| New Character Submission - Ruby Gemcrusher Character: Ruby Gemcrusher
Age: 43
Gender: Female
Classes: Fighter/Cleric
Race: Deep Gnome
Alignment: Neutral Good
Deity: Beryl
Domains: Earth Healing
// As secondary class of cleric of Beryl, I have read and understand the Dogma of Beryl and will follow it to its fullest of my understanding
Biography:
Ruby!!...get back in here to your studies...why do you insist on playing with the boys.
... But DAD, they are going down into the caves to look for slugs...please can I go?
...No, I will not take a chance on you being found by a drow raiding party...besides, as a female of this village and daughter of a respected family, you will resume your studies in the healing arts of the Deep Mother. Then assist your mother and I in polishing the rest of these sapphires to prepare for delivery to the surface merchants.
Those boys are destined to be warriors and protectors of this village and they will need your skills to keep them on their feet......
Ruby snaps out of her trance while sitting in front of the small camp fire. Remembering the days of her youth when she was constantly reminded of her gender...So what if she is a girl...she was stronger than most the boys and just as tall...matter of fact most her age were afraid of her..*a slight grin to her face*...but father was right....she was destined to be a healer of the deep mother...the gift seemed natural. Her parents use to say that it was a gift from the Deep Mother due to the loss of their fisrt child shortly after his birth...taken in a drow raid. But why should she be held back just to polish stones and bandage the wounded.
Ruby didn't accept that though...she felt her strength and combat prowess was also a gift...a gift to be harnessed and used. It wasn't until she entered the temple during her adolesent years did it all come together. One day after she had snuck away from the sisters in one of the healing classes she came upon the temple guard barracks.....she was estactic to find a mace laying about.... she practiced swinging that mace, losing track of time, and didn't realize she was being watched. Ouch, the color sure came to her cheeks when she finally noticed the Fire Opal sitting with a smile watching her.
She stumbled for the words of apology as she dropped the mace...but the Fire Opal just held his hand up for silence...
Child, you seem to handle yourself well with the mace but why do you chose to disobey intructions instead of seeking guidance?
Well, master Fire Opal, I have always been told that as a female of the village it is my duty to be a healer...but sir, I feel as if I am destined for more than bandaging the wounded....but that seems the gift given to me at birth so I must follow it. *as she hangs her head*
Ruby, child....you destiny is given by the Flawless Diamond and no one mortal can tell you what it is...is your knowledge in the healing arts your only gift...I think not...your family is renown for the perfection in stone crafting...surely you have picked up some natural talents there as all of our kin do ....*she looks on with a somber mood as she is being scolded but then a spark appears in her eyes as the next words come from the Fire Opal*...and...I just watched you handle that mace as easily as one of the temple guardians....none of the sisters seem to be able to handle it as so.. Perhaps you are destined for more than what you think you are...I will grant permission for you to train with the temple guardians...*estatic at the words her eyes open wide*...but...*she looks on nervously*...you must continue your studies in the art of healing and further your knowledge and understanding in all that is the Deep Mother, I also expect to see some beautiful stone work from you as well.
Months passed...she trained with ferver learning to handle and balance mutiple weapons, finding the mace to be her favorite...she continue to tone and strengthen her body but found that through the purification of her body her studies of the Deep Mother came easier...as if filling the void within her with a glowing light....she would ponder during rest periods what she has become....then one day she was summoned...by none other than the Fire Opal of the temple....she went as called but nervously.
Child, it has been some time since we have spoken...how do you progress?...
master Fire Opal, my body seems pure and whole, my studies come with ease...the void seemd filled but I can't quite place my finger on what the feeling is...please help me.
*with a Grin*, Ruby, child....as with a raw mineral that we bring from the caves...you have been cut and finely polished to become who you are...the void that was darkness and hopelessness has been filled with the light of the Flawless Diamond...and now as a gemstone, daughter, of the Deep Mother...you near perfection, it is time.
Time for what master Fire Opal?
Time for you to go forth and use your skills as a protector of the Deep Mother...go forth to the surface...news has reached me that the temple in Stone has been rebuilt....but they are tending brethren that are coming to them in need. You are to go as a representative of this temple. Go to the surface in the name of Beryl and protect those that are innocent...show them the light of the Flawless Diamond.
So, she sits now in front of a campfire with basics of necessity...searching her way to the surface temple in stone to present herself to the reigning Emerald as a guardian of Beryl.
Seeing the surface for the first time though has made her nervous. Though she is considered decent looking upon her kin, she notices frowns and looks of disgust from the human folk she sees in the small villages she has passed through. She does not understand how anyone could judge by appearances as these surface dwellers seem to do. Being hesitant, she travels mainly at night, besides she seems to see better in the darkness as the light of the sun hurts her eyes.
Ruby, as she speaks to herself, do not let this change dishearten you....these are good folk just misunderstanding they are...once they get to know you all will be ok...you'll see... *she looks into the sky searching for the geode that is the Flawless Diamond*...Beryl, grant me the strength needed to pass your first test. I hear of a city that i approach and I may not be accepted but grant me the ambition to show these surfacers that I am here to help and protect them, grant me the vision to follow the path you have set before me and I will succeed in your light. Thank you blessed Deep Mother.
Her nerves seem to calm as she continues into the dark along the pathways in the wilderness, raising her hood to cover her features, leaving but a few strands of white hair dangling about. She is set with determination now to be accepted by these surfacers, though she still distrusts those that judge by appearance. She will not let that hold her back. Hempstead, here I come, Ruby of the underdark, guardian of the temple of Beryl, protector of the innocent, strength for those that seek goodness in all.....*she giggles to herself as she builds her confidence and moves along in the shadow of darkness under the pale light of the moon.

| Re: New Character Submission - Ruby Gemcrusher Hi, this is a great start. Can you show a little more on what makes this PC a deep gnome. Also can you go into her view of the world and what makes her NG.

| Re: New Character Submission - Ruby Gemcrusher As a small addendum - all cleric submissions (secondary class or not) require the three statements outlined in Cleric, Paladin, and Champion submissions. For a few other points, this submission is under discussion.
We'll get back to you ASAP.

| Re: New Character Submission - Ruby Gemcrusher addendum as requested...
1: I have read and understand the dogma of Beryl and will follow the expectations set forth to the fullest of my abilities.
2: Ruby was trained to understand the value in the prefection of a raw gemstone but the further training she has received has fine tuned her understanding to see herself as a raw stone needing to be polished to perfection both in skill and spirit.
3: As she sees herself to be a temple guardian (warrior/priest) of Beryl, she has found herself selecting the mace as her favorite weapon and striving for the best in metallic armor to reflect the strength og the earth. She will don the colors and gemstones of her temple rnking when not dressed in battle gear.
//I believe this is what you are looking for. please correct me if not...thanks

| Re: New Character Submission - Ruby Gemcrusher The three statements are great. We just need one other alteration:
There are currently two Emeralds in all of Layonara. (One of them is a PC.) Even if Ruby grew up in the vicinity of one, the likelihood of her coming to the Emerald's personal attention is unlikely. She'd be far more likely to have a Sapphire or Fire Opal taking an interest in her.
Demote her mentor appropriately, and Ruby should be good to go.

| Re: New Character Submission - Ruby Gemcrusher Sorry, i knew Quill is the Emerald of Stone on the surface. I presumed that each temple held a ranking emerald.
I have made the changes to Fire Opal as suggested...thank you

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Have fun.
