Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | Charecter Submission - Valen Glen'liss Full Name: Valen Glen'liss
Gender: Male
Race: Elf
Age: 120
Class: Bard
Alignment: Neutral Good
Deity: Ilsare
Bio:
//Before I start, pardon my grammar. English is my third language.
History - Valen's family moved to Voltrex only a few decades after the Great Cataclysm, and therefor did not suffer from the war with the Humans as much as many other elves, and while he grew on the history of those stories, his childhood was much fuller of tales of the dreaded 'Blood'. While not disobidient, he was very energetic and a bit wild - getting himself into a lot of trouble with his pranks (Today he jest that his ears got actually longer from constantly being pulled). His village was located near a Temple to Ilsare and he grew on her dogma, at some point he even considered to serve her as a cleric, but it was hard for him to devote himself to only one thing when the world was so full of different interesting things! He learned archery from the Clerics at the temple, and fencing from the guards (He viewed fencing and archery much more as graceful arts then means of killing things). He was fascinated by magics, but the local wizard agreed to teach him magic only in orderly manner, that is, if Valen would become his apprentice and dedicate himself to it. but as happened before, Valen did not want to commit so much to a single art.Valen never was sure what he wanted to be until the day a traveling bard named Koran passed trough the village. Valen was taken captive by the Elf. He told stories of adventures and heroics (and he never seem to run out of them), but what was even more magnetizing for Valen is that it seemed that Koran got to do a bit of all the things that were out there without giving up on none! Valen found his calling. What more, it was a trade that in his eyes served Ilsare, not less then her clerics. you got to spread much more beauty and love then any cleric. After few years, when he reached adulthood - he found the Elf and begged to take him as a student. They traveled together for about 10 years, with Valen sucking everything he could learn like a sponge (and unlike ever before in his life, never running out of interest). After traveling about Voltrex, Valen decided to move to the Human lands, yes, such decision would rise some eyebrows - yet the world was so big, so full of different things... and what more, it seemed to him that those lands needed spreading beauty and love much more, not to mention, perhaps a good bow-arm.
Appearance - Valen is of regular elven formation, maybe a tinge slimmer. His hair is dark and skin a a bit pale. His eyes are gray and his gaze is light. even when not particularly amused, Valen's face express a light smile that one can't help but wonder if is removable at all.
Character - Valen is Curios, Outgoig, Energetic, and somewhat Naive. He belives that most conflicts are based on a missunderstanding and can be solved if people would just talk and listen. ((OOC - Valed is probebly up to some rude awakening about that.))

| Re: Charecter Submission - Valen Glen'liss Hi there!
This is a very good first submission - there are just a few details that need ironing out.
First, unless you're planning on multiclassing to wizard at some point, the cantrips he "learned" from his wizard friend will be of little use to him; bards are like sorcerers - their magic is innate.
Second, until very recently, Voltrex was a closed continent. Leaving is still nothing to be taken lightly. Valen doesn't seem to be taking it trivially, but I thought the point required clarification.
Finally, and most important, we're going to have to have Valen's alignment listed. He sounds like he might be Chaotic Good, but you may have a different alignment in mind. Just keep the Alignment Rules in mind.
Once these points have been addressed, you should be good to go!
Thanks!

To adress your points:
1. I kept thinking about it (when writing the bio) as from one point of view you are right, bards use charisma and don't have to memorize spells - just like Sorcerers. on the other hand, a Bard is a person who learns a bit of of every trade - it is a proffession. you don't have to have magical blood in order cast bard spell, which suggest that Bards actually LEARN their spellcasting even if it might be of different nature then Wizards. That being said - it is your world I am getting into, so I abide your defenitions. I have updated the bio (so that the Wizard did not agree to teach Valen unless Valed dedicates himself fully, which he of course refused).
2. Yes, I kept that in mind. Valen is driven out by Wanderlust and Genuine desire to be where he is most needed. Also, he is young and of light nature (that is - not so much serius) and he view it in his mind like this great advanture he is set to.
3. Alignment updated. I made his Neutral Good (not Chaotic). Neutral, because while he does value freedom a lot, he does not have anti-authority feelings. and he does value cooperation and community sense.
Good (pretty obvius, I think) because he was raised on Ilsare Dogma, and he has personal disposition toward helping others.
If you have any other points, I will try to adress them as fast as possible.
Thanks in advance
P.S
I plan Valen to take Arcane Archer later on (with a good RP behind it ofc). As I understood, I dont need to mention it here, but rather later on, when it will actually be relevant. right?

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Have fun!
