| Nonac Shadow Wolf Name: Nonac Shadow Wolf
Bioware name: C. Pooser
Age: 18 in goblin years
Gender: Alpha Male (he lies, I am chieftain now)
Race: Goblin (adoptive wolf)
Deity and spiritual views: I follow nature, in the way that my whelp-mate has taught me. We hunt, and grow strong on the souls of the animals we kill, as well as the food they provide. Grovel is teaching me so that some day I may use their power as he does. (he’s referring to spellcasting) I respect the spirit of the lone wolf, Branderback, but I follow no gods.
Class: Rouge/Ranger even levels, possibly shadowdancer later with CDQ, etc
Alignment: NE (rangers are spellcasters, and he’s heavily influenced by grovel and the druidic view of nature and balance)
Personality: Nonac is a cruel and cunning hunter, trained in the ways of the goblin tribe, but holding an animalistic sensibility against wasting effort, food or time. He sees the goblin way of life as madness, gorging with no concern for future hunger, never putting up stocks of food. Will a panther not hide a kill in the crook of a tree to eat later? Do wolves not bury what they do not eat to dig up and finish later? He is always ready to fight, nature is a hierarchy of violence, eat or be eaten. He is not above torture, if he needs information, or if a dwarf is captured. Nonac has a particular hatred for Dwarves, all that he has met have been skinners or miners. The skinners would kill the animals of the forest and leave the meat behind to rot, the goblin tribe would be doomed to starve in the winter months. The miners would come into the caves in which goblins lived, killing entire tribes to tear the ore from the earth. He is proud, and loves to boast, he considers himself leader of the wolf pack and chieftain of the now eradicated goblin tribe to which he and Grovel had once belonged. He and Grovel often fight about this.
In the Past.............................................. ..........
In the month Famine I learned what it was to be a Goblin. The plentiful food of the warmer seasons had gotten scarcer, the meat was down to human flesh, and tough gristly dwarf. No deer to be hunted, thanks to the poaching of the trappers we ate. The litter pen became a mad scramble when the food was thrown in, whelp-mate against whelp-mate fighting for food. As the food got scarcer, some whelps were taken from the litter pen, they never returned. One day struggling for one of 12 scraps of meat among 16 goblin whelps, I had my bit of meat, (using my usual tactic of keeping alert for the approaching food, and sneaking away from the commonplace melee of the litter pen to be waiting close to the fence when it was thrown in) and an older goblin, having eaten his scrap, tried to take mine. My hands were too quick for him to grab it from me, so he stuck his hand into my mouth to keep me from eating it. I bit down as hard as I could. (this portion edited, cause i went back and read the post leanther made about gruesome content on evil character submissions, I'm sure this is sufficent to show that Nonac is not starry-eyed from his blissful goblin childhood) That is what it is to be a goblin.
They let me out of the litter pen. I learn to be a hunter. I am a quick learner, strong and quick, I soon surpass the other hunters in skill. They are jealous of me, so they don't let me lead the hunt. We raid caravans, and ambush hunters. We take prisoners, and make them tell us where others of their kind can be found. We bury them up to their necks, we feed them the flesh of their companions. We begin to learn their languages by listening to them talk, giving them bits of food to teach us words. We figure that when we catch their kind again, we will learn much from them listening with the ears of their language, where to ambush their friends with traps. The shaman, he says he has plans for me, big plans. When it was then, I thought he would train me to be shaman after him but that was not his plan. His plan came to nothing anyway. The shaman says that I must keep strong, he begins giving me a portion of his food every night. He tells me that he will make me chieftain one day, because I am smart, and can hunt well and fight. I learn to slip away, and hunt alone. I only share a kill with the village when it suits me. I keep the shaman well fed. With food, his magic grows stronger, and his influence over the tribe greater. Our chieftain is old and the shaman tells me that soon enough I will be able to take the tribe from him. Some how the chieftain manages to kill a team of horses, and he is popular among the tribe, and gains strength from the weeks of rotten horse flesh as a steady diet. I spend less time in the village, more time out hunting. One day when I return, there is a new chieftain, not from the tribe. He can turn into a wolf, but he smells wrong, not like other wolves. He ate the old chieftain. He ate the shaman. I leave the village when the others will not agree to band together against him with me as their chieftain. They say I am too young, that I know nothing. I swear to kill them all one day.
I live in the woods, I learn to stalk like a cat, and sleep in trees. I watch the animals, and imitate their movements. I make crude stone daggers. I sharpen sticks for spears, and burn the ends to make them hard. I wander far from the tribes lands looking for food, and so they will not catch me. One day I am snared in a trap. An orc has set the trap. He looks at my clothes, and knives and spear-stick. He asks me if I am a hunter. I tell him I am the greatest hunter of the goblins. He asks me what my tribe is, I tell him I have no tribe. He laughs at me. He says a real hunter would not be caught in a trap as I was. He asks me if I cut the skins I wore with my stone knife. I tell him I did. He lets me down and tells me to skin a deer he has caught with my stone knife. I skin it, I don't waste any skin. I tell him that I have skinned many great animals, such as deer and raccoon. He looks at my work, and grunts and nods. He says that I skin good enough for deer. He says he will give me meat to skin deer, meat that won't sell, like tail, head and hoofs. He will let me use a copper knife. I agree. I travel far lands in the forrest with the orc. His name is Mabisophin. I learn how to hunt again, how things that I would waste before could be used. He teaches me how to fight with two weapons, and about nature. He is a hard teacher, so I learn well. He teaches me the sweet spots in the bodies of creatures with four legs, how to drop with one arrow after stalking up on a deer. One day we see a human woodsman. We watch him for hours, till he stops working. Then Mabisophin walked up to him quiet as a cat, and killed him with a knife in one blow. He cut him open and showed me the sweet spots in a man. We took all the wood he had cut. Mabisophin laughs about him cutting wood for us. I laugh too. He trips me while I am laughing. He laughs some more. He teaches me the tongue of humans, and of orcs. He teaches me to read. I skin for him for many seasons. I tell him of my tribe, and the wolf-goblin. He tells me it is a barghest, not a goblin or a wolf, but a fiend. I tell him of my oath to kill the tribe. He tells me I must kill them all, and the barghest too. He tells me if I do that I will gain honor. Then I will be free in the world. He tells me that he once swore an oath to kill his father, and his father died before he could kill him. He said because of his shame he could now never return to the tribe. It was better to kill the whole tribe than walk in shame he said. He left one night. When he left, he left me the copper knife.
I hunt and live in the woods for months, then one day come across some wolves, but they do not attack me, they speak instead. There is a goblin with them, he is my whelp-mate, and he knows the ways of nature. I tell him of the tribe, and the trouble there. He fools elves, and the elves kill the tribe. I am glad. Grovel teaches me about nature, and balance. There is plenty to eat in the woods now that the tribe is gone.
Languages requested: Goblin, common, and orcish

| Re: Nonac Shadow Wolf Edit: Ack! Secondary account stated in submission...

Oh, before one forgets, there is a tiny age consideration here also. Not big, just a tiny detail. Because the goblin is falling under the halfling as "core race", the minimum required age would be 20...

| Re: Nonac Shadow Wolf @ Weeblie -
The Bioware account of C. Pooser is associated with the characters - Skabot Redwolf
- Rak Ramhorn
- Willy Catpaw
- Cassius
- Fr. Logan
The first of whom is at level 17 and was approved in 2005. So mechanically, this player is qualified.
Just to clarify that. This character is still under discussion.

| Re: Nonac Shadow Wolf Hi - sorry for the delay, there was much that required discussion.
First of all, you are approved for an evil character.
That being said, Nonac has a few things that need working out.
First and foremost, the submission needs more detail. It would be good to see more of Nonac's motivation - you have him as being boastful, but he seems mostly subservient. From where does he get the willpower to resist? Is the "new chief" meant to be a lycanthrope? Along those lines, as mentioned in Grovel's review it would be highly unlikely for the (mostly human) Wolfswood Rangers to let a goblin live.. let alone for them to team up with goblins. That section of Nonac's story will have to change.
In addition, the languages would require SUBSTANTIAL further justification. For goblins, Common is an extra language. Picking up dwarven from recalcitrant prisoners is extremely unlikely, and as in Grovel's submission, the Rangers would under no circumstances teach a pair of goblins Elven.
Once Nonac's story is re-worked, this submission will be reviewed again.
Thanks. Edit: As a postscript, what are "darkfire dwellers"? Was this lycanthrope communing with demons?

| Re: Nonac Shadow Wolf I changed some things you had concerns about in his biography, I think I addressed everything you mentioned.
That should fix all those points...
A Barghest is a devil that looks like a large goblin and can turn its self into a large wolf, it's a CR 4 or 5 depending on size. It can be found on page 22 of the 3.0 monster manual.
Thanks for your attention to this matter.

| Re: Nonac Shadow Wolf Seasons don't fear the goblin,
nor do the wind the sun and the rain,
we can be like they are,
come on baby,
don't fear the goblin,

| Re: Nonac Shadow Wolf Unless you happen to be the lead singer of Hawkwind, then you are rendered powerless against that submission thread add on. Those who know rock n' roll know what I mean. If you do not know, start with Elric, although the eye and hand of Vecna have a definite blood line in another of the incarnations of the eternal champion. Bwahahahahaha! | | |
