Default New Character Submission - Weston Addams

Character: Weston Addams
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Class: Cleric
Race: Human
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: Beryl
Domains: Trickery Healing

Biography:

Appearance:

Westons stands roughly 6' 3 and 200 lbs. He has hazel eyes and white blond hair. His skin is tanned from working many years in his fathers fields haversting crops. Weston's features are nothing to boast about nor is he one that you screw up your face to look upon. He has a fun personality and many times has been accused of pulling pranks on other villagers in his home town. But, Also there is a serious side to him filled with his responsibilty that he has to care for his family and his village.

Biography:

Weston, for his all his short life, lived in the the coastal town of Lan's Port on Alindor with his mother, Rena, and father, Jacob. Being merely farmers and harvesters they were not a rich family, atleast not with trues, but they had a large wealth of love and respect for each other.

During the Dark Ages of Layonara Jacobd and his family struggled. Jacob worked tirelessly on the fileds in hope to regain the once rich soil. But still with no sun to enrich the plants with life the earth died and just when Jacob had given up hope that the sun and his way, his family's way of life would ever return...... hope came. The once demolished town of Stone was being rebult and they needed workers to help in its rebirth.

At the the age of 13, Weston and his father were hired on to help rebuild the town of Stone. Weston being still a small boy just helped clean up the work sight and move dirt around. It wasn't a fun or exciting job , but it gave him a since of pride for what he and his father had come to do.

During his time in Stone, Weston met a couple of deep gnomes who were fluent in the common tongue and they quickly became friends and together they would play tricks on the workers there, taking hammer and nails and setting them next to another workers station or one of the gnomes casting a spell over Weston to make him invisible. There he would walk around carrying a pick axe (really more like dragging) around issuing low moans and wails. Watching the workers fly up ladders and running into half completed homes was cause of much humor. (atleast for the friends). When not working or goofing off he would questions his friends about Stone and Beryl and quickly grew fond of the god listening to stories of bravery of her children and the churches priests. They talked a lot about what is was like in the deep and how you had to remain hidden and quick witted to out smart the stupid dark elves and deep dwarves. Some of the friends even told tales of adventures they have had barely escaping a a drow raid or out-smarting a group of them. Weston knew mostly these were full of post but, he still thought the stories made for great entertainment throughout the long cold nights of Stone.

Soon though those late night stories turned into lesson for young Weston. The deep gnomes who he had made friends with began teaching him their native tongue. Countless hours at night he spent learning their language and this went on for two years until he was comfortable in speaking it to other deep gnomes other then his friends. Before long the lessons Weston was learning to speak deep gnome were coming to the end and his friends began teaching him more about Beryl and her religon. They discussed their passion of gem's and metal work, how that one must strive to prefection with ever piece of jewelry they made and that you are never finished perfecting one piece of jewelry.More and more they talked of Beryl and spoke to Weston with conviction about taking calcualted risk and sometimes the best thing to do is to hide rather then fight. If it was just weston's friends passion about their goddess or something more at that time he couldn't say, but he felt a bond between him and Beryl and he had a dire thirst to know more.

At first Jacob did not see a problem with this thinking his son deserved to know more about those he was helping. He even encouraged his son to learn the deep gnomes language. But, once it became apparent to Jacob that the gnomes were trying to bring Weston to their faith Jacob became more guarded over his son not allowing him to spend time with his friends and keep him busy helping him rebuilding houses and clearing out debri. However, Weston was filled with vigor of learning that his over protective father would not stop. If an oppurtunity came upon him he would use it to slip away undetected to find his friends and to learn more of Beryl. He knew that when he returned he would be able to bluff of where he went off to for Weston was quick witted and ready with a belivabe story. But even the best liar is bound to get caught and so it was with Weston and his father scolded and punsihed him servely, but something inside him drove him to learn more, to him it was a calculated risk worth taking.

This went on for five years and once the town and temple was rebuilt Jacob and Weston who had reached his 19th birthday returned back to Lan's Port to stay and return to their real lives. Jor Jacob it was a relief to be done and headed home to his hopefully fertile fields, for Weston though he was filled with great sadness knowing that he and his friends my not never see each other again. For he was sure his fatehr was going to keep him busy in the fields to help him forget his bonds with the deep gnomes and their goddess.
To Jacob, their was just something strange for a human to worship a lesser race and god.

After two years everything seemed to return normal for the Addams family, Weston and his father returned to harvesting the once dead fields and his mother preping meals and doing the house choirs while they were gone for the day. That is until one day when one of his friends came to Lan's Port looking for Weston. He told him how that many deep gnomes were turning up at the temple gravely injuried and the churches need of assistance and Weston being one few people that knew the deep gnome language. The friend rushed off to see if Weston could help. Weston feeling great compassion for his friend and his kin devised a plan in the night. He would sneak out leaving a note. He thought this best, since there was no time to argue with his father or mother. So with a note filled with his apoligy's and love for his parents Weston left with all speed to the temple at Stone.

Once he reached Stone and entered the temple he had was horrorstruck with the amount of gnomes that had been injured. He was quickly ushered into the back chamber to see to the lesser injured deep gnomes. There he helped healer dress wounds and talk to them to find out what other injuries they might have that couldn't be seen. Tiredless he worked throughout the next days learning how to treat certain wounds as much as possible until the preist could come and attend to them.

Still the gnomes came to the temple seeking aid and sanctuary. Every once and a while Weston would try to persuade the gnomes to talk to him to find out what is going on in the Deep, but even if he knew the language they saw him as an outsider and would not tell him of their plight. Still he did not care knowing that soon they would consider him one of them, they would see his worth even if he had to sweat blood to prove it. Just as the deep gnomes would worked to perfection the gems and jewelry so would he work to prefection to heal their wounds.

As the months passed the gnomes did notice and soon they considered him an equal for he had worked relentlessly seeing to their kin and showing kindness to them. So moved by his devotedness that they approached him and asked him if he wanted to join the faith of Her Perfection. So overjoyed by their request he fell to his knees. He knew in his heart and mind that this is whatt he wanted more then anything.. He believed in Beryl and her children and their beliefs.

So Weston Addams joined the faith in a small ceremony and there he knelt down and prayed with all his heart for Beryl's guidance and inner light.

1. I have read and understand the dogma of Beryl and will follow the expectations set forth to the fullest of my abilities.

2. Weston understands in his five years with the gnomes the value in the prefection of a raw gemstone but the further he is understanding that he is raw mineral needing to be polished to perfection both in cunning and faith. Weston will seek out perfection in his craft to honor the Deep Mother and to craft perfection in his art. To bring perfection to the world to him means two things.. For one to spread her influnece to other cultures and people. "To bring Her Perfection to the world." Two, It is to perfect himself spiritually, to be intuned with her will and judgements. Weston will use his wits not strength or go within the law to help those that are in need.

3. Weston will follow the codes and edicts set forth by the church even though he intends not to be a warrior priest, But if forced to defend himself he will use the clergy's chosen weapon, the mace. He will wear bright colors to radiate his faith and beliefs on to others while in towns and in other public places. As for travel he wear dark colors to be unseen as his brothers in faith did to travel to the depths of the Deep.

Hi Tobias!

This is clearly a long-thought-out and well written submission. That said, there are a few points I'd like to take a quick look at before approval.

First, right up until Weston was 13 - the year he and his father were hired on to help in the rebuilding, in fact - Layonara (as you know) was in the Dark Ages. As farmers, then, they'd be barely subsisting, if that! The chance of being hired on where they could actually be fed would likely seem a lifesaver. If their farm wasn't failing... why wasn't it?

Second (and this is a minor point), Layonara no longer has svirfneblin. They are deep gnomes, and bear no other name.

Finally, I'd like to see a bit more from point #2 in your cleric statements. It's clear that Weston worships Beryl, but how does he intend to show his faith?

Once these points are addressed (which shouldn't take long), Weston looks ready to go.

Thanks!

Hi Darkstorme!

Thanks for the feedback! I will update the thread to rename svirfneblin to deep gnome, I was only about 90% sure we couldn't still use it and I didn't want to keep repeating deep gnome along the way. But! I will fix it to reflect deep gnomes.

Concerning his age, that completely slipped by me! (surprise surprise ) I will update the bio to reflect something to the effect of Jacob being a struggling farmer that had giving up hope in the sun and his once fertile land desperate to find food for him and his family etc etc.. ( you get the idea)

Cleric statement number 2!

Hope this will clarify all of your points. If not I will be glad discuss it more with you.

Looks good.

Your character has been approved.

Server address is west.layonara.com
Password is layoplayer

Some final notes on character creation:
  • Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
  • Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
  • Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
  • Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.

Have fun!
