| Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | New Character Submission - zenthanial zim Character: zenthanial zim
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Class: Sorcerer
Race: Human
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Biography:
Zenthanial grew up in Port Hempstead. His father and mother work near the docks, as ship outfitters, making rope and crates and other supplies. Zen grew up playing around the docks, talking with many people from far away lands, imagining what life might be like outside the city, though he never traveled far.
From an early age, he knew he had "the gift", as his grandfather called it. He could feel magical energy within him, but took years to learn to channel it in useful ways. He spoke with a variety of sorcerers for inspiration, but it wasn't until his early twenties that he managed his first cantrips, shortly after the Age of Darknes lifted. His grandfather was really the only one who understood his special talents. He taught Zim that his larger purpose was to help others, though Zim is still pretty young. He's okay with doing good, so long as he gets some reward along the way.
Zen isn't much into religions, or laws for that matter. He finds his parents pretty boring, and wants nothing of the merchant life. After seeing scores of adventurers leaving for distant lands, he wants to set sail himself, using his power to gain coin and stories to tell. He's generally brash, over-confident, and charming when he wants to be. While successful with women, he has yet to fall in love. He's not even surer he knows what love is.
When not casting spells, he wields whatever's handy, usually something small. He doesn't wear armor, preferring to stand back and let others take the punishment. Above all, he wants to "get on with it". His restlnessness has reached a peak. He wants to leave!

| Re: New Character Submission - zenthanial zim This is an excellent submission - that said, I am, as is my wont, going to nitpick a small point.
Can you include some sort of anecdote/personality breakdown to reflect the Good aspect of his alignment? He sounds fun, and charming, but largely self-centred. Good characters make helping others a part of their lives - possibly in small ways, but it is always a driving force for them.
Aside from that, I see (and foresee) nothing amiss in this submission.
Thanks!

| Re: New Character Submission - zenthanial zim Alright, approved - with the understanding that characters with the "Good" descriptor in their alignment are good for goodness' sake, rather than for the hope of any reward. (This isn't to say they'd turn a reward down, just that they'd do it, reward or no. Even if they protest that they "aren't in it for your rebellion", just for the money. ) Your character has been approved.

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Have fun!
