New Character Submission - Leila Darkmoon

Appearance: Youthful Brunette, with shoulder length hair, a beaming smile, clad in tight suggestive armor.
Her eyes are a deep sapphire blue that seem to gleem as you look into them.
Clad in mainly shades of a royale purple, she carrys a whip on one hip and a long sword on the other.

Biography:

Born in hempstead from a pair of travelling clerics of lucinda, all to soon however her parents were taken from her at the age of 4 by bandits on a chance raid of a caravan she had been travelling in towards spellgard.

Run she did as she watched her parents get butchered in the name of greed, after days of wandering she collasped from exhaustion and hunger only to awake in a temple of Xeen.
By chance a Xeenite cleric had found her collasped by a tree during her travels and decided to take her to the temple as she decided she would like to have a child of her own, not caring if her parents were still alive or not.

This cleric Sarah Darkmoon decided that Leila was to take her last name of Darkmoon, and spent over a decade taking care to raise young Leila in her image, at a young age her talent in magic was apparent and influences of her adopted mother, pushed her towards becoming a devoted selfish cleric of Xeen.

When her step mother was not recovering from last nights after effects she was training young leila in the use of the longsword.
The mothers love of the longsword is mostly due to it being a weapon she had trained with all her life before she was a cleric of xeen, this is due to her backround as a bandit, who had need of a weapon that could be easily used and easily replaced when it was lost in a fight.
At one point she had landed in much trouble that she was forced to take refuge in a party of xeenites, due to her finding that she felt she belonged here she quickly gave up her old ways and started to train intently in the dogma and principles of xeen.
While she did train in the use of the whip, she had never truly mastered the use of it, prefering the strength of a blade over the finese of a whip. So she came to see whip only as a tool of pleasure and pain not death, passing this feeling down to her daughter as she followed what her stepmother told her usually as it was something she could not say no to.

Since Leila had no other viable trainers she was forced to train in the use of the longsword, but she did not mind she soon grew to love its power and grace as a weapon, so as such she spent a lot of her time training with this weapon mastering the basics of its uses quite easily, as her mother was a great teacher.

"Life is to be lived to its fullest, in decadent sensual fulfillment of the carnal desires of yourself and others." Is one aspect of the dogma that she follows quite intently, having been to many of the events most notable the night of flesh and magic, she has begun to love the attention.
She strives for pleasure mainly for herself, and will dress as provocatively as she deems necessary, not thinking for a moment how inappropriate it may be in certain situations as she strives only to get what she wants, as she believes their is no reason to cover up what Xeen has gifted her with.

Like any cleric of Xeen she actively spreads what she believes to be the gift of Xeen, trying to encourage others to worship her.
However dealing with the types she commonly happens upon she tends to spread pain more then pleasure.
This draws from her childhood, in the earlier days of her days with her step mother she would often misbehave and run off, due to her being depressed about how her parents were suddenly taken away from her.
Often this would result in a fierce reprisal from her stepmother when she returned as she was quite often intoxicated most nights of the week.
This occured for several years until, Leila devoted herself more and more to the princibles and pleasures of training to be a cleric of Xeen.
(I could expand on this more but wont due to this being a family forum, suffice to say she would even engage in self mutilation for these few years, in order to release a bit of the sadness she felt, she instead these days covers that pain up with pleasure and she selfishly takes what she wants in that regard, but more then often that pleasure is often given as a result of her getting what she wants)

Over the years she has found she has an affinty with animals, finding other intelligent people easy to understand she cant help but wonder why the animals around her do what they do and what drives them to be what they are.
She has taken time between her studies of Xeen, and alcohol fueled "Holy days" on the town with her step mother, to study those creatures of the forest and in turn has began to understand them better.

The rest of her spare time was spent learning the secrets of making good wine, while she has yet to master the secrets of making potent Xeenite wine, she can still work miracles with water, that make a rather tasty substitute, likely due to her affinity with magic she is able to manipulate the water element in ways that bring her closer to her desired result.
(Deals with fementation, distillation and brewery, more of making her a natural at dealing with it)

Having finally reached a level of some distinction as a clerical adept of xeen she has left her rather simple life in search of her own destiny, to see what else life can offer her in terms of her own pleasure.


1) I have read and taken to heart all the information i could find regarding Xeen and will do my best in abiding by her dogma.

2) In true Xeenite fashion her tastes in armor favour seduction rather then practicality, likely to be a purple hue, it will be tight fitting.
While she will carry a whip it will mainly be used for entertainment purposes rather then any real fighting, she instead favours the use of a longsword and shield as it was what her step mother taught her to fight with, and it paints a picture of being someone that is seductive yet dangerous furthering her own goals in several ways.

3) As she strives to experience life to the fullest, she follows the dogma of Xeen rather religiously, but directs most of it towards fufilling all her wants, desires and pleasures.
She will not go out of her way to help others unless it promises something beneficial or pleasurable to herself, however to those she would be friends with she would forgo some of those wishes in order to see them happy to an extent that does not interfere with her own happiness.

This is my first sort of thoughts to paper on this character concept, i have been itching to play a relgious godly type but without the staples of being good or evil as i think its more interesting to play a side that is not so black or white.

Hope thats a better effort, i just didnt want to go way to indepth with her as she has a pretty gruesome history when it comes to abuse, loss, and twisted desires.

Hi there!

Xeen Herself isn't inherently Good or Evil, so you've made a good choice for a character who you mean to be neither. That being said, remember that the thing that comes first in any Cleric's life is their deity. Leila would follow the dogma of Xeen (in her own way) absolutely religiously, by definition. A Xeenite seeks pleasure and sensation for herself, because by doing so she celebrates Xeen. A Xeenite seeks to spread pleasure and sensation to others, because by doing so she spreads Xeen's gifts, and encourages others in their worship. (Now, what she spreads might not always be pleasure...)

While you've got dogma points #2 and #3 confused, the point is still made... however, if not only Leila but her unnamed surrogate mother use, as their primary weapon, a longsword, rather than their deity's favoured weapon, I'd like to see some greater expansion as to why. (Since her foster mother is a Xeenite cleric as well, suggesting that Leila adopted it from her example still does nothing to explain this deviation from dogma.)

I'd also like to see a little expansion on Leila's devotion to Xeen's dogma and ways in her biography - how the revelry and wanton abandon made her feel, her times of worship and prayer, etc.

Finally, I assume that Leila's "miracles with water" have to do with fermentation, distillation, and brewery, rather than a magical water-into-wine transmutation. If this isn't the case... we'll need clarification to make sure it doesn't conflict with existing lore or dogma.

Hi again, iceyfire.

Expansion upon points related to the dogma is sufficient (not that more wouldn't be better), so the remaining concern lies, still, in her choice of weapons.

While Leila's choice - adopting her foster mother's weapon of choice - is reasonable enough, her (still unnamed) mother's is not. Xeen's weapon of choice is the whip - a tricky weapon, to be sure, but it is the favoured weapon of her clergy. Why would she go to the effort of learning how to use a longsword properly in combat (as the longsword itself isn't easy for the average person to pick up and use), rather than putting extra effort into the weapon that her goddess would prefer she use? Besides which, anyone who'd trained with a whip to the degree that they could induce precisely as much pain/pleasure as they desired could surely use it as a weapon just as readily.

As yet a third concern about the plausibility of the weapon choice - Leila was, as you've stated, often rebellious because her foster mother wasn't her "real" mother. Why would she then seek to emulate her weapon choice?

If you still wish Leila to use a weapon other than that favoured by her goddess, we'll need to see a more substantial and plausible justification.

Other than that, Leila's more or less ready to go. (Though, as an aside, I'd suggest that her foster mother could use a name - because you know that sooner or later, someone will ask. Is Darkmoon Leila's birth surname, or was it given her by the foster mother?)

Thanks for the comments Dark, i have ammended the parts you had discussed i hope thats enough .
While i could add more to the dogma, i feel i just want to keep somethings secret, and somethings not yet written so that i may expand on the character as i play her.

Alright.

Have fun with your new cleric - but be sure that you take Exotic Weapons as a feat so that Leila can at least wield her deity's favoured weapon. (This'll probably result in using both first-level feats for weapons, since longswords need Martial, but such is the life of the clergy. )

Some final notes on character creation:

• Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
• Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
• Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
