| Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | Shakri Hai Name: Shakri Hai
Class: Wizard
Age: 537
Race: Gray elf
Align: CG
Diet: Folian S'pae
For centuries Shakri has lived and travelled through the Great Forest and Orsgaunt Mountains of Belinara. Always a lone figure on quiet paths through the deepest parts of the forest, with birds and animals as friends. His skills with leaf and plant, limb and vine helped provide him what he needed in those long years of solitude. Very occasionally he would come to small towns or villages where he was known as the old hermit, a crazy old elf given to speaking oddly and tarrying only for a short while and occassionaly doing small magic tricks for the children. On the even rarer occasion he would climb to the mountain aeries of his own people and bring them news of the lowland paths and seek more arcane knowledge, a spell here, a spell there, only ever simple incantations he needed to get by. But even here amidst those of his own kind he had walked for so long alone he was not welcomed. This concerned him not as his realm was the paths walked by the wolves of the night, silent brothers and sisters whose padded feet often walked the same path as his own.
It was not a sudden decision to pay homage to the Great Wolf but rather a natural transition over the passage of hundreds of years, an odd accounting for the affinity for the wolves of the Great Forest.
For so long did he travel the quiet forest paths avoiding any serious threats that might come his way thanks to the aid of his animal friends, he fell out of touch with the real world until it began to impinge on his realm. Travel into the mountains became dangerous as giants infested the lower reaches and other more frightening creatures. So to did they begin to enter the forests. More and more often he would come to places that had been destroyed by fell creatures let loose in the lands. At first he hid, in caves, in dens and other shelters the animals provided. Then over the passage of a hundred years he grew to dislike and then to foster a hate deep inside for those of the outside world causing such things to happen in his quiet realm.
Another hundred years past and things grew even worse, creatures walked with impunity through the forests leaving tracks of burning trees behind them. The forest creatures were hunted and eaten by giants, humans and other races driven from their lands or homes by the demons that walked the lands. More and more often he was forced to run and hide from this danger or that disaster.
The final realisation dawned when he came to the edge of the Great Forest one day to Hilm Castle. From the trees he watched the city populous living behind their tall stone walls, the constant fear in the faces of the people living within. He did not understand why they allowed things to progress as they did. Foolish humans spreading their diseases across the world yet hiding behind big stone walls from demons they released. He realised the only way he was going to get peace in his forests was to do something about it himself. He would have to teach these humans how to drive back these evil creatures and then how to love and nurture the forest paths once more, to sit back and relish the harmony and pure pleasure there was in watching a flower bloom or a tree grow into its roots. It would mean a great sacrifice on his part and much learning himself to grow his natural arcane powers! To live amongst the humans, to speak with them, to give up the forest paths for however long it took. The sacrifice was truly great but so was his love for the forest and the creatures within it, especially his brothers and sisters the wolves.
So it was the guards standing at the gates of Hilm Castle on a grey and dreary autumn afternoon watched as an old elf garbed in a well worn robe with multicoloured hues of grey and green, bearing a tall gnarled staff and multiple garlands of flowers around his neck as well as necklaces of bones and crystals approach the city gates and demand entrance. His only words as he raised his staff to the guards could be heard loudly and with a thick elven accent by all those nearby 'Boom shanka humans, I come to teach you about the wolves and the forest paths, but I require sweet nectar first.,
An answer from the guard on the wall above was lost on the old elf as he passed through the corridor to the city proper but his comrades laughed in response 'another crazy old fool seen too much sun.'

| Re: Shakri Hai This can be approved except for the animal ear request. Being on good terms (friendly) with the animals in certain areas does not necessitate the level of communication that animal ear allows. For a while now we have kept animal ear (on PC start) restricted to the classes that it is granted to. You can, with time, learn it in game.
I will hold approval on this if you wish to discuss it further.

| Re: Shakri Hai Additionally, as it stands, Shakiri sounds (to me) very much like a Ranger who dabbles in magic. Rangers are approved with the Animal Ear. If you want to go for the multiclass, it wouldn't take too much more support to get it approved. Regardless, as Jrizz says, approval pending your response.

| Re: Shakri Hai Good points all!
I'll stick to Wizard and remove the request for animal ear!
Thanks!

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Have fun!
