Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Default New Character Submission - Marcus

Character: Marcus
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Class: Cleric
Race: Human
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: Az'atta
Domains: Protection Good

Biography:

Marcus was born into a close knit family in a small rural village. His family like most in the village were primarily farmers that did some hunting on the side to help make ends meet. The village life without the sun had been hard and scarsity of game had forced the village hunting parties to travel increasingly greater distances to find the game they needed to survive. Since the hunters could not hunt and defend the village, they often hired mercenaries to defend the village while they were gone. Though the system had worked out well, the villagers never really trusted the Mercenaries, but could find no better solution. Irreguardless, had life continued along as it had been, Marcus would likely have followed his family and become a hunter farmer. But as the fates are fickle things, so it was to be with Marcus, he had a aunt that had taken vows at the Temple of Azatta and offered to take Marcus as a trainee. To his family, it offered the boy more then they could ever hope to, an education and some semblence of security. They accepted the offer and sent him off to the Temple. Temple life agreed with Marcus, he loved the chance to learn and the feeling that he got from helping the people that came to the temple. As he became more mature and accomplished in his studies, his aunt began take him with her as she would visit communities hit hard by the lack of sun and the upheavel that it had caused. At the end of these trips, Marcus would always look forward to returning to the temple feeling he had done his part to make the world a better place. Considered a promising student, Marcus would likely have stayed at the temple and sought a teaching position, had fates not again intervened. The day his life changed, had oddly dawned clear and bright and Marcus had been casually researching the process of making of healing potions, when his aunt arrived ashen faced. She said little other then that he needed to pack immediately, realising the urgency of the situation, he did as requested. Although his aunts demenor concerned him, he was not unduly worried as they boarded the ship that was to take them to their destination. It was only as they began to travel familiar surroundings, that he began to realise that their destination was his home village. Whatever clues he might have gathered about his mission, nothing could have prepared him for the devestation he saw as he entered the village. It had been attacked by a Gnoll war party while most of the village hunters had been away. Even worse, the mercenaries that they had depended on to protect the village had fled, leaving its occupants defenceless. It had been a massacre. Marcus and the temple party, immediately set to healing and helping people where they could and burying the ones they could not. When they had done all they could, Marcus given leave to deal with his families estate, not that there was much left. As he slowly made this way to what remained of his home, the enormity of what had happened hit him. He has lost everything, to compound his grief, he could not shake the feeling that if he would have been there, he could have made a difference, somehow. He spent the night, sitting in the charred remains of what had once been his home. His first thought was to be angry at the mercenaries that had run, then at the gnolls themselves, but it was finally himself that he assigned the most blame to. He had been so comfortable and safe at the Temple, but out here was a war, a constant struggle for survival and there were, as he now saw most painfully those who were the loosers in that struggle. With the light of the morning, he walked to his aunt and pulling her aside, told her that he would not be returning to the Temple with her. He had resolved to do what he could to prevent another massacre, like what had happened to his village.

1 I have read and understands the dogma and expectations of a cleric of Az'atta and will follow them.
2 Marcus sees himself as a healer and protector of those in need. As a follower of the Redeemer, he also needs to be open to those that are willing to seek forgiveness and change.
3 Marcus will, where possible, wear the colors of Az'atta as part of his clothing, and her device on his shield. His first choice of weapon is the longbow, with a long sword as his secondary weapon.

Some final notes on character creation:
  • Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
  • Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
  • Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
  • Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.

have fun!
