of the Golden One that he was taught the basics of combat, etiquette, diplomacy, honor, chivalry, and healing.

Through his preachings of the laws and creeds of Rofirein he gained the respect of his trainers and only in his dreams and prayers could imagine the greatness that would one day exude unto the surrounding lands his ideas and beliefs of judgment and faith rendered unto reality. Matthias was then struck by the misfortune of chaos that he ever so feared. His mother was kidnapped in town one day and not long thereafter sold as pigfeed to his grief-stricken father who came to discover her ring amidst the rotting dried monster flesh and various tidbits of giants’ ears, toes, and guts amidst the pig excrement after mealtime. Rumour had it that remains of these beasts were a common feeding habit of The Great Czukay Zarkoln – well known resident and heretic of Prantz.....oddly enough Czukay stopped his father in town one day and offered his remains of his kills (the monster guts) in a friendly and civil manner...but with quite an evil grin in the same sense. Having no proof though could not lead Matthias to revenge for the cooking and reselling of his mother into pigs feed. In his eyes justice would reveal the dark truth behind his mothers’ death in time.

It is now the day and age of Matthias’s word, it is here I start his story of glory and his preaching’s of The All-Knowing to the common passerby and the most noble of heroes good and bad. All shall give their thanks or crawl back under their rock of insolence and weep themselves to the reality of truth in balance and grandeur or be forsaken forever in the eyes of the golden god – thee upholder of all justice, balancer of injustices, and the wrath to all that ever set out to turn the tides towards chaos and lawlessness.

I) I have read the information on Rofirein and I will play Matthias as an ever so faithful priest of Rofirein to the best of my abilities.

II) By spreading the word of Rofirein to the common folk and the most noblest of adventurers, Matthias shall have a never ending journey of his own through battle and conversation to bring about the importance of law and order through his teachings, his preaching’s, and his outright demands of the uphold of order and peace within civilized towns and lands. Through his working for the great order he so seeks shall he serve the ever so omniscient great wyrm of gold and further his connection with its understanding and virtues. Paladin and brigand alike shall all pass through the eyes of judgment and crossing Matthias’s path will help him do the greater work of his savior upon each instance in any given time, situation, or place amidst the realms of the ever so vast Layonara lands of wonder.

EDIT
III) For quite some time Matthias would let the will of Rofirein guide his hand through the use of the blade.....the long sword in particular was what he was most skilled with.....he instantly felt a connection with it the moment he was given one passed down from his grandfather upon a visit to his mothers funeral. He would invision the blade to be a claw of the Great Rofireins reach into the world...when it would strike it would strike with a passion....he learned to wear heavy armor early on....his father trained him well in wielding it and the shield. He said my son must by all means be protected...protect thy self from the injustices of the world with only the most enduring types of metal....in time you will become one with it my son. Around town however, Matthias wears robes lined in gold with dragon eyes lightly imprinted on it. He wants everyone to see his connection with his god, and know that the dragon is always watching and others watch for Rofirein....they are his eyes.

Hi there!

As Evil remains a newly-opened and highly-restricted alignment, I would like to see further details into Matthias' personality and behaviour. I have to say, I like the concept of extortion for the church. It's like a strange inversion of the Pardoners' Tale.

In addition, I'd like to see the third point in the dogma statement. (Clothing, armour, weapons.)

I will be watching this submission with great interest.

Thanks!

Ok, I made a few changes to that story I wrote earlier....Mother Henriettas death isn't blamed directly on the Paladin, but most likely will be judged as a theif thanks to Matthias' little twists he managed to weave in the report to the gaurds....(So he lies a little bit and lets the law and court deal with the rest in order to get what he wants, but never directly harms or kills or even sees the outcome of his targets fate....but his actions serve in his opinion as taking care of any problems or threats to the towns well being and stability. (In some fashion that allows him to continue preaching the word of Rofirein uninterrupted)

??? I dont know, what do think?

I keep reading this over and over and while it is a very good sub there is something that keep nagging at me. I am not sure that the planting of evidence can be seen as a lawful act. It is using the law to meet his goal but would a lawful PC break the law? The planting of evidence is breaking the law. Now if he suggested to the little girl that if that paladin over there was to be blamed for this theft then I could let you go and the little girl came to the conclusion on her own of planting the ring on him, that might work better. What do you think?

Alrighty,

I re-edited the story as per your request ( I also fixed the punctuation and mispellings...sorry about that....much easier to read now)

The changes I made are between
Re-Edit /Re-Edit Paragraph headers.....

You were right, he doesn't break the law, and he doesn't want to know about it either....thanks for the insight.....

Again, I am in no rush, if you find anything else.....lemme know...writing this story is fun!

Also, is it ok if I name him in game "Father Matthias" ?

I'm sorry, but I have to revoke the approval for now.

The evil alignment is now under discussion by the DM team. We will come back with the final decision in a few days.

Pelordaes,
This was my mistake. I forgot to post for DM approval for the evil alignment. I am sorry about this. I am sure the team will come back with a answer in a short time.

Ok, no problem.
As far as the name thing is concerned I will re-create him (lvl 4 isnt too hard to come by.....My name is "matthew" in real life, thats why i chose this one....Matthias sounded more dungeon and dragony then "Father Matthew" but if you really need me to change it I will.....

Also I want the team to know I will do an excellent job role-playing this one, I have already made several paladin and rofirein accquaintences in the game....they can vouche for me.....my Idea of lawful evil is playing a grumpy preist who asks for donations and demands justice be served to those that litter in town, or defoul any form of justice and law....my goal is to see that any characters who break the law get whats coming to them within reason. He will preach alot in town the word of Rofirein and ask for donations from everyone and anyone whether they like it or not. This is about as far as I would take the 'evil' part throughout my lifetime in game....Just wanted to shed some light on that....This chracter by no means is a Czukay wannabe.

This is now approved, sorry it took so long. There are two points though.
1. Please requests a name change to remove the Father part, that should be a title that is worked on in a CDQ.
2. If the character slips into CE behavior he will be made into a NPC.
Have fun and see you in game.

It's easier to just start a new one at level 1 again instead of going through the whole namechange procedure.

And you can put up Father Matthias for deletion then.
