Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. Registration is fast, simple and absolutely free. So please. join our community today!

Default Coachella

(Submitting a second cause I couldn't decide which I wanted more. Thanks...!)

Name: Coachella
Race: Human
Class: Druid
Alignment: Neutral
Diety: None
Age: 35

There is not much to say about his upbringing, at least from his point of view. He hailed from a family of reasonably well-to-do-tradesmen*, dealers in fine art and artifacts (primarily obtained through shady and unethical dealings) and high-interest loans (with all of the penalties for defaulting that might imply.) He was raised in a townhouse in one of the nicer areas of Hempstead surrounded by the the finer things, was well educated and was, to be blunt, spoiled rotten, full of ego and entitlement just like his parents and siblings . He would have been set to continue the family business and be guaranteed a comfortable if morally bankrupt life...

... But at the ripe old age of 15 something just snapped. Where before he was spoiled rotten and acted accordingly, he suddenly felt tremendous guilt to be advantaged in a land where people were starving, where the sky was black and the food would not grow. He felt an inner calling to do something more with his life than amass coins and objects. He tried to express his new feelings to his parents and friends but they simply laughed and called him a fool. The rift only grew worse, until day on the way to his tutors, he simply took a different path.. Out of the city gates, off the roads and into the deep wilderness. Never mind that he knew nothing of the woods or wilderness survival (and it's lucky he did survive!), he somehow managed to make a month-long journey to the heart of the woods and what should have been a well-hidden druidic grove.

The druids would have been content to simply patch him up and send him on his way, but he begged to stay, promising to be a willing student if they would just teach him something, anything to fill the emptiness he felt inside...

And a willing pupil he was. He has spent the last twenty years or so in seclusion in the grove. The first fifteen simply un-learning everything from his civilized upbringing, only in the last five did he truly begin to awaken his latent druidic abilities. Now he is finally ready to go off on his own, as the next lessons can only be learned alone, and he faces and random direction and begins to walk...

(*Not nobles or extremely wealthy, just upper-middle class mercantile types who won't be giving their no-good son any money. In fact his furious and unforgiving father got a judgement against him from the courts of Milstone to return the cost of his upbringing and education. That debt is still pending and collectors as well as "enforcers" are quite possibly after him, but good luck getting money from a druid. )

Goals:

Coachella is not an "adventurer", in that he has no ambition to amass treasure, power or fame. Money means nothing to him, though he is not a fool and realizes a bit of coin is needed to pass through a city. He considers himself a mere wanderer, hopefully one who leaves a light footprint and a little enlightenment in his wake.

OOC-ly, he strives to be a philosopher-druid, and it may be his ultimate purpose to mix among civilized folks preaching and teaching instead of other pursuits (like tending a grove or guarding a forest), but being quite inexperienced at the present, he has more questions than answers and what he becomes has as much to do with the events around him as his own ambitions.

Personality:

Calm, always with a peaceful smile. Maddeningly so, in a "turn the other cheek" kind of way, and will respond to the worst insult with but a cool and rational question. Even when drawn into battle nothing fazes him. Getting a straight answer out of him might be difficult, as it always seems he is talking about something unrelated to the topic at hand. Of course, this reflects his two decades of meditation and teachings in the grove. The events to come as he fulfills his purpose may put this cool, collected attitude to the test.

Alignment-wise he is neutral with good tendencies, in that he has compassion and favors life and helping others (as well as opposing evil), but he is ultimately detached. He is the sort who would sacrifice a single life, even his own, for the greater balance.

The Fine Print:

1. I understand and agree to the objectives of being a druid in Layonara.

To protect nature from dire forces, to protect the balance from the excesses of civilization (first through teachings and example, other means as a last resort.)

2. I understand and agree to the rules of achieving these objectives.

He will be limited to druidic armor and weapons, to put the interests of nature above his own (including being respectful to "befriended" animals and ensuring their safety.)

3. I understand the internal organizational structure of the druids.

I understand the method and function of the Great Oak. As he is at the beginning for his druidic career I asume my limited knowledge of the inner workings of those much more powerful than he reflects his own.

Some final notes on character creation:
  • Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
  • Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
  • Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
  • Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.

Have fun!
