Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default Boda Thunderhand

Name: Boda Thunderhand
Age: 21
Class: Fighter/barbarian
Race: Half-giant
Align: TN
Diety: (Partial to Rofirein but not a true follower)

When she gave birth to the 13 pound 6 ounces bouncing baby boy his mother was heard to scream as she gripped her husband's hand in a vicelike grip.
"This is your fault! You should never have left me alone in the forest that day while you were chopping wood! Its all your fault!." What followed was another series of screams before the baby, that was to grow into a formidable young man, was finally brought into the light of day and his wail could be heard across the camp such were the lungs on him.

There were two days in her life she rued; the day when she had been raped in the forest by a hill giant while her husband was foraging for wood and the day she gave birth to Boda. Even so she loved him just the same and her husband treated him like a son since they had been unable to conceive themselves. Boda grew up with his parents in the Wolverine Camp in Krashin. They had come from tribes deep in the wastes of the island before his father had broken tribal tradition and married a woman from mistone who worked in the camp. Their life was harsh, with all ties cut with his fathers former tribe Korda took it upon himself to teach Boda how to survive in the wilds of Krashin. By thirteen Boda stood six foot and began training with the local militia at the same time as he regularly went hunting with his father for furs on the island. His great strength and endurance gave him a distinct edge over the other boys at the camp and he was out hunting at a much younger age than they were. He seemed naturally to be able to call up great strength when required, it seemd by sheer force of will he would shoulder a burden that many men could only dream of lifting.

It was a tough and harsh upbringing but Boda's rugged personality, easy going nature, size and ferocious ability to use strength and force to get the job done helped him to be accepted amongst the people there. His skills with weapons came easy to him and his size his father explained had come from the incident when his mother had been taken by a giant. His father was nothing but honest about it and such was the way Boda grew up in his own thinking. he told the truth..not matter what it was and no matter if people wanted to hear it or not. He lact tact, he lacked the finesse of language but he made up for that in actions. If a group was going out hunting he was there, if they were going to climb a massive cliff he was there, if he at first couldnt do it then by force of will he made sure it happened such was the sheer bravado and ferocity of his raw natural strength and endurance.

By eighteen Boda could tow a wagon full of ale barrels by himself through the snow such was his strength, constant travelling in the wilderness and carrying large loads of furs for his father, constant weapon training in the camp, helping build the palisade's and cut wood for cabins and other building to be built had honed his powerful body. His shoulders were massive and his arms as thick as a mans thigh. The militia marvelled at how he could hold the biggest weapons in his hands and it appeared small. Many knew of his heritage but none would jest to much about it because while he had an easy going nature if he decided to punch someone in the mouth for a percieved threat generally they wouldnt stand for some time.

When he was 21 a priest came to the camp, a warrior priest by the look of him with a small entourage of soldiers. He came to help the camp leaders decide on some punishment for some smugglers Boda and his companions had captured. The priest served Rofirein and spent a summer in the camp with them. Boda was fascinated by the mans stories and could see the need for law and order but knew it just wasnt right for him. He was strong, he stopped fights, he loved to fight and crush his enemies but he could see how for others weaker than him laws might help. In thinking about it he thought he could do the dirty ground work and make it easier for this priest to be able to make people follows laws.

So with that in mind he resolved himself to go out and find people or creatures that threatened anyone and crush them, take their gold and then leave them so the Rofireinites could come in and establish Law and order, by then he would move onto the next area to 'fix up'. It sounded like a good idea to him. So he took his 7'1" massively muscled bulk off to Fort Vehl to look for work so he could begin his mission.

@incahootz - FYI

Quote:
The more monstrous and sinister subraces also have restrictions on what alignment they can be. The following races must start out as CN, TN, NE, or LE: Dark Elf, Half Orc, Half Giant, Half Ogre, Orc, Goblin, and Duergar. There is one exception to this; a cleric character that follows Az'atta (regardless of race) may start out with a good alignment.

Hi there!

Sorry for the delay on the re-review, but there was an issue that had to be cleared up - a matter of heritage. The keepers of Layonara Lore have confirmed that only the offspring of a Giant (Hill Giants only, for PCs) and a human can have the half-giant racial type. Anything beyond that, speaking in terms of blood, is just a large, ugly, strong (possibly somewhat dumb) human.

Otherwise, this sounds alright, though it sounds as though you simply altered the alignment and not the biography. If he has a problem with anger (as barbarians do) when affronted or denied something, that might serve to mitigate his "good nature" enough to bring him into the folds of Neutrality on the Good-Evil axis, but he still seems like a Good character with a Neutral alignment.

Once you've modified this submission in accordance to the above points, it will be re-reviewed.

Thanks!

Okay I sorted out the heritage issue and with the alignment, its all about him. He does what he wants and the barbarian aspect is the power of his anger to fuel his strength and endurance to get tasks done and such.
Hope that helps.

Thank you for the extra work. This is approved. You will need to work with a GM IG for the proper "look".

Your character has been approved.

Some final notes on character creation:
  • Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
  • Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
  • Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
  • Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.

Have Fun!
