Character Approvals The characters on this board have been approved by a GM and may be played online, in the world.

Welcome to the Layonara forums!

Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.

Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.

After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.

There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.

We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. Default New Character Submission - Cersie Alorian

Character: Cersie Alorian
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Class: Wizard
Race: Human
Alignment: Chaotic Good

Biography:

Name : Cersie Alorian
Age : 22
Diety : Brought up follower of Aragen but has never fully committed herself.
Alignment : Chaotic good

Cersie is 22 years of age and ready to leave her books and family home and begin to carve a life for herself. Studying the Arcane she has managed to master a few spells and cantrips with relative success. Unsure where her life is going she feels the only way to discover her true potential is to experience life for herself.

Always careful of what she says and never quick to reveal much about herself unless it is to her advantage.

Cersie Alorian is the third daughter in a family of seven with three elder brothers and two sisters. Her mother left the family when she was ten years of age and her father never speaks of why she left.

Concerned now with making a name for herself and perhaps one day learning the truth of her mothers departure.

Generally of good nature and would not intentionally harm someone to get what she wants, however because she has had a sheltered life even she may not know what she is capable off.

Now is her time to pit her wits against the world and soon discover if she has what it takes to succeed. Or wilt into obscurity.

Hi there!

This is a great start to a submission, and we don't need much more out of it.

There are just a few small things we need to see, and then Cersie should be ready to go.

First, just an acknowledgment from you, the player, that Cersie's heritage is not in some way privileged (by virtue of royal, noble, or deific blood), given her mother's abrupt and unexplained disappearance.

Second, just a little bit of expansion about her training as a wizard. An additional paragraph expanding on this part of her life would easily suffice.

While that's all we need to see, I might suggest a few other small points that, if fleshed out, might make Cersie into a somewhat more well-rounded character.
  • Where is she from? (You might use the Maps of Layonara to your advantage here.) It's almost certain that this will come up in conversation with traveling companions at some point, and not having a birthplace in mind can be tricky.
  • From birth to age 12, Cersie would've been born into a world shrouded by darkness. In 1402, when Sinthar Bloodstone was defeated, a large section of mountain range was caught up in the explosion that accompanied his death throes. The resulting ejecta darkened the skies for nearly eighteen years, bringing with it all of the usual side-effects of nuclear winter: global decreases in temperature, crop death, famine, population decrease, internecine fighting, and despair. In 1420, a group of adventurers found a way to clear the skies once again. How did this affect Cersie as a child? How did the darkness affect her family, with so many mouths to feed?
  • Who in her family worshiped Aragen, and why?
  • How did she first get introduced to spellcraft?
  • What, in fact, did her parents do for a living?
  • What motivates her? Simply making a name for herself? Aiding others? Acquiring power?

While none of these details are required, part of the process of character approval is to help you better flesh out your character before she first steps in-game. Answers to these and other questions, woven into the tapestry of her biography, can make the difference between an interface to the world, and a character in her own right, with her own wants, needs, and desires.

Regardless, once you've updated your biography with whichever of the above points you wish (except for the first two, which are, of course, required), post again to this thread and it will be reviewed again.

Thanks!

Born in the Phal her Father worked the grounds of a local noble family and her mother would remain home to care for the family. This was often the cause of many arguments between her parents for often she would hear mother claim he was capable of more. Cersie had never known what what the sun was and her mother would often tell her about the gifts of the sun. She would often tell them how her hair was once golden and her skin would go golden brown. However because of the darkness her hair had darkened and her skin had gotton pale. Her mother would tell them that one day they will see the sun again and will know of the gifts it brings.

Cersie's mother would tell stories about witches and wizards and the spells magics they could wield. These stories enthralled Cersie and would often ask if she could become a Witch. Her mother would often tell her that she would bewitch those around her with her beauty because she was kissed by fire. Cersie took after her grandmother and she had deep red hair and pale skin. Her mother would tell her that when she was older she would have to be careful when the sun returned for those kissed by fire have delicate skin. That if they linger in the sun to long they will go as red as there hair all over.

When her mother left them it took cersie nearly four years to accept that she was not going to return. It had become a taboo in her family and her father would not brook any questions as to why her mother left, but told them it always it was out of love for them. That was all that was ever said of it.

When cersie turned 14 her father was given a new position for the family he worked as a junior clerk and helped managed the finances. This meant he was paid a more generous wage and in turn for his loyality over the years his eldest sons were able to undertake further eduaction paid for by the nobles.

Cersie however had never given up her dream of becoming a mage and begged her father to let her learn of magic. Eventually he waverd and sent her to a local Wizard called Jorinth Morand. Jorinth was a simple Wizard who had travelled and settled down in the town and had been known to take on apprentices who showed potential. It was known he was retiring soon and that he was charged a reasonable fee.

Securing her place with Jorinth who was himself a follower of Aragen and at times would preach about his beliefs to Cersie she developed a passing interest but had never truely committed.

On her Nineteenth birthday her final test came and she as with a gleaming smile of accomplishment he awarded her the title of apprentice mage. He told cersie he had taught her all he could and it would now be down to her to advance and further her knowledge in the arcane. Jorinth proud of what would be his last apprentice threw a party for Cersie and it was both a celebration of her nineteenth year and success as an apprentice.

She decided on that night she would depart her home on her twenty second day and use the remaining three years to gather enough coin to establish a means to set out into the world and discover her true potential.

ps just to avoid any ambiguity when I say she has been kissed by fire, its just a nicer way of saying she has red hair

Thank you for the extra work!
Your character has been approved.

Server address is west.layonara.com
Password is layoplayer

Some final notes on character creation:
  • Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
  • Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
  • Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
  • Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.

Welcome Cersie to Layonara!
