Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.

| New Character Submission - Torbin Ironsmith Character: Torbin Ironsmith
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Class: Fighter
Race: Human
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Biography:
THe dark times were hard on Torbin's family. Torbin's father had to take a job with the town watch to make ends meet and Torbin wasn't allowed out of the house. After the dark times Torbin spent most of his life on the road. His father was a traveling smith doing contract work for armories all over the continent. His mother became a seamstress and would mend clothing for whom ever her husband was contracted to at the time. They made a good living and Torbins father taught him how to forge weapons and armor. He would also spar with Torbin, handing down what he learned as a watchman. Torbin took to his lessons well and really enjoys manual labor. When Torbin's father would take a job they would stay at the local inn. This is where he learned most of his life lessons and his social skills. Every day new people would be coming and going: soldiers, prostitutes, merchants, magicians, nobles, ect. He wanted to here everyones stories, the ones he liked best were from adventurers and mercinaries. Tales of valor and contests of brute str. He is always quick to make friends and quicker to defend one. He loves to drink and to brawl. It's not uncommon to see him fist fighting some one and then five minutes later see them at the bar drinking and laughing together comparing black eyes.
When Torbin's parents decided to settle down and retire Torbin quickly became bored and decided to travel. Taking what little he owns he has headed out into the world. looking for new friends and new adventures.
Torbin is 6ft 4in
He has blonde hair and brown eyes
He has a large build due to years of smithing
He is loud and boisterous, he has little respect for athority but, he will obey the law as long as he agrees with it.
He loves a good fight (not that he enjoys hurting people/things, he just likes the adrenilin rush and the competition.)
He will never pick a fight with some one weaker than himself.
He will defend some one who he feels can't defend themselves or is at a disadvantage.
His main motivation for adventuring is to combat boredom.

| Re: New Character Submission - Torbin Ironsmith Hi there!
This is good work, and we don't need to see too much more before approval. Just a few niggling details I'd like to see resolved, and we should have you in-game in no time.
First, I'd like to see something, just a little bit, pertaining to his training with arms and armour. He learned to forge them (thus great physical strength) and he clearly enjoys a good bar fight, but it takes some practice to actually wield a sword/wear armour.
Second, from 1402 to 1420, the world was shrouded in soot and dust from the wholesale destruction of a mountain range. During this period, Layonara suffered a minor ice age, complete with crops dying, famine, population decreases, and major economic recession. It's currently 1430, so Torbin would have been 9 when the sun returned to the world. Before that point, though, traveling craftsmen of whatever ilk would've found it hard to eke out a living. Prosperity more or less returned when the sun did, but I would like to see that hardship reflected, even if only in passing.
Once those two points are addressed, Torbin ought to be good to go. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks!

| Re: New Character Submission - Torbin Ironsmith Looks good.
If I might make one suggestion (not for the bio, but for character background when you're RPing in-game), it would be to determine where the Ironsmith family traveled. Alindor and Mistone would be the two favourites (being the least dangerous on which to travel), the latter being the continent on which all PCs start.
That being said, another swordarm takes up the adventuring life in Layonara... Your character has been approved.

Some final notes on character creation:
- Please note that racial adjustments for players with subraces are skin based and thus get applied after getting in game.
- Only two ability scores can be less than 10 and only one can be less than 8 after racial adjustments
- Brownies, when selecting a head, the head you choose on the halfling selection will correspond to that numbered head for elves (for example, clicking right 6 times on the head selection during character creation will take the 6th head when clicking right on the elf creation)
- Half-giants and ogres, please ask for a GM (type /dm Anyone here?) if you would like to change to a custom skin.
Have fun!
