Default Re: New Character Submission - Rego

Hello there, and welcome to Layonara!

Unfortunately, your submission violates (or treads upon) some of the rules pertaining to character submissions. Please read the rules on Restricted Multiclassing - through ill luck, you've managed to hit two of the three restricted classes in your submission! Please also read the Guidelines for Character Submissions - among them, the fact that Prestige Classes cannot be applied for at submission. Shadowdancer will have to be removed from your submission, after the restricted class collision has been resolved.

In addition to this, we require somewhat greater support for classes in a submission. While you have the beginnings of support for the Druid class in your submission, you've no support for your other two proposed classes. In addition, we require a little bit more for Druid submissions than for the more mundane classes (Fighter, Rogue, etc.). Please read Druid Submissions and the Druid Information page for the rules pertaining to Druidic submissions.

There are, unfortunately, also a few lore-related misconceptions within your bio itself. A seven-year-old dwarf is barely past being an infant; how did he survive, on his own, abandoned in the woods? If goblins were pursuing his parents, how did they not find him?

Finally, a first-level druid has no ability to take on any form but his own, so this would have to be removed from the submission. He might feel a kinship to animals, but the ability to become them is the auspices of more powerful (higher-level) druids.

Once you've made your alterations to this submission, post again to this thread. If you've any questions, you can ask them here, or in the Ask A Gamemaster forum. I hope this helps!

Thanks!

Biography

As a child Rego was abandoned in a forest by his parents when they were running from a horde of goblins. Regos parents never returned to see if there son had survived, in fear that they might run into goblins again and so they never returned even though Rego was there only child.

For 33 years Rego lived in the forest were he was abandoned with no knowledge of his family. After living in a goblin infested woods eight years, he began to realize that the animals of the forest were protecting the section of the forest that he was living in. Rego has no idea why the animals would protect an outsider, so he tried to understand the animals and attempt to speak with them. Rego dreamed that he would someday be able to understand the animals and repay them for what they have done for him, and for all the years they had protected him for the goblins.

For the next 25 years he tried to understand the animals and aid them in anyway he could. When Rego turned 40 the goblin which inhabited the forest decided that it was time they removed the animal hazard from there forest. So they set the section of the forest that Rego lived in upon fire. Rego had to decide to fight with the animals and protect them himself or, to run and get help to save his friends, he decided that he would run for help. Rego arrived at the nearest settlement in half a day, although he found help there it was to late for his friends as the entire section was burned to the ground. So Rego decided to head out on a journey, to find someway to prevent this happening to any other poor forest and its inhabitants.

While this is better, I must again ask that you read both Druid Submissions and the Druid Information page for the rules pertaining to Druidic submissions. In addition to requiring more depth of detail from Druid submissions the Druid statement listed on those pages must be included in a Druid submission in order for it to be approved.

Here, too, are some previously-approved Druid submissions, to give you an idea of what we're looking for:
Hopefully, these will give you some ideas. Once you've further fleshed out Rego's character, post again to this thread, and it will be reviewed again.

As an aside, another question remains from Rego's story as it stands. After thirty-three years in isolation, can Rego still speak Common or Dwarven (and if so, how?)?

Thanks!

As an additional note, a good way to flesh out a biography is to read it over, and look at the questions it leaves unanswered. If you don't think the answer will ever be important (something someone might ask, or Rego might think about, talk about, or react because of), then you can leave it be, but if not, write those details into the biography. For example: Rego was abandoned because his parents were fleeing goblins. Why were the goblins pursuing them? Why were his parents willing to give up their only child to gain ground? These and other questions can help you guide the creation process, until you have a truly well-developed character.

Rego Sarkanyok
Age: 40
Classes: Druid

Biography

As a child Rego was abandoned in a forest by his parents when they were running from a horde of goblins. Regos parents were running from goblins because when they went to get firewood they made a wrong turn and ended up deep inside the forest when they realized they were lost do they turned back thought they just went deeper into the forest. Half a day later they walked into a tribe of goblins, the goblins chased after them thinking that the dwarfs were there to attack there homes although they were just there to find firewood. Regos parents decided to run for it after running a short time they noticed that the goblins had almost caught up with them so they choose to leave Rego behind and maybe he would survive so they hide him inside a hollow tree and they continued running hopeful that there son might survive. Regos parents home was within an enchanted forest with moves as time goes on, which has caused them problems for years although they never knew that the forest moved they just thought that they have no skills at remembering landmarks or reading maps.

For the next 18 years he tried to understand the animals and aid them in anyway he could. One day soon after Rego to turned 33 a small group of goblins escorting a dwarven prisoner, he seemed a bit insane as he was talking to himself although Rego could scarcely understand what he was saying. Rego thought that if he saved this old dwarf that he might tell him about this strange forest so Rego attacked the small escort of goblins the goblins were untrained as they were just having to take the dwarf prisoner to a different settlement as young Rego killed a few of the goblins before they ran off. The old dwarf seemed grateful that Rego saved him but Rego couldnt understand a word the dwarf said because of living in the forest for so long he had forgotten how to speak dwarven or common. So Rego tried to tell the dwarf to follow him to where he was living. The old dwarf was wise and new that Rego wanted him to follow when they arrived at Regos home the old dwarf tried to teach Rego dwarven.

After 4 years had pasted the old dwarf named Gkurc Goodfire, Gkurc was an old teacher of languages to dwarfs Rego now could understand Dwarven and Common. 2 years later Gkurc pasted away the last thing he gave Rego was a the name Sarkanyok which he meant. sadly at this moment the old dwarf passed away so Rego kept this strange last name in honor of his master.

Druid Agreement:

1. I understand and agree to the objectives of being a druid in Layonara.
2. I understand and agree to the rules of achieving these objectives.
3. I understand the internal organizational structure of the druids.

Default Re: New Character Submission - Rego

Hi again, Forgotten! (Rest assured, your name is not at all apropos - this latest submission just took some thinking, and I was already up late last night.)

First, let me say that this is much improved. Rego is far more believable, and better fleshed-out.

That said, there are two things I'd like to see addressed before he can be approved.

First and foremost, there is no enchanted forest that shifts its location as time goes on. There are several forests in which it is easy to get lost, but few where local inhabitants can't find their way around. (Presumably, the goblins wouldn't chase a pair of interloping dwarves for days.) There are trees that will yank their roots from the ground and walk around... but those are Treants, and most of them aren't very friendly.

Aside from that, I'd like to see a little more development of Rego's druidic side. From Druid Information, we gain much information on what makes a Layonaran Druid. First among this is a connection to nature, whether inborn, nurtured, or arrived at through an epiphany. While I can see that Rego is grateful to the animals who, for whatever reason, protected him, I see little of this connection evidenced. Learning the ways of the woods and talking to animals could just as well be a Ranger as a Druid. You might consider adding a paragraph or two of how he found his Animal Companion - as this could simultaneously add dimension to the playable character (and companion) and give you a chance to demonstrate that connection to nature.

Again, this is much improved - we just need a little more for this ever-so-complicated class.

Thanks!

Biography

As a child Rego was abandoned in a forest by his parents when they were running from a horde of goblins. Regos parents were running from goblins because when they went to get firewood they made a wrong turn and ended up deep inside the forest when they realized they were lost do they turned back thought they just went deeper into the forest. Half a day later they walked into a tribe of enraged goblins, the goblins chased after them even thought they were harmless and just trying to find there way back home. Regos parents decided to run for it after running a short time they noticed that the goblins had almost caught up with them and the goblins didnt seem like they were going to give up anytime soon so they choose to leave Rego behind and maybe he would survive. So they hide him inside a hollow tree, as they continued running hopeful that there son might survive they had no idea were they left him. Regos parents noticed that the goblins has stopped the chase them when they were got close to there home. After a few hours Regos parents headed back to find there son, after hunting for the tree where they had left there son until sundown they still had no luck with finding there son. The next 2 days they found nothing of there son on the 3rd day they came cross a goblin scout followed they tried to capture the goblin but when they got close they saw a raiding group of enraged goblins. So Regos parents ran again but this time to warn there town of the goblin assault they told the town guard with little time to spare. The town guard prepared a defensive line where the goblins there going to attack from but the goblins were to overwhelming for the town defenses to stop. The goblins killed everyone in the small town were Regos parents lived and after looting all the houses they burning the town.

For 33 years Rego lived in the forest were he was abandoned with no knowledge of his family. After living in a goblin infested woods eight years, he began to realize that the animals of the forest were protecting the section of the forest that he was living. Rego has no idea why the animals would protect an outsider, so he tried to understand the animals and attempt to speak with them. Rego dreamed that he would someday be able to understand the animals and repay them for what they have done for him, and for all the years they had protected him for the goblins.

For the next 14 years he tried to understand the animals and aid them in anyway he could.
When Rego turned 29 he was outhunting for a meal he came across a large wolf with many battle scare but the scare over the left eye of this wolf caught Regos attention the eye of this wolf was golden Rego soon noticed that the wolf was looking straight at him, in an instant the wolf attacked Rego leaving the corpse of a large bear that the wolf was feeding on. As the wolf attack Rego noticed that the golden eye never moved or lost focus, when the wolf had Rego on he ground the wolf turned around and walked off as though it has mistaken him for someone different. Two days later Rego walked into this wolf again, Rego was about to turn around again the wolf attacked him again Rego saw the golden eye and how it focused on him and yet never moved. Rego was on the ground again but Rego noticed something the wolf was young only a pup yet the wolf was huge for its age it seemed that the wolf was playing with Rego.

One year later Rego hadnt seen his friend the wolf for a few weeks so he went out looking for him, Rego came across a goblin trap so he followed the goblin trail Rego found a small goblin camp and saw the great black wolf with golden eyes within a cage that had seemed to have been brutally damaged by the wolf and the door was almost broken thought the wolf has stopped because he had realized that if he broke the cage the goblins would most likely kill him. There were 15 goblins in the camp Rego remembered that this wolf was an expert with its fangs and could easily kill 8 goblins though Rego never was to good with weapons so Rego might hold off 2 so there would be 5 to many for them. Rego looked at the camp again and saw the golden eye once again was watching him, the goblins saw Rego hiding in the trees and began to fire arrows at him lucky for Rego he could hide behind the trees. After a few moment of arrows raining down around him he heard a howl this howl made Rego tremble in fear then he heard the screams of goblins so Rego looked around the tree and saw 12 goblins ripped to shreds on the ground the last 3 were running Rego saw that the cage was empty. Rego was shocked that such a playful young wolf had such force and ferocity held within when the wolf returned moments later carrying a goblin in its jaws Rego didnt no what to do should he run or stay but would the wolf attack him next. Rego choose to stay because for the last year this wolf had never shown such rage when the wolf saw Rego its personality changed from a raging hellhound to a sweet puppy, reminded Rego of when he first saw this wolf standing over the corpse of a massive bear that had been ripped to spreads like the goblins before him. The wolf changed when it was around Rego thought he didnt no why the wolf was like this.

2 years later Rego and his wolf lived together looking out for each other like family Rego had forgotten that his beloved wolf was born for killing and with fangs the craved blood though Rego never liked the death of innocents, but Rego had lived in a forest were you eat or be eaten his wolf took this to the next level. Rego had began to train the wolf the only use its rage when it was a life or death situation. Regos large puppy now had grown into colossal wolf with fangs which called for blood though Rego has been trying to save this wolf from itself its own rage.

One day soon after Rego to turned 33 a small group of goblins escorting a dwarven prisoner, he seemed a bit insane as he was talking to himself although Rego could scarcely understand what he was saying. Rego thought that if he saved this old dwarf that he might tell him about this strange forest so Rego and his wolf attacked the small escort of goblins the goblins were trained as they were to take the dwarf prisoner to a different settlement as young Rego and his wolf killed a few of the goblins before they ran off Rego was pleased with his wolf as it didnt demolish its targets.

2 years later Gkurc pasted away the last thing he gave Rego was a the name Sarkanyok which meant. Sadly at this moment the old dwarf passed away so Rego kept this strange last name in honor of his master even though Rego had no clue to what it meant after Rego now could talk in dwarven and common he named him wolf Fenrir that meant giant wolf.

When Rego turned 40 the goblin which inhabited the forest decided that it was time they removed the animal hazard from there forest. So they set the section of the forest that Rego lived in upon fire. Rego had to decide to fight with the animals and protect them himself or, to run and get help to save his friends and family, he decided that he would run for help Fenrir choose to follow him friend to find help. Rego arrived at the nearest settlement in half a day, although he found help there it was too late for his friends as the entire section was burned to the ground. So Rego decided to head out on a journey, to find someway to prevent this happening to any other poor forest and its inhabitants.

Rego followed the path of a Druid because he had no strength and never had much skill with weapons so he tried to find a different was to defeat those who tried to hurt the ones he loved in such he began out on one more journey to learn more about druidic magic and at his side was his loyal friend Fenrir.

In the town Rego first arrived at people seemed to stair at his and seemed to fear the huge black wolf when ever Rego talked to people they would be shacking if Fenrir barked the people would run off and also people seemed to have a hard time pronouncing his last name that his teacher gave him so Rego only told those who were close to him his last name witch was rare because Rego was a child who love silence and tranquility he saw no need for the mindless chat of those around him.

Druid Agreement:

1. I understand and agree to the objectives of being a druid in Layonara.
2. I understand and agree to the rules of achieving these objectives.
3. I understand the internal organizational structure of the druids.

Default Re: New Character Submission - Rego

*chuckles* Such is often the case. The path of the druid is never an easy one - even in submission!

A few quick notes:
  • Fenrir's "golden" eyes will have to be yellow - figuratively described as gold, certainly, but not metallic.
  • A druid's animal companion is reasonably intelligent for their species, but retains only animal intelligence. While Rego might ascribe the fact that Fenrir had not yet broken from his cage as hesitancy due to a knowledge of consequences, it would more likely be simply a matter of motivation (helping his friend.) Regardless of how you wish to play it, Fenrir can only be of high-end wolf intelligence, under Layonaran rules.
  • It's assumed (by the character approvers) that after the fire, Rego would have found out about the hiearchy of Druids, and likely would have been informed of it by the same individuals who would have taught him the basics of how to harness nature to use druidic magic.

With those points in mind...

Some final notes on character creation:
  • Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
  • Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
  • Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
  • Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.

Have fun in-game!
