Default New Submission: Avaritia Luxur

Name: Avaritia Luxur
Age: 19
Class: Cleric
Race: Tiefling
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Deity: Shadon
Domains: Trickery and Travel

Language Ear Request: Goblin (Int will be 12, will RP her as struggling with Common for a time after until 2-5 years in-game)

Description:
The tiefling before you has a glimmer in her red eyes. Hair as black as night is parted by two, small horns. She moves with a bounce to her step, a fanged smirk parting her lips. She dresses in a more tribal manner than others around her, her body lined with strange symbols and words.

Biography:
After a long and painful birthing, a baby was finally born in the small village of Hlint. It would have been a much celebrated time for her mother and father, yet when they looked at the child, they found she was much different than others. Instead of a soft, bald baby's head, there were a pair of horns.

The mother wanted to keep the child, pleading with the hysterical father that she would be a protector of Hlint when she was older. He argued, however, that Hlint had enough problems without a beast, and while the mother wailed at him to stop, he took the baby away into the fields to leave her to die. At that time, she was never even given a name.

Death would have been certain for her, had it not been for a wandering goblin. The goblin, named Ursh, found the child fascinating. He looked at it as a kind of helpless pet. He didn't care whether it had a mother or father somewhere, only that it would be fun to take care of such a strange creature.

And so he took it home.

The tribe, however, found her useless. They named her Avaritia, meaning Greed, because of the constant amount she ate and all the attention she cried for. The chief ordered the others to be tolerant, surprisingly, having the knowledge that all of the trouble would be worthwhile when she was older.

By the age of ten, she had become a great help to the goblins. She could carry much more than them and, of course, was much more clever. She and Ursh played many games to test each other. Mostly, it was a test to remember where the greenstones were, retrieving one from each vein and catching a bat alive before racing back to the heart of the cave. Avaritia lost often when Ursh first introduced the game, and found that she was highly irritable and had a bad temper. She scared Ursh often when she grew angry, but he went any easier during the games.

Finally, at one point, Ursh stopped winning. When that happened, the chief decided to teach her the ways of Shadon and prayer. For the next nine years, he and the next elected chief for every one who was killed would teach her His dogma, and for every success, they would mark her with a symbol for each lesson.

During those nine years, she also came across the fallen body of an adventurer. He was equipped with a copper full plate and a scimitar. She was unsure of the armor, but because of the way the chief had taught her that life was meant to be enjoyed, she thought that the shine of the metal would be appropriate to symbolize optimism. Although there was never anything about weapons taught, Avaritia avoided using the scimitar until she finally understood that humans like her had no defenses given to her from birth. She began to teach herself how to fight with it due to the fact there was no other proper weapon for her to use.

It was a good idea as well. Many groups raided the caves, and although she was always forced into hiding so the chiefs' efforts would not be spoiled, pain tore at her heart over having to watch her fellow goblin friends be slaughtered. This enforced the very fact that life was fleeting, and it made every moment she was alive mean something more.

Still, as each chief changed, their treatment of her grew worse. Ursh and the first chief had died long ago, and with her towering over them at 5'2'' now, growing stronger by each passing day, they began to fear her. The tribe stopped sharing food with her, stopped playing games with her, they avoided her as if she were a plague.

As adventurers attacked the cave more frequently, Avaritia stood back and let them fend the people off themselves, even when they started calling on her for assistance. She felt that if they didn't want a thing to do with her, she had no duty for them. It hurt occasionally, as the goblins were like family to her, but she eventually grew completely apathetic. Who were they to suddenly start ordering her around?

And as she watched those constant raids, outside of the chaos of battle, she noticed something familiar with a few of the adventurers every now and then. It was a kind of sense. Not exactly a smell, but something that reminded her of a home other than the caves.

After the latest attack, she approached the newest chief to speak to him of her connection with the outsiders. It wasn't that she had to ask permission to follow them out into the cities above, but she wanted to challenge him to being a better authoritative figure than the previous few before leaving as well. More or less, it was also to vent the years of bad treatment onto him. She didn't care if he was supposed to be above her or not, she only cared that he was the representative of the tribe.

The chief, named Jak, had cold eyes. He simply stared at her until she finished her story, then accused her of having planned the massacre with the enemies, and that the reason why she had questioned his ability to rule was to start a fight between the goblins. Avaritia was stunned, and as their argument grew more heated, the other goblins began to edge closer to view a possible fight.

Her red eyes scanned the area, the demonic blood she had once held in check long ago beginning to burn. Paranoia entered her brain as the tension in the air thickened. One especially eager goblin, a newly trained guard of Jak, was eying her weapon.

Placing a hand over the hilt of the weapon to keep it from being stolen, Jak took it as a threat and slashed at her with his claws. She yelped in pain, instinctively swinging back at him with her scimitar.

That was when the other goblins swarmed over her, and just as she felt she would truly die, darkness filled the cave. The tribe yipped in fear, Avaritia herself dropping her scimitar in surprise.

Taking the chance for escape, she fled up towards the surface. Other goblins watched her with confusion, having missed the action, yet she dared not pause for them to find out what had happened.

The sunlight blinded her as she leaped out, and she continued moving until she passed out at a nearby campfire by the walls of where she was born so long ago.

After a restless sleep, she pondered her choices. With no weapon, and having not the chance to grab her full plate, she was unsure of what to do. Humans had been passing the gates back and forth along the battered paths, speaking in some language she couldn't understand. She knew enough about their culture to be certain they lived in packs as well, but in places like cities.

Perhaps, she realized, she could figure out who those strangely familiar figures were after all by traveling there, and that Shadon had granted her a new life to experience a different happiness available only to her kind.

Three Clerical Statements
1. I have read the dogma and expectations of my deity (Shadon) and will follow them.

2. Avaritia views Shadon as both a deity and a way of life. She feels that regret in general is a bad trait in humanity, and is at times very deep with her thoughts to make sure she does not make a fatal mistake in her life. Her interpretation is that, when she dies, she wants to look back and be proud of what she did. Because of that one goal she has, she rarely does anything she views as wasting her time which, oddly enough, involves ale. Although she is generally discomforted by other races due to her blood, she rebels against her nature by telling herself Shadon wouldn't care if he was a tiefling, either. Because of this, she ignores the general irritability that comes with most demonic bloodlines and instead uses that energy into trying to teach the others that life is something worth enjoying. Keeping in mind with her CN alignment, she will not go out of her way to help others see that life is positive despite any negative situation, but she would never try to ruin a life either. Her way of working is to do whatever action she's up to at the time and hope others may learn from her example.

3. Although the goblins taught her of Shadon, she was never properly informed of armor and weapon usage. Much of what she uses is based off of what was interpreted, and because of the assumption, she feels any weapon in general would work, while armor should be something that reflects her view of the world. Due to this, she wears full plate dyed bright. Her choice of weapon is a scimitar, only because an unfortunate adventurer had dropped it in the caves, and it was the first she came across. If ever she comes across the proper weapon/armor choices, she will most likely always carry and occasionally use the dagger. Outside of battle, she'll usually be dressed similar to how goblins do, wearing lighter (but always brightly colored in some form or fashion) clothing that looks a bit, well, chilly to wear...

Disclaimers
*The goblin chief teaches her only the weakest clerical spells there is... I'm sure he thought it'd take the fun out if he made everything easy for her. On actual combat, since she's self-taught, she's also not very good at it.
*She will not think to hide her horns until she's punished or told to in some way she understands. The goblins never told her to hide it, so she feels its acceptable.
*There is not one shred of nobility in her family or her demonic bloodline. Everyone is very far removed from the demons in general, she just happened to be an oddity.
*Also, the only time CN would be a bit brushed off to the side is with any tieflings. She feels that, because of the teamwork she saw with the goblins, that the same race should assist each other. For that matter, she'll be very tolerant and usually benevolent if it comes to other tieflings needing help.

//I have played for over 2 months and have a character at level 20 for the CN restriction thing.

Few edits made to explain a more proper leave at the end and also to illustrate the constant switch of chiefs due to goblin massacres. Edited to explain a bit on the disclaimers over the more necessary things not exactly covered in the story. Lastly, edited the statements to describe her ties with goblins that affect her way of worship.

Well a tiefling raised by and taught rudimentary clerical worship of Shandon by goblins is original. But I dont see the support for CN she seems more CG at this point.

Edited to show how the goblins distrust for her grew as she got older, and how they stopped taking care of her and even began to fear her. Because they completely stopped helping her, she felt she had no duty to help them or even feel sorry for them during raids. Before leaving, she challenged the goblin leader on his poor ability to lead, which ended up in a battle where her tiefling ability of darkness kicked in to save her life.

Thank you for the extra work. This is approved with the goblin ear but with the understanding that she will start with very little understanding of common. Also with the understanding that her birth parents were not of noble, powerful, or rich background.

Your character has been approved.

Some final notes on character creation:
  • Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
  • Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
  • Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
  • Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.

have fun!
