| New Character Submission - Nicholas Nendawen // When referencing towns and cities, any of these may change. I have little knowledge of what they are like and if they are good candidates for what I used them for. Let me know if they need changed. Character: Nicholas Nendawen Age: 23 Gender: Male Class: Monk Race: Human Alignment: Lawful Neutral Deity: None Height: 5'11 Weight: 145 Hair: Burnt Orange (red) Eyes: Green Complexion: Not tan though not pale, freckles scattered across him yet not englufing his skin. Frame: Lithe Disposition: Walking with slight swagger and his raised chin; Nicholas emits an aura that sets the notion that he is quite confident, perhaps a little too much. He is one who will flash a smile here and there, but for the most part he has a hardened look about him. Nicholas seems to play by the rules, but keeping others in check is definitely something he does not lose sleep over. History As Nicholas grew up with his parents in Leringard, we would soon endulge himself in all the traditions of lifestytles of his parents. At a young age, his mother had him prayering to the gods for requests of good fortune. Nicholas's fater would take him to the market almsot daily and teach his son the trade of being a merchant. This enviroment was grand for the young lad, as he quickly absorbed all the world had to offer. As he grew older he become much more accustom with the way of life and started to find it to lose some of its glamour. In his early to mid teenage years, Nicholas would find himself in the sins of the world. He enjoyed nothing better than ale and would often commit acts of petty theft. At this point, Nicholas would still pray to his mother's gods for forgiveness, though he returned to his unlawful actions soon after.
As Nicholas began to enter his later teenage years, he soon became involved with women. He would play with the hearts of a few here and there, but nothing he would have considered serious. Until he met a girl by the name of Elise. He would become rather obsessed with her, and she become something he could not get out of his mind. Constantly he would attempt to spend time with her during the day, but there was a small problem. Nicholas and Elise had rival fathers, who both ran trading posts which rivaled eachother. A rivalry was the perfect description for the feeligns towards the two merchants. Nicholas had to be discret with this girl he was in love with, for she feared what her father would do. Late one night, Nicholas would decide to sneak into Elise's house to spend time with her. Not after an more than a half hour of being there, the two love birds would doze off. Unfortunately for Nicholas, Elise's father would be awakened. Nicholas never did find out what woke him up, but when he peaked inside his daughter's room, the father's voice was a crash of thunder. This spelled nothing but trouble for him.
After the incident, Nicholas would be thrown in jail for trespassing. By the time Nicholas was released from prison, that was enough time for Elise's father to ship her off to her aunt's home in Port Hempstead. Night after night, Nicholas would pray to his mother's gods, wishing for a way to claim his beloved Elise. Lost in confusion and sorrow, Nicholas only wheeps. His mother and father attempt to ignore his exsistence, for they are embarrassed by Nicholas's actions and the state of mind he is currently in. His mother, Margaret, seeks to comfort her son daily, ensuring him that the gods are testing his faith. Though the grief and anguish that Nicholas felt only hardened his torn heart.
The gods would offer Nicholas no comfort, as soon after his mother would grow ill and lose her vision. Less than a year after that, while Nicholas was out drinking at the pub, his father would be murder and his mother raped then killed as well. Their home pillaged of all goods and valued belongings. This rough life would set up Nicholas Nendawen for his new philosphy on life.
After returning to his home, and going through a rage of madness, Nicholas sat in his family's home that he tore apart. Some say he was only there for a few days, others claim it was a week or two. Regardless, the young man who has had such tradgedy, threw away more than the gods stole from him. Nicholas remained in the house, just pondering what just happened to himself. Tears were only shed for a day or two. While he did not consume a gluttonous amount of alcohol, which was the first in yeras, and fasted in the names of the gods. Nicholas began to piece together the puzzle. As he remained sober for days, he felt his sense highten, including a mindset of reason. When Nicholas noticed, that when he lacked is life of sin and shame, his body and mind reacted in a positive way. Seeing that the gods obviously had no part to do with this healthy feeling, he felt it was because of his change of life style. That is when his transformation began, an enlightenment that would carry him away from the omnipotent gods of his mother.
In this age of Nicholas's life, he began to really consider his actions in the past, this was sparked by his new beliefs in reasoning. He noticed that he only brought the law upon himself and that living a life of a scoundrel would only produce a life worthy of a scoundrel. He finally began to notice that he could not just be blessed with a life that is desired by man, but he must use the system that man has implemented. The word "Law" became a part of Nicholas's vocabulary, as he saw that they were placed to protect him even if they would hinder him in life at some point. Nicholas's aspect on the law would lead him to that of his desire to become a monk.
For Nicholas saw plenty of well to do knights and adventurers, though they generally used blades and armor to their advantage. Nicholas began to theorize that those were all advantages, as steel was not something every man would produce. The law in his mind was a weapon, that every man would fall under. For if you know how to weild the laws of the land, you will live in happiness, but if you rise up agianst them the Law, it will bring you down to your knees. Seeing that every man would have access to the law, Nicholas would not be elevating himself above any person. He would not take the advantages of a blade or spell, for he would focus on his body. A tool that every living person as access too. Nicholas concluded this after noticing his bodies response to soberity.
Nicholas would soon abandon the sins of his life and seek balance. Redemption would no longer come from the gods to Nicholas, but from self improvement. He has shift from the beliefe of faith to that of knowledge. The spiritual mindset and carefree living is a thing of the past as Nicholas has entered adulthood. Now reasoning and his own wisdom will take him to a life of bliss out of the depths of ignorance and chaos. The day of reckoning shook the foundations of Nicholas's life, and gave birth to his new persona. Nicholas's Philosophy:
-Gods have no hears or hearts for man.
-The laws of man keep the world in order.
-The only way to progress in life, is to progress for yourself.
-Balance is mandatory, with too much gluttony and lust, one will live a life of shame. One who lives a life of balance between the betterment of one's self and the pleasures of life will enjoy be pleased.
-In benefitting myself, I need not to benefit others. Though in doing so I should not bring chaos or harm to them. -Taking advantage of people is a selfish act, using only the gifts that birth and the law give us, is the only fair way to perform.
-Acceptance of the ignorant souls, not all have endured the pain to open their eyes to reason. It is not my position to open their eyes to the glory of reason, but their own.
-Remain humble yet remain confident. For when one loses either and tips the scale of balance, he is no longer any stronger than the theives and harlots.
-Emotions are stronger than Reason, but brute loses the war to the scholar every time. Acting on reason over emotions shows complete control over one's self.

| Re: New Character Submission - Nicholas Nendawen Hi there!
While this is a great start, and an interesting backstory, the path of a Monk, the ability to fight against sword and steel with foot and fist, the capability and concentration required to channel a source of inner energy through your blows - this does not come without training. Where, how, and/or with whom did he train to gain this knowledge?
Second, I see very little in his life reflecting a viewpoint that would be deemed "Lawful". Really, while you've covered his early life and romances, you've not addressed how he approached life after his various childhood traumas, save for the bullet-pointed philosophy. Just continue his story a little further, show how he developed this philosophy, and everything should be copacetic.
Excellent writing, on the whole - I'd just like to read a bit more of it.
Thanks!

| Re: New Character Submission - Nicholas Nendawen Good writing. Do keep in mind some story of who he trained with.. or how he was self-taught, for when others ask in-game. Your character has been approved.

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Have fun!
