| Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. | New Character Submission - Shado Quinn Character: Shado Quinn
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Classes: Rogue/Paladin
Race: Human
Alignment: Lawful Good
Deity: Toran
Biography:
Background story:
Shado rocked back on his heels, one powerful arm hanging down between his legs. He watched dispassionately as a bead of sweat ran down it and dropped onto the hot dry sand beneath him. The shuffling of heavy boots through beaten sand made him slowly turn his head, allowing his one good eye to regard the arrival.
To the guard he was nothing. Shado could read that in his eyes. But then that had been the case for the last ten years. Taken at dawn, dragged from the arms
of his mercenary lover, the prison doors had closed behind Shado Quinn; forger, gambler, cracksman and murdering footpad.
He knew now he had been a nothing, small time, a big fish in a little pond. A very little pond indeed had been his home town. In here, this place they called the Forge, he had known real evil, looked in the eyes of soul-less murderers, shared cells with demon-sworn and psychopaths.
Shado rose to his feet fluidly despite the shackles round his ankles and raised his face to feel the full force of the burning sun. 'Beautiful day for a man to be gifted his life again’ He commented idly as the guard struggled with the heavy bolts on the cage door. (It was custom to spend the last week of incarceration in solitary and thus provide no time for any last revenges to be taken.)
Until this week he had worked. Worked harder than ever before in his life. The prison was called the forge for a reason. Some-days Shado thought it must supply weapons to all the armies of the world. Basic weapons and armour of crude quality he turned out by the dozen. Gone was the fat of his youth replaced by muscle, and it was strength that would last, long past when he should have collapsed exhausted. Whips can forge that in a man. Gone too was half his sight. His first cell mate had seen to that: taken an eye and half a cheek with his teeth and nails, spitting blood and foam as the guards hauled him away.
As he shuffled beside the armoured guard towards the prison gates Shado smiled peacefully. A second chance, a chance to right the wrongs he had committed before, to be of value and worth in the world, to serve dutifully. He felt the shackles click open and fall away, the gate swung open, Shado was shoved forwards and out into the world. His pockets were empty and he had nothing but the rags he stood up in, but with his voice and in his heart he thanked the Forge, for the change it had wrought in his soul.
'But new beginnings need new places’ he muttered quietly, looking down the street to the docks 'as far away as possible from your old ways’. With a nod of resolution, and smiling now exultantly in the fading evening sunshine Shado headed for the docks to find the ship headed furthest and strangest.
Summary:
A rogue transformed. Relies on his old rogue skills to survive as searches for a deity to follow (I see even second class paladins must start with a deity choice in the form so have picked Toran but would prefer to RP finding a god in game) and ultimately to achieve his goal of becoming a paladin of good. Seeks to create order, rid societies of those that prey on it, particularly assassin/ thief guilds. May still be being hunted/ wanted for things has done in past. Fraud, theft, murders etc.
Clarifying after reading more: Would expect to level to 10 in rogue, then if character had developed as foresee would do CDQ for Paladin, if he/ the world has thrown me a curveball would resubmit for a different direction.
Description:
A tall strongly built man, greying hair, dark skin and an eye-patch across one eye. Neatly dressed. A charming crooked smile and a ready wit.

Reason: Clarifications part 1 probably :)

| Re: New Character Submission - Shado Quinn Approved for rogue character - will have to resubmit for CDQ with well-maintained CDT.
Well-written! Your character has been approved.

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Have fun!
