Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

| New Character Submission - Kinki Character: Kinki
Age: 118
Gender: Male
Class: Wizard
Race: Gnome
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Biography:
Born Kinisuplimiousaner, he seemed a usual, cheery, rather excitable young gnomish boy. Cared for, loved, highly intelligent and excelling at his classes, nurturing a talent for the magical arts. Infact, excelling at the magical arts, at such a pace he was regarded with some awe and surprise at how well he took to it.
Full of pride... his parents expected great things from him.
Untill the house fire at the age of thirteen.
No one knew what set the blaze away, but it devastated Kinki's home in moments.
And whilst rushing back and forth in a panic, throwing buckets of water on the fire in a futile attempt to douse the flames, it didn't occur to anyone unusual that Kinki merely stood rooted to the spot, watching the fire roar and climb higher and higher, a sparkle of mysticism in his eyes which reflected the blaze.
The family reloacted to Stone, the father being called to the Temple of Beryl there and being offered a small hamlet close by to continue his work in the church. Everything seemed normal for awhile.
Then.... the small grove of tree's just outside of town caught fire. Nothing deadly... but it was the talk of the town.
Then old man Subby's fishing shack by the river caught fire not a week later. Rumour's circulated of Fire Demons and attacks by Forest Giants, brandishing clubs of flame.
A few days later, a group of Gnomes on the outskirts of stone, returning from a trading run, witnessed a terrible sight. A poor Tiger, engulfed in flame, burning horribly, running and scarpering back and forth in an attempt to douse the flames that covered its body.
Word around Stone whispered of curses and enraged spirits.
Events such as this continued for a few more weeks, tree's set ablaze for no reason, huge scorch marks found on the ground both in and outside Stone.
Then... one day.... the grain shack on a local farm caught ablaze. But... this time... a group of passing Gnomes spotted the blaze early on and rushed up the hill to view the scene.
Kinki, laughing hysterically, darting back and forth from the blaze, throwing small fire spells and flaming torch's at the blaze, waving his arms frantically up and down as though in an attempt to have the fire rise higher and higher.
One of the gnomes rushed up and dragged Kinki back, pushing him to the floor and demanding to know what Kinki had done.
Kinki giggled and laughed insanely, a strange gleam in his eyes. Then he calmed, his face became soft and gentle, and he turned his eyes to look at the fire and whispered " Ooopps!"
Needless to say, Kinki was taken to the Temple and placed in a small facility for the "Magically Insane"
He was treated well, cared for, and sedated most of the time to ensure he didnt harm himself or anyone else. Until fate lended a hand.
Was nothing monumental, it was only a minor tremor, hardly noticable by most. The ground shook a little, then subsided, minor to no damage around Stone.
But a single bar in the window of Kinki's room shifted and loosened. Fascinated, he climbed on his bed and gave the bar a tug.
It fell from its holding to the floor with a loud clunk, and with a hysterical giggle, Kinki leapt up to the window, squeezed his tubby body through the gap and made his escape.
That was several years ago.
Nothing has been seen or heard of the mad fire throwing Gnome in a long time, and many assumed he had perished in one of his fiery blazes.
But just recently, a small fire was reported outside of Mariner's hold, a single tree engulfed in flame. The smoke from it could be seen clearly from afar, and the Captain of the ship bound for Port Hempstead, just pulling from the dock, looked at the little gnome curiously, who laughed and cackled and pointed his finger at the trail of smoke rising to the sky.
But it must be said, Kinki is not a "bad" man. Usually polite and patient, with a strong love of quiet places and woodland. Highly intelligent, and with a strong grasp of the Weave, although his time in the Temple's Asylum has made him rusty.
It is just a shame about his uncontrolale urge to burn and set ablaze to anything which takes his fancy.

| Re: New Character Submission - Kinki Before approving this I would like to ask one question. A PC with a quirk is fun to play indeed, but playing a PC with a deep psychological issue never turns out well for the PC or the player. I dont know much about pyromaniacs and the psychology of what drives them so I am not sure if it qualifies as a deep issue. Can you give your thoughts on how you intend to play out this aspect?

| Re: New Character Submission - Kinki Much like others with psycological issues... the vast majority of the time, the deep problem with them is never noticed. Pyromaniacs.. Serial killers... all have always been dubbed with the slogan " But they seemed so normal."
The vast majority of the time, Kinki will simply be played out as a standard gnome.
But when confronted with, or required to use, any aspect of fire... is when his chaotic side will come out. He will basically.. be unable to help himself from setting or unleashing any form of fire once a certain stimulus ( being made angry, or being confronted by some form of wild and uncontroled fire) has been applied.
This will range from igniting static objects, the flinging of fiery spells... and will likely cause some ( pre-checked with he other party of course) form of PvP from certain characters who may disagree with his methods... or who... again depending on circumstances... he may cast fire spells on.
But the majority of the time, without the stimulus of seeing fire or being made angry, he will be a typical, bubbly, fast talking gnome.
Thanks

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Have fun!
